One of the literacy movements that is currently developing is the proliferation of various communities Taman Bacaan Masyarakat (TBM) which was established by the community to provide access to information to the public in order to realize lifelong learning. Sudut Baca Soreang (SBS) as a TBM by relying on a variety of community is very active in making various activities literacy movements. This study aims to create a model of literacy movement activities undertaken by SBS with the end result was the model of a community -based literacy movement activities so that it can be one model for other TBM in making various activities literacy movements. The research method used in this study is a qualitative research using case study approach. The results showed that the shape of the literacy movement activities SBS driven by volunteers as well as spearhead in carrying out various activities that have been prepared weekly/monthly/yearly with one of the volunteers as person in charge. All activities are always evaluated regularly. This model can move literacy activities, promotional activities and drives the field of literacy advocacy activities. The manager of SBS (founders, trustees and volunteers) to make a wide range of activities aimed at local communities, which involves internal SBS as well as external parties SBS from local communities, students and community leaders and other strategic partners as a driver of literacy programming that has been designed by the manager of SBS, All activities that have been implemented are supported by promotional efforts through social media such as facebook as a primary medium.Salah satu gerakan literasi yang saat ini berkembang adalah menjamurnya berbagai komunitas Taman Bacaan Masyarakat (TBM) yang didirikan oleh masyarakat untuk memberikan akses informasi kepada masyarakat guna mewujudkan pembelajaran sepanjang hayat. Sudut Baca Soreang (SBS) sebagai sebuah TBM dengan mengandalkan berbagai komunitas masyarakat sangat aktif dalam membuat berbagai kegiatan gerakan literasi. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk membuat model aktivitas gerakan literasi yang dilakukan oleh SBS dengan hasil akhirnya adalah adanya model aktivitas gerakan literasi berbasis komunitas sehingga dapat menjadi salah satu percontohan bagi TBM lainnya dalam membuat berbagai kegiatan gerakan literasi. Metode penelitian yang akan digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bentuk aktivitas gerakan literasi SBS dimotori oleh relawan serta menjadi ujung tombak dalam melaksanakan berbagai kegiatan yang telah disusun setiap minggu/bulan/tahunan dengan salah seorang sukarelawan sebagai penanggungjawabnya. Seluruh aktivitas tersebut selalu dilakukan evaluasi secara rutin dan dilakukan evaluasi tahunan pula. Model ini dapat menggerakkan aktivitas literasi, promosi kegiatan dan menjadi penggerak kegiatan advokasi bidang literasi. Para pengelola SBS (pendiri, pengurus dan relawan) membuat berbagai aktivitas yang ditujukan untuk masyarakat sekitar yang melibatkan pihak internal SBS maupun pihak ekternal SBS mulai dari masyarakat sekitar, pelajar ataupun tokoh masyarakat dan mitra strategis lainnya sebagai penggerak kegiatan literasi yang telah dirancang oleh pengelola SBS. Seluruh aktivitas yang telah dilaksanakan didukung oleh upaya promosi melalui media sosial berupa facebook sebagai media utama.

