The research is the action research aimed at investigating to what extent Reciprocal Teaching overcomes learners’ barriers to effective listening and identifying the situation of teaching and learning when Reciprocal Teaching is employed. Several techniques: interview, observation, and test were applied to obtain the data. The mean score of two raters was calculated to derive the qualitative data; Constant Comparative Method was implemented to analyze the qualitative data. The research result showed Reciprocal Teaching implementation could overcome learners’ barrier to listening including detecting the keywords; recognizing grammar and vocabularies; and discriminating distinctive sounds. The enhancement of Reciprocal Teaching illustrated form mean score of pre-test was 37.4; post-test 1 was 70.4; and post-test 2 was 81. The use of Reciprocal Teaching also optimized the class situation: learners felt encouraged to be receptive to communication in active listening; they got freedom to mind their ideas; and they were more engaged to do mutual task. Considering the finding of the research, the lectures are recommended to use this research for guiding heir learners to solve listening barrier through Reciprocal Teaching.

This study is a classroom action research. The general objective of this study is improving students’ writing skill through outdoor activity. While the specific objective of this research are (1) whether or not outdoor activity can increase the students’ writing content of descriptive text of the second year of Mts Sudirman Kopeng  Getasan. (2) it describe whether the outdoor activity can improve  the students’ writing skill in developing paragraph. This classroom action research was conducted at MTs Sudirman Getasan. The procedure of the research consisted of planning, action, observing, and reflection. The observation during the process of English teaching and learning was helped by the collaborator. In this research,  the writer acted as a practitioner. The test was in the form of pre-test and post –test conducted in cycle 1, cycle 2, and cycle 3. The research result were: (1)  using outdoor activity as a method can improve students’ writing skill, its proved with the student’s improvement score. The mean score of the pre-test of the students was 57 (very poor) and the mean score of the post- test 70 (good). The mean of the post-Test is higher than the mean of the pre-Test ( 64.53>56.56), the mean of the post-test in cycle 2  is higher than mean of cycle 1 (70.59>64.53) and the mean of the post –Test cycle 3 is higher than cycle 2 (74.56>70.59). the proven result of the implementation was 75%. (2) The effectiveness of using outdoor activity in improving students’ writing skill is proved from the t-test and t-table in cycle 1 (9.67>2.042) which the score of t-test was higher than the score of t-table and the result of t-test and t-table in cycle 3 (15.11>2.042) also showed that the score of t-table.

This research investigated whether or not there is the influence of English song towards the student’s pronunciation. This research used a quantitative method. Research design is an experimental class and control class, two classes were selected from eleventh-grade students at SMAN 1 Ciasem Subang. The Quasi-Experimental Research was conducted in four meetings. The data were obtained by observing the teaching and learning process, test, questionnaire, and interviewing the students. The research result of the analysis quantitative and qualitative data were as follows. The analysis of quantitative data, mean score of pre-test in the experimental class was 14.44. While the mean score in the control class was 14.58. Furthermore, the mean score of the post-test in the experimental class was 82.98. While the mean score post-test in the control class was 60.56. Based on the result, the experimental class students’ score on post-test were better in which the mean = 82.89 than their scores on pre-test the mean = 60.56 . in addition, the two-tailed value of p was 0.000 which was lower than 0.05 . in conclusion, the calculation of paired t-test showed that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of experimental group. The analysis of qualitative data show that used English song influence through students’ pronunciation by observing the teaching and learning process, test, questionnaire, and interviewing the students. The students were more confident and were not afraid of making mistakes when pronunciation.

The fact that the students have problems in the three micro-skills of listening namely recognizing the English stress patterns, the reduced forms of words, and words boundaries and that the teachers never teach the students how to listen have made them get low TOEFL scores on listening section. This research aims at: (1) finding out whether optimizing listening skills can improve the students’ TOEFL scores on listening; and (2) describing the class situation during the teaching of toefl listening by optimizing listening skills. This action research is conducted in two cycles each of which is divided into planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. There are two kinds of data. The qualitative data taken from observation, interview, and questionnaire are analyzed by using Constant Comparative Method. The quantitative data taken from the pre-test in the pre-research, post-test in cycle 1, and post-test in cycle 2 are analyzed by using descriptive statistics. The subjects of the research are the STAIN Pekalongan students taking English 3 class, the TOEFL Preparation Class, in the Academic Year 2014/2015. The result of the research shows that: (1) teaching toefl listening section by optimizing listening skills is able to overcome the students’ problems in the three micro-skills of listening and consequently improve the students’ TOEFL scores on listening. Their average scores improve from 101 in the pre-test to 118 in the post-test of cycle 1 and 129 in the post-test of cycle 2; (2) The class situation is attractive and the students are actively involved in the various activities done during the teaching and learning process. In line with the success of optimizing listening skills in teaching TOEFL listening, it is suggested that teachers should examine their students’ listening problems so as to be able to teach them what they need in listening to English.

