This study aims to make a synthetic theoretical presentation of the main challenges currently noticeable in the evolution of the mass media and social media in the context of the accelerated development of new technologies. It is a slow, but decided, visible change, one that profoundly affects human society. In this context we put forward the use of the post-media concept, which defines the transition from classical to new (digital) media, assimilating both the facilities of rapid communication and linking, as well as the tensions arising as a result of the dangers generated and the pressures exerted by various changes. The analysis covers the main types of convergence in communication, the integration of new technologies and equipment, the generalization of interconnection, the extension and diversification of handling arrangements, and the need to rewrite ethical and professional codes for the use of those working on digital platforms.

This article applies and extends the concept of social media logic to assess the politics of immersive storytelling on digital platforms. These politics are considered in the light of what has been identified as mass media logic, which argues that mass media in the 20th century gained power by developing a commanding discourse that guides the organization of the public sphere. The shift to social media logic in the 21st century, with its grounding principles of programmability, popularity, connectivity, and datafication, influenced a new discourse on the logics of digital ecosystems. Digital platforms such as Facebook are offering all-surrounding mediated environments to communicate in Virtual Reality (‘Facebook Spaces') as well as immersive narratives such as Mr. Robot VR. This article provides an understanding of the politics of immersive storytelling and of its underlying principles of programmability, user experience, popularity, and platform sociality, which define immersive technologies in the 21st century.

This journal aims to understand the concept of public space if used to see Islamic preaching through social media, especially in Indonesia. By using qualitative methods, this research describes many characteristics of pulik space, media and its relation to Islamic da'wah. Based on the discussions contained in this study explained that at first the understanding of public space changed and developed in every era influenced by the conditions that occurred at that time. In the beginning, public space was only understood as a space or a place to be targeted for certain circles but as it develops, public space becomes a place for everyone who is present in the space is considered the same without distinguishing any background. This means that public spaces are considered as places or spaces where individuals can be present and free to express their opinions, dialogue and debate critically and rationally over the issues faced together without feeling threat or pressure and domination from any party. By going through public space it will produce a common understanding. There are various media that can be used in public spaces, both open space media, mass media to social media. In the context of da'wah, the concept of public space can be an inspiration to develop a model of da'wah amidst the opportunities and challenges faced in the development of social media, namely making the model of da'wah more equal between mad'u and da'i. This da'wah model can be done through several steps, first, providing dialogue and debate space through digital platforms. Second, this forum will discuss about certain topics. Third, open to all parties, both Muslims and non-Muslims and da'i and mad'u present with the same and equal space and portion in terms of expressing opinions. Fourth, mad'u can express his doubts about Islam. Fifth, da'i as a facilitator can also convey his perspective and make clarifications related to misperceptions by mad'u on Islam.

<p>Tweet Carefully, Museums presents an in-depth case study of audiences and a museum using social media in the current Web 2.0 age. It explores online protest and controversy over an event held at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA) in 2015. This dissertation addresses a current gap in the literature centred on public use of social media as a platform to engage in museum-centred debate and discussion. At the moment, literature discussing new technologies in museums focuses heavily on an institution-to-audiences model. While this is indeed useful information, there is another aspect of digital media that has been largely neglected. In their case study, Gronemann et al. observed that overall, museums distanced themselves from discursive co-construction in their Facebook posts. The lack of engagement with audience can have adverse effects as social media grows in its popularity to mobilise the public in the name of social justice. “Western” museums, many of which have a history of fostering colonial narratives, can also be perceived as authoritative institutions. Museums need to engage more conscientiously with their online audiences. Unconsidered or insensitive engagement over social media may have adverse effects on institutions.  Kimono Wednesdays was an event where the public was invited to try on kimono in Gallery 255 at the MFA. The MFA advertised the event on a few social media platforms. On Facebook, the advertisement drew the harshest criticisms from a section of the Asian-American community. The sensational attention on Facebook grew quickly into physical protest inside Gallery 255. This case study analyses a sample of the dialogic posts, comments, and replies left on Facebook during the protests. It also analyses a symposium organised by the MFA, Kimono Wednesdays: A Conversation, where a panel made up of academics, museum staff, and a protester discussed the various concepts and perceptions of the museum’s controversial advertising and event.  This case study demonstrates that social media is a double-edged sword for museums, as it is a useful tool, but presents uncomfortable challenges. The key findings from this study show how content on the internet can be misinterpreted and how implicit bias can occur from any institution. As museums embrace Web 2.0 applications, they too must become more aware of their online presence and set in place methods of dialogic co-construction so as to better understand and communicate with the diversifying cultures that surround them.</p>

The propaganda messages are spread at the lightning speed, from one end of the globe to another instantly, and impacts of the outcomes shake the core of humanity from psychological, political, and socioeconomic aspects as well. Through available literature, this chapter examines the impacts of digital media to peace and conflict resolution, and investigates the psychosocial aspects and modules or hypotheses of media and paths to terrorism behavior as well. Hypotheses suggest a strong link leading to association between digital media and pathways to terrorism and associated psychological impacts.

There is a growing interest in using social media and digital platforms as allies to strengthen social support among the aged. Drawing on ethnographic interviews and observations of 21 people in their 80s, the article foregrounds the multiple and intersecting temporalities of informal mediated care practices in later life through an exploration of the wide range of infrastructures on which they rely, from social media platforms to housing and urban infrastructure. We identify four temporalities of mediated informal care to assert the need to problematize the future-oriented temporalities of new caring media. The article paves the way to consider infrastructures of informal care as making time in multiple forms, irrespective of their newness or oldness, or the futures that every new piece of technology and service may potentially bring to our present.

We have identities and we can communicate online on the internet and in social networks. The question is how we can define and manage social roles/online representations on digital platforms and in social media? “Digital identity” is in the focus in this exploratory phase of our research the aim of which has been to map how identity refers to a driver in a digital setting with digital footprints, visibility or nonvisibility, professionalism and privacy in online publicity. Our empirical research has been trying to explore this phenomenon of the digital media for online personal strategy with segmentation. The first exploratory phase focused on the students’ segment prior to initial employment. We were wondering which points of decision were relevant in digital identity strategy for them and how they would replace their strategy consciously prior to employment. We had a qualitative research with semi-structured interviews. Our results show that digital identity phenomena define social roles/online strategies and representations on digital platforms and in social media. Members of the research segment have some strategies to manage their digital footprints. They would like to change their profile from “student” to that of a “professional” assuming less activity in digital context.

The internet meme is a recent phenomenon in the mass media industry, but its etymological route can be traced back over 4 decades, when evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins decided to coin a “monosyllable that sounds a bit like ‘gene’”. Memes carry the prolific characteristics of a parasite, and can be as common as a catchphrase. This aspect of memes has revolutionized the way content is consumed on digital platforms, and therefore the advertising of content on such platforms This research examined how recognizability, humour and shareability each impact meme virality. This research found positive correlations between recognizability and virality, humour and virality; and shareability and virality.