<p>This study is to investigate the structure of distribution channels for community-based tourism (CBT) in Banteay Chhmar commune. It explores the factors influencing the distribution channel structure and then examines and discusses the implications of these factors as a means to help improve CBT sales. This study takes both the demand and supply side perspectives into account in order to understand the issues being investigated more comprehensively. Taking a case study approach, this study is based on in-depth interviews with the community and other relevant key channel members, and a survey is employed to collect information from visitors to the community.   The examination of the distribution channel structure for CBT reveals considerable channel diversity. The Banteay Chhmar community is found to utilize a distribution mix which includes a wide range of both direct and indirect channels to enable them to reach broader markets. The findings suggest that the CBT direct distribution channel is relatively short and straightforward while the indirect distribution channels are rather diverse and lengthy. Given the diversity of intermediaries involved, indirect distribution channels for the CBT are complex and often multi-levelled. The majority of visitors who travel to the community purchase their packages through ground travel operators making indirect distribution more prevalent in the CBT distribution structure.   The study also reveals that there is very limited connection among local channel members, such as, accommodation providers, transportation service providers and souvenir shops. This limitation inhibits CBT product sales. Regarding the domestic market, (mainly school groups), the findings show that the direct channel is more prevalent.  There are a number of factors that influence the structure of the distribution channels for CBT. These include commissionable products, product characteristics and market access, information communication and technology, partnership issues and the nature of the operators, capacity issues, and lastly, but most importantly market trends.   This study identifies several implications for the Banteay Chhmar community. However, growth (increased sales volume), looks promising if the community develop sound distribution strategies and implement them accordingly; essentially bringing the community and the market together. In addition, the strategies could also help the community to have more control over the development process and opportunity to minimize adverse impacts.</p>

Perceptions of government and civil servants are shaped by a variety of factors including popular culture. In the public administration literature the significant role that film and other narrative forms have on citizens’ perceptions is duly noted, and there is ample research on politicians and military heroes in film, but a focus on civil servants remains largely elusive. Among the sparse literature centered on civil servants are studies that employ a case study approach or focus on a few films. In contrast, our research employs a large sample of 150 films. These films comprise the top ten box-office grossing films from 1992 through 2006; therefore we examine the films most likely to have been seen by a majority of movie-watching Americans. More than 60 percent of the films in our sample portray government as bad, inefficient, and incompetent. However, the data on more than 300 civil servants yield intriguing findings. Surprising, in light of the negative depiction of government, is the positive depiction of individual civil servants. Half of civil servants were positively portrayed, and only 40 percent were negatively depicted. Americans may view government negatively, but they see in film positive depictions of how individual civil servants can and do make a positive difference.

AbstractThe academic field of Qurʾānic Studies employs a wide range of approaches, each one of which helps to open up a new perspective on the Qurʾānic text. The Holy Book was revealed to guide people; it is thus of relevance to all aspects of people’s lives. This article focuses on the way social actors are represented in one Meccansūra, entitled “Ya-Sin”, and employs a case-study approach to do so. The analysis carried out includes the socio-semantic processes that thesūrauses in order to represent social actors either by behavior (action) or meaning (reflection), and it also analyzes the actors as they are represented in processes such as activation and passivation. The methodology adopted is eclectic and analytic. It is a hybrid of Swales’ move analysis, El-Awa’s identification of shift-markers, and Halliday’s and Van Leeuwen’s theories of social actor representation. This study shows how such an analysis can contribute to understanding the apparently fragmented and non-linear nature of “Ya-Sin”.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui proses pengelolaan dimulai dari pencarian data dan fakta, perencanaan, pengaplikasian program, serta tahap evaluasi. Proses ini merupakan rangkaian dari pengaplikasian konsep four step public relations yang dijalankan oleh humas Kantor Wilayah Kementrian Agama Provinsi Jawa Barat, yaitu tahap fact finding, planning and programming, taking actions and communications, and evaluations. Penelitian ini menggunakan paradigma konstruktivisme , pendekatan kualitatif dan metode studi kasus, mengenai suatu lembaga atau organisasi dengan berupa fenomena yang ada dan terjadi nyata disuatu lembaga atau organisasi. Hasil dari penelitian ini menerangkan bahwa proses pengelolaan website menghasilkan data yang terbagi kedalam dua bagian yaitu fakta primer dan sekunder , setelah data didapatkan selanjutnya perencanaan program aplikasi yang memudahkan publik, lalu pengaplikasian program aplikasi seperti halnya E-MTQ, SIMKAH, dan lain-lain, tahap akhir yaitu evaluasi yang dilakukan seperti Rapat Koordinasi dengan Pemerintah Provinsi dan Kab/Kota. This process is a series of applications of the four-step public relations concept run by the PR of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion of West Java Province. Researchers also use a case study approach that is about an institution or organization in the form of phenomena that exist and occur real in an institution or organization. The results of this study explain that the website management process produces data which is divided into two parts, namely primary and secondary facts, after the data is obtained then the planning of application programs that facilitate the public, then application of application programs such as E-MTQ, SIMKAH, and others, the final stage is an evaluation conducted such as a Coordination Meeting with the Provincial and District / City Governments. In regional Australia there is a growing interest and investment in community capacity building and this is beginning to be formalised in a desire to integrate information communications technology opportunities with other forms of community development. This paper explores the opportunity for greater social integration based on the formation of community-based information communication technology (ICT) driven organizations, using a case study approach.  It is suggested that whether disseminating information, collaborating with other communities, assisting the development of new industries, or simply by sharing the lessons learned along the way, community-based IT can assist and support a community’s economic and social development.  Further, the paper supports the view that, where understanding and developing new forms of information technology through community informatics is accepted as an integral part of such development, communities will not just ‘improve the old’ but will more radically restructure themselves towards a knowledge-based future. The case study that underpins these observations is that of the development of Bay Connect, a community-based Internet development and training project, begun in Hervey Bay with Networking the Nation support, and which is now expanding into the adjacent Maryborough and surrounding Shires. It is also supported by the University of Southern Queensland’s Wide Bay and has an emergent role in supporting new and existing IT businesses, Bay Connect and the Hervey Bay City Council, in the creation and nurturing of an IT skills base within the region.