This study attempts to improve students’ writing achievement in recount text through Think-Pair-Share Strategy. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class VIII-1 SMPN 1 Pematangsiantar. The number of the students was 32 students, consisted of 5 males and twenty seven females. The research was conducted in two cycles and consisted of six meetings. The instruments for collecting data were writing tests as the quantitative data and diary notes, observation sheet, interview sheet and questionnaire sheet as qualitative data. Based on the writing score, students’ scores kept improving in every test. In analyzing the data, the mean of the students’ score for the first test as a pre-test was 57.84, for the second test as a post test I was 73.56, for the third test as a post test II was 77.56. Based on diary notes, observation sheet and questionnaire sheet, it was found that students were actively involved in writing process. The result of the research showed that Think-Pair-Share Strategy can improve students’ achievement in writing recount text.   Keywords: Think Pair Share, Writing, Recount text, Action research

This study attempts to improve students’ vocabulary achievement through Clustering Technique. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class VIII-B SMP Katolik Trisakti 2 Medan that consisted of 32 students. The research was conducted in two cycles and each cycle consisted of three meetings. The instruments for collecting data were vocabulary tests for quantitative data and diary notes, observation sheet and questionnaire sheet for qualitative data. Students’ score kept improving in every test. In the first cycle test, the mean of vocabulary score was 64.68. And in the second cycle test, the mean of vocabulary score was 79.85. Based on diary notes, observation sheet and questionnaire sheet, teaching and learning process had done effectively showed the improvement. Every student was studied actively. And from the research can be concluded that Clustering Technique can improve students’ achievement in vocabulary.

This action research is carried out to (1) identify whether graphic organizers enrich student’s vocabulary mastery; and (2) to describe the classroom situation when graphic organizers are employed in instructional process of vocabulary.The research is conducted in two cycles from March to May 2016/2017 in the eight years of SMP Muhammadiyah Sekampung, East lampung. The procedure of the research consists of identifying the problem, planning the action, implementing the action, observing the action, and reflecting the result of the research. Qualitative data are collected through interview, observation, questionnaire, and research diary. Quantitative data are collected through test. To analyze qualitative data, the researcher used constant comparative method. It consists of four steps: (1) comparing incidents applicable to each category; (2) Integrating categories and their properties; (3) delimiting the theory; (4) Writing the theory. Meanwhile, to analyze quantitative data, the researcher employed descriptive statistic.   The result of the research shows that using graphic organizers can enrich students’ vocabulary mastery and classroom situation. The improvement on students’ vocabulary included; a) the students are able to speak English; b) the students are able to understand the meaning of the text as they have a lot of vocabularies. The improvement of the classroom situation; (a) students come on time in the class (b) students are more motivated to join the class (c) Students pay more attention in the instructional process (d) students’ participation in responding the questions are high.

AbstractThe method used in this research was action research applied in two cycles. This research was conducted to improve the Seventh Graders’ English vocabulary in SMP 1 PSKD, Jakarta. The 24 students of the seventh grade who participated in this study were taught vocabularies by using the TGT technique. The quantitative data, collected using tests, were analyzed by using the independent and paired sample t-test on SPSS version 22 program. The qualitative data, collected using the researchers’ diary notes, questionaire, open ended question sheets, and observation sheets, were analyzed descriptively. The results indicated that the TGT technique improved the participants’ English vocabulary, as shown by the increase of the mean scores of the tests conducted, i.e. the pre-test 55,94 (12,5%) increased to 66,81 (50%) of post-test of cycle I and to 83,23 (87,5%) of the post-test of cycle II. The statistical test also indicated that the use of TGT significantly increased the students’ English vocabulary. Based on the findings, it could be concluded that the use of TGT technique was effective to improve the seventh grade students’ English vocabulary. This study is revealed based on the observation on the tenth grade of SMKN 3 Cimahi.  The subjects of this study consisted of 34 students. The purpose of this study was to improve the students’ reading comprehension using Cooperative Integrated and Reading Composition Method. The research design was Classroom Action Research (CAR) which following Arikunto model. It is used to obtain the results of qualitative data using two cycles described through planning, implementing, observation, and reflection on each cycle. The result of the study showed that there was a development on the students’ reading comprehension. It could be seen from the result of the test. The Minimum Mastery Criterion (KKM) of English lesson was 70 (seventy).  The students mean score in the first test was 50,  in the first post test the mean score was 65, and in the second post test the mean score was 85. In addition there were 3 students (8.8%) who passed KKM on pre test. In the first pretest there were 9 students (29.41%) who passed KKM. In the second pretest there were 31 students (91.18%) who passed KKM. Then, from the result of observation and interview it showed the positive responses from the students. The students can be more active and improve their ideas. This research aimed at finding out whether Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) strategy improves students’ reading comprehension or not. The research was a classroom action research. The data collected through quantitative and qualitative approach. Quantitative data was gained from the result of pre-test and post-test from reading test. Meanwhile, qualitative data was gained from the result of observation sheets toward students’ and teachers’ activity. The instruments used by the researcher were test and observation sheet. The finding of the research showed that the strategy Listen-Read-Discuss improve the students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text. The improvement can be seen from the mean score of students from pre-test, post-test one, and post-test two. The mean score of pre-tests was 64.46 (50%), there were eight students who passed the minimum passing grade, in the post-test one, 75.35 (67%), twelve students passed the minimum passing grade and in the post-test two, 82.14 (89%), twenty-five students passed the minimum passing grade (KKM).
