The importance of competency based learning cannot be ignored, considering the role it plays for effective learning and development of skills necessary for successful performance in a job. This paper attempts to review some conceptual issues on competency base learning, such as competency assessment and stages of its implementation. The paper further explained the applicability of the competency based learning in Nigerias colleges. The paper concludes by offering some recommendations, such as provision of legislative frame work for competency based learning to have the legal backing it deserves and equally to redefined institutional frame work in order to accommodate the system.

The research aimed to apply batik motifs to strengthen the differentiation of characters in the form of adventure games that could be an interesting and effective learning medium for introducing music theory. In order to work towards achieving its objective, developing interest in music theory by using games and animations specifically to approach more people and make this project sustainable, these games were supposed to be aimed into intellectual property. Therefore to be able to make it competitive, strong differentiation was needed as so many IP characters emerged as competitors. One of the strengths that could be added to these characters was by applying local content. It was a strong differentiator and could be developed with a deeper philosophy so that it had a wealth that could be developed more widely in the future, which in this case was using batik. To achieve goal, the research used the design thinking method and qualitative methodology to collect data. The researchers collected data through the process of document research, an observation about the implementation of batik patterns in character design for animation. The result is the characters’ designs of a game to teach music theory using batik pattern application. In conclusion, the batik pattern has the potential to strengthen differences in character design.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to increase awareness of how organizations can better recruit and hire Workplace Educators to increase organizational effectiveness through heighten learning and development programs. As a Doctor of Education in the field of organizational leadership, I have witness the task of workplace learning and development relegated to inarticulate and inauthentic trainers who lack the skills-set to provide effective organizational strategy needed in the workplace. The paper gives insight on identifying the less qualified and hiring the better qualified. Design/methodology/approach – The approach to this paper was one of gathering information from the professional experience of the author, literature written on organizational behavior and workplace learning and development. This paper was designed to review the history and examine the current state of learning and development in the workplace. Findings – The findings from the literature review gives creditability to the author’s view that it is time for organizations to create more effective learning environments that starts with recruiting and hiring the most effective Workplace Educators, organizations should separate learning and development from human resources and Workplace Educators should be given a sit at the executive table. Originality/value – This paper provides information for organizations and human resource departments to enhance their knowledge of how they are choosing the people to educate their workplace in the study organizational behavior and learning and development. The focus of the paper is to review the history and build more appreciation and respect for the study of organizational behavior and workplace learning and development.

AbstractIn recent years, transformation in care delivery towards cross-sector models has occurred with the aim of providing safe, efficient care for older people with complex needs, including those living in care homes. Effective workforce competency development and assessment across sectors is integral to these models. However, there is much evidence to suggest a distinct lack of cross-sector alignment with regard to competency development and assessment, which could lead to variations in practice and affect outcomes for older people. This qualitative study explored the barriers and facilitators to cross-sector workforce competency assessment in the care of older people residing in care homes. Twenty nine staff with responsibility for staff learning and development participated. Data were analysed using Braun and Clarke’s (2006) six phase thematic analysis approach. Findings indicate that a significant challenge to the development of a competent workforce is evidencing competency, due to difficulties in finding appropriate assessors and inconsistencies in the assessment process. Findings also indicate potential solutions including: a system-wide, standardised framework and strategy for assessment of competence; policy for the ‘sign-off’ of competencies that is recognised across organisational boundaries; and adopting practice-based approaches to competence development and assessment.