Abstract This exploratory research examines archival representations of Chinese in America in collections dating from before and during the Chinese Exclusion Era (1860–1943), both in mainstream institutional archives/special collections repositories and in smaller community-based archives. Using critical race theory as a methodological framework and an interpretivist case study approach, this research shows a continued lack for transparency surrounding archival description and archival representations within such collections and an uneven distribution of resources across institutions that collect and preserve materials on early Chinese in America. The report identifies the difficulties of balancing evolving terminologies and changing archival descriptive standards/technology and the need for collaboration among bibliographers, catalogers, archivists, historians and activists in creating archival descriptions in collections about the Chinese in America.

Front-line police operations are deeply entwined with less visible activities &ndash; or practices not commonly identified as policing &ndash; that are carried out by a wide range of participants as strategies of settler-colonial pacification operating through the organizing logics of security and liberal legalism. Using open source texts and records obtained through access to information requests, this article unmaps some of the contemporary strategies employed by Canadian institutions to pacify Indigenous resistance. As a contribution to the body of work seeking to develop the politics of anti-security, the analysis disrupts the binary categories that animate security logic by examining the public order policing approach of the Ontario Provincial Police, the framing of Indigenous resistance as a security threat, and the integral role of Indian Affairs in securing the settler-state.

Extreme summertime heat is a significant public health threat that disproportionately impacts vulnerable urban populations. Research on health impacts of climate change (including increasing intensity, duration, and frequency of hot weather) is sometimes designed and implemented without the involvement of the communities being studied, i.e., “community-placed” not “community-based.” We describe how the Heatwaves, Housing, and Health: Increasing Climate Resiliency in Detroit (HHH) partnership engaged relevant communities by integrating a community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach into an existing, academic-designed research project through a steering committee of community and academic partners. Using a case study approach, we analyze program documentation, partnership evaluation questionnaires, and HHH steering committee meeting notes. We describe the CBPR process by which we successfully collected research data in Detroit during summer 2016, engaged in collaborative analysis of data, and shared results with Detroit residents. Evaluations of the partnership over 2 years show community involvement in research; enhanced capacities; success in securing new grant funding; and ways that CBPR strengthened the validity, relevance, and translation of research. Engaging communities as equal partners using CBPR, even after a study is underway, can strengthen research to understand and address the impacts of extreme heat on health and equity in urban communities.
