An experimental investigation was performed to evaluate the properties of cement-bonded particleboard made from Sesendok wood. The target board density was set at a standard 1200 kg m". The effect offarticle size, wood to cement ratio and the addition ofsodium silicate and aluminium silicate on the wood cement board properties has been evaluated. A change ofparticle size from 1.0 mm to 2.0 mm has a significant effect on the mechanical properties, however the physical properties deteriorate. Increasing the wood to cement ratio from 1:2.25 to 1:3 decreases the modulus ofrupture (MOR) by 11% and the addition ofsodium silicate improves valuesfurther by about 28% compared to the addition ofaluminum silicate. The modulus ofelasticity (MOE) in general increases with increasing cement content, but is not significantly affected by the addition ofsodium silicate or aluminium silicate, although the addition of their mixture (sodium silicate andaluminium silicate) consistentlyyields greater MOE values. Water absorption and thickness swelling is significantly affected by the inclusion ofadditives and better values are attained using higher wood to cement ratios.

Concrete plays an important role in every construction. This paper is an experimental investigation to study the mechanical properties of the concrete with partial replacement of cement by dolomite powder and fine aggregate by copper slag. So, in this investigation, by usage of Dolomite powder in concrete on one side improves density and other side improves strength and hardness. Copper slag also increases density of concrete and toughness of concrete. The cement content replaced with dolomite and fine aggregate replaced with copper slag from 5% to 25% at regular intervals of 5%. In the designed mix proportion of M30 grade concrete is 1:2.17:2.95. The Superplasticizer Master Rheobuild 920SH of 0.5% dosage used as chemical admixture is added to the concrete to maintain 0.45 the water-cement ratio. The concrete cubes, cylinders were casted. The different mechanical properties like compressive strength, split tensile strength, flexural strength were tested after 3 days, 7 days and 28 days of curing from 5 to 25% at regular intervals of 5% replacement of cement with dolomite powder and 10% to 50% at regular intervals of 10% replacement of fine aggregate with copper slag.

Based on the generalization and analysis of laboratory experimental results on mix ratio, the effects of various factors such as cement content, water-cement ratio, curing time, curing conditions and types of cement on the mechanical properties of unconfined compressive strength of cement soil are presented. Results show that the unconfined compressive strength of cement soil increases with the growing curing time, and it is greatly affected by the cement content, water-cement ratio, cement types and curing time, while the effect of curing conditions is weak with a cement content of more than 10%. Moreover, the stress-strain of the cement soil responds with the cement content and curing time, increasing curing time and cement content makes the cement soil to be harder and brittle, and leads to a larger Young's modulus.

This study considered the production of composite ceiling boards from both agricultural and industrial wastes. Boards with different blending proportions by weight of cement, corncob and sawdust (Cem:Ccb:Swd) were produced and tested. Physical and mechanical tests such as Water Absorption (WA), Thickness Swelling (TS), Modulus of Elasticity (MOE) and Modulus of Rupture (MOR) were carried out on the products. The findings revealed that the board with Cem:Ccb:Swd blending proportion 50:10:40 gave the highest values of MOE and MOR and also had the lowest values of WA and TS. The MOE and MOR values of 3.432 are both higher than the minimum values of 550 N/mm2 and 3 N/mm2 specified for MOE and MOR respectively by the American National Standard Institute, for general-use particle boards. The cement content is inversely proportional to the physical properties and directly proportional to the mechanical properties.

The article presents the methods and the results of the experimental investigation of the additive influence of shungite nanopowder when mixed in the glue for three-ply particle board. The hypothesis of shungite nanopowder influence on physical-mechanical properties, water absorption and thickness swelling of wood particle board was formulated. The results of experimental investigations proved that the optimum shungite nanopowder quantity in glue solution makes up about 10 % of absolutely dry resin mass. Wooden particles of aspen and coniferous species, as well as glue solution based on carbamide-formaldehyde resin, were used in boards manufacturing. The samples were tested in order to determine physical-mechanical properties. It was found out that the 10 % shungite nanopowder additive increases the breaking point of three-ply particle board under bending strength by 18.3-25.7 %, the breaking point of three-ply particle board under tension perpendicular to the face of board by 7.5-11.7 %. As the result of experimental investigation it was found out that the 10 % shungite nanopowder when mixed in the glue decreases water thickness swelling of three-ply particle board up to 14.2 % and water absorption by 10.6-20.1 %. The shungite nanopowder powder contained particles of 50...100 nm in size and specific surface of 120 m2/g. In the course of the experiment three-ply particle boards were used with the thickness of 15.6 mm.

The experimental investigation on alternate concrete from aged volcanic ash or hydrated aluminium silicate was done by partially replacing bentonite with OPC. Bentonites consist of the fundamental elements of cement like silica, magnesium and calcium. The total assets of bentonite in the country are about 531 million tons bulk of the resource in Tamil Nadu. The partial replacement of bentonite with cement leads to reduction of cement content in concrete mix and furthermore decreases the transfer and contamination issues. Cylinders and cubes were casted and tested for the 7th, 14th and 28th days respectively.10, 20, 30, 40 and 50% replacement of bentonite with cement are done. Slump test are also done to study the workability characteristics of replacement concrete according to Indian standards. Finally the estimation was computed for all the partial replacement of concrete samples of bentonite according to percentage of mix.

Cement bonded particleboards were manufactured form grapevine stalk particles. The physical and mechanical properties of the boards were assessed. Results revealed that the mixture of grapevine-cement for either treatment of particles, was graded as “low inhibition” when CaCl2 was incorporated, as determined by the hydration tests. Three factors namely grapevine-cement ratio, water-cement ratio and particle size were applied in this study for the board manufacturing. Increase in grapevine-cement ratio caused decrease in Modulus of rupture (MOR), Modulus of elasticity (MOE), Internal bond (IB), thermal conductivity and increase in Thickness swelling (TS). Increase in water-cement ratio caused decrease in MOR, MOE, IB, TS and thermal conductivity. The particle size resulted in little change in all, but TS. The MOR, MOE, IB of the boards were significantly affected by grapevine-cement and water-cement ratios except for TS. Only the effect of particle size on thermal conductivity is significant at 0.05 level significance.

Oriented strand board (OSB) is generally used for sheathing in residential walls, floors, and roofs. Because of its low pricing and utilisation of tiny diameter logs from fast-growing trees and thinning logs as raw materials, OSB is anticipated to gain popularity. In chapter, board properties of OSB using smaller strand size of Leucaena leucocephala as core layer had been studied. Small strand size of S3 (length = 75 mm, width = 3.2 to 6.3 mm) was located in the middle layer of the board while bigger strand sizes of S1 (length = 75 mm, width = 12.7 to 19.0 mm) and S2 (length = 75 mm, width = 6.3 to 12.7 mm) were located at the face and back layers. Utilization of smaller strands (S3) in the middle layers may yield boards that have better physical and mechanical properties. Except for MOR in the minor axis, board density and resin content were shown to have a substantial impact on physical and mechanical properties. Except for MOR in the major axis, strand size had little affected on physical and mechanical properties. The effects of board density on mechanical properties were discovered to affect significantly different. With a positive correlation, board density had a significant effect on thickness swelling. Between S1+S3 and S2+S3 strand size, there is no significant effect on bending properties, internal bond strength and thickness swelling. The effect of resin content on bending properties revealed a significant difference of MOR in major axis, as well as MOE values in both major and minor axes. Even when the resin content was as low as 5%, all treatments of OSB passed the general requirement of general purpose OSB.
