The use of educational technology has given rise to the flipped classroom in providing learners with opportunities for active learning and engaging with material inside and outside class. Many previous studies have reported students’ satisfaction in using the flipped classroom for medical, math, and English courses; however, research on using flipped classroom to enhance learners’ intercultural communicative competence (ICC) in the EFL classroom remains insufficient. Therefore, this paper studies a one-semester project in which learners developed their ICC skills through content-based instruction (CBI) in a flipped classroom setting. Twenty-six students in the English department of a private university in Indonesia participated in this study. Using qualitative data analysis, the results show that CBI and flipped classroom improved the participants’ ICC significantly. These results could be valuable for those who wish to conduct similar research.

This descriptive qualitative study focuses on the description of the English consonants systems spoken by speakers of Sundanese backgrounds. This implies that such speakers of particular regional backgrounds speak unique and ideosyncratic native languages. This study will provide a description on the consonants production of English as Foreign Language (EFL) speakers with Sundanese native language in an experimental phonetic method to the students of Islamic Education Department of State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga. In this study, the writer have two objectives: (1) to know the English consonants systems of EFL Sundanese speakers in Islamic Education Department of State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga?  and (2) to know the most frequent errors on pronouncing English consonants produced by EFL Sundanese speakers. From the result of the analysis, it can be seen  that the EFL Sundanese students made 262 errors. It can also been seen that the greatest errors made by the EFL Sundanese students are mispronouncing the minimal pairs of /f/ and /v/, /s/ and /Ө/ and /ð/ and /z/.   The misuse of the sound “p” instead of “b” is common error for Sundanese since there is not distinction between the sound “f”, “v” dan “p” in sundanese phonological system.

Cognitive linguistics has been aimed at revealing the very nature of language for the last several decades. One of the field’s most significant contributions has been the abstraction of the general patterns, or image schemas, underlying grammatical concepts. In this paper, we propose that English grammar-teaching methods adopting image schema theory offer strong benefits for language teaching. As schematic explanations given to learners are more visible and comprehensible than ordinary verbal-based ones, this method offers a clearer and more engaging way to understand the target grammar. We also present data collected from experiments conducted with more than 400 native Japanese-speaking students at one national and one private university that support the effectiveness of this method.

The aim of this study is investigating Turkish EFL learners’ reflections on corpus-based language teaching; what kind of benefits or drawbacks they have experienced during a corpus-based implementation, and what possible suggestions they can make about this particular experience of theirs. The data was collected through minute papers and semi-structured interviews; and content analysis was conducted for data analysis. The results indicated that the participants found the corpus-based instruction very effective especially thanks to the fact that they could interact with real life data directly. They emphasized that interacting with genuine native speaker language made them more motivated and interested in the classroom. In terms of drawbacks, they stated that sometimes the concordances were difficult to understand. Nevertheless, the learners had a positive perception of corpus-based language teaching instruction. Keywords: Corpus-Based Language Teaching; EFL Learners; Reflection

Many problems were found in the field related to lecturers. Lecturers who are supposed to be disciplined come to class to teach, but some come late to class and end class early before the time runs out. There are lecturers who come and fill out the attendance list at the picket and go straight to class to teach, but there are also those who are not in class to teach because they have other purposes. Some senior lecturers ask their juniors or teaching assistants to teach classes. Some lecturers conduct proposal seminars, comprehensive examinations or conduct counseling for students as academic advisers, or provide student thesis guidance. In the learning process, the approach taken to students sometimes does not have a positive effect on them, the learning methods used are also less varied. The purpose of this study was to obtain an overview and contribution given by the work situation and achievement motivation to lecturer performance. This research is descriptive quantitative. The main data were obtained from observations, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. Sources of data in this study are lecturers of the Department of Islamic Religious Education and several students. Researchers performed qualitative data analysis by means of data reduction, categorization, and data verification, so that it can be concluded from the data obtained. Based on the results and discussion, it can be concluded that the work situation and individual achievement motivation affect the work performance of the lecturers of the Islamic Education Department, Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Department, UIN Imam Bonjol Padang. The learning approaches used are expository, inquiry, emotional, PAKEM approach and andragogy. The learning method applied is multi-method in the form of active learning. The media used are lecturers of Islamic Religious Education, both printed media in the form of discussion papers and electronic media.