The article is dedicated to the theoretical analysis of pedagogical conditions of the formation of future psychologists’ readiness to work with the adolescents prone to deviant behaviour. The content of the problem in the scientific literature is analyzed, the main pedagogical conditions of the formation of the future psychologists’ readiness to work with deviant adolescents are determined. It is revealed that in the scientific literature the generalization concerning pedagogical conditions of formation of future psychologists’ readiness to professional activity is presented, among which single out forms and methods of the organization of the educational environment in an educational institution, interaction between psychology students and lecturers, students’ inclusion in solving problems of professional direction and implementation of a creative approach in teaching. Looking at the readiness of the future psychologists to work with the adolescents prone to deviant behaviour as the systemic formation that includes cognitive, motivational-value, creative-practical and regulative components, we consider that the development of these components of readiness depends on the pedagogical conditions implemented in the professional training process.In the process of scientific search, we used the following methods of research: analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalization, systematization, specification.The pedagogical conditions of formation of future psychologists’ readiness to work with adolescents prone to deviant behaviour are generalized as a set of pedagogical measures, requirements, external influences which provide construction of educational space, effective course of educational processes and allow to form readiness of the specified quality in future graduates.Pedagogical conditions that will contribute to the formation of the future psychologists’ readiness of this quality are highlighted, in particular: the focus of the educational environment on quality theoretical training of future psychologists to work with adolescents prone to deviant behaviour; implementation of practice-oriented, acmeological and competency-based approach in the training of future psychologists; reflective attitude of psychology students to education in the chosen field of study; use of innovative and problem-searching teaching methods that will contribute to the formation of future psychologists’ cognitive activity.Key words: adolescents, deviant behaviour, future psychologists, adolescents prone to deviant behaviour, future psychologists’ readiness, formation of future psychologists’ readiness to work with adolescents prone to deviant behaviour, pedagogical conditions of the formation of future psychologists’ readiness to work with adolescents prone to deviant behaviour. Стаття присвячена теоретичному аналізу педагогічних умов формування готовності майбутніх психологів до роботи з підлітками, схильними до девіантної поведінки. Проаналізовано зміст проблеми у науковій літературі, визначено основні педагогічні умови формування готовності майбутніх психологів до роботи з підлітками-девіантами. Виявлено, що в науковій літературі представлено узагальнення стосовно педагогічних умов формування готовності майбутніх психологів до професійної діяльності, серед яких виділяють форми і методи організації освітнього середовища в закладі освіти, взаємодію між студентами-психологами та викладачами, включення студентів до розв’язання проблемних завдань професійного спрямування та реалізації творчого підходу у навчанні.У процесі наукового пошуку нами використовувалися такі методи, як: аналіз та синтез, порівняння, класифікація, узагальнення, конкретизація.Констатовано, що розвиток складників готовності майбутніх психологів до роботи з підлітками, схильними до девіантної поведінки, залежить від педагогічних умов, які реалізовуються в процесі про-фесійної підготовки.Узагальнено, що педагогічні умови формування готовності майбутніх психологів до роботи з під-літками, схильними до девіантної поведінки, є тими педагогічними заходами, вимогами, зовнішніми впливами, які забезпечують конструювання освітнього простору, ефективний перебіг освітніх процесів та дозволяють формувати у майбутніх випускників готовність зазначеної якості.Виділено педагогічні умови, які сприятимуть формуванню готовності майбутніх психологів до роботи з підлітками-девіантами, зокрема: спрямованість освітнього середовища на якісну теоретичну підготовку майбутніх психологів до роботи з підлітками, схильними до девіантної поведінки; реалізація практико-орієнтованого, акмеологічного та компетентнісного підходу у професійній підготовці майбутніх психологів; рефлексивне ставлення студентів-психологів до здобуття освіти за вибраним фахом; використання інноваційних та проблемно-пошукових методів навчання, які сприятимуть фор-муванню пізнавальної активності майбутніх психологів.Ключові слова: підлітки, девіантна поведінка, майбутні психологи, схильні до девіантної поведінки підлітки, готовність майбутніх психологів, формування готовності майбутніх психологів до роботи з підлітками, схильними до девіантної поведінки, педагогічні умови формування готовності майбутніх психологів до роботи з підлітками, схильними до девіантної поведінки.

Competency-based Assessment (CBA) is the measurement of student's competency against a standard of performance. It is a process of collecting evidences to analyze student's progress and achievement. In higher education, Competency-based Assessment puts the focus on learning outcomes to constantly improve academic programs and meet labor market demands. As of to date, competencies are described using natural language but rarely used in e-learning systems, and the common sense idea is that: the way competency is defined shapes the way it is conceptualized, implemented and assessed. The main objective of this chapter is to introduce and discuss Competency-based Assessment from a methodological and technical perspectives. More specifically, the objective is to highlight ongoing issues regarding competency assessment in higher education in the 21st century, to emphasis the benefits of its implementation and finally to discuss some competency modeling and assessment techniques.

Human resource development (HRD) is no longer expected to be the primary agency for promoting learning and development among employees. Today, HRD is diffused and integrated into a broad range of leadership and supervisory roles. As more responsibility for learning and development is assumed by others, what is the role of HRD? Although HRD has largely adapted to sharing more of its traditional responsibility for learning and development, the field has also encountered challenges and criticisms. We juxtapose recent adaptations and advances in HRD with perspectives on the dilemmas, challenges, and criticisms of HRD as seen by those outside the field of HRD. Grounded in a comprehensive review of recent literature, the authors seek to provide a balanced perspective on HRD’s strengths and weaknesses and to conceptualize a new perspective on HRD and its transformation for the future.

Abstract Background Despite the movement toward competency-based assessment by accrediting bodies in recent years, there is no consensus on how to best assess medical competence. Direct observation is a useful tool. At the same time, a comprehensive assessment system based on direct observation has been difficult to develop. Intervention We developed a system that translates data obtained from checklists of observed behaviors completed during educational activities, including direct observation of clinical care, into a graphic tool (the “radar graph”) usable for both formative and summative assessment. Using unique, observable behaviors to evaluate levels of competency on the Dreyfus scale, we assessed resident performance in 6 learning sites within our residency. Data are represented on a radar graph, which residents and faculty used to recognize both strengths and areas for growth to guide educational planning for the individual learner. Results Initial data show that the radar graphs have construct validity because the development process accurately reflects the desired construct, assessors were adequately trained, and the radar graphs demonstrated resident growth over time. A form completion rate of 90% for >1500 disseminated assessments suggests the feasibility of our process. Conclusions The radar graph is a promising tool for use in resident feedback and competency assessment. Further research is needed to determine the full utility of the radar graphs, including a better understanding of the tool's reliability and construct validity.
