An experiment was conducted to investigate 50 high school seniors' perceptions of liked and disliked teachers, using a variation of Kelly's Repertory Test. It was predicted that disliked teachers would be differentiated more than liked teachers and that female Ss would differentiate more among disliked teachers than would male students. For the total sample, negatively valued persons were differentiated more than positively valued persons, but there were no significant sex differences with regard to negatively valued persons. Male Ss differentiated all teachers, irrespective of value, significantly more than female Ss did. The significant difference between liked and disliked teachers supports the “vigilance hypothesis” suggested by Miller and Bieri (1965). There was no readily apparent explanation why male Ss were more cognitively complex than female Ss. That male Ss designated more male than female teachers as both liked and disliked was discussed. Further avenues of research were indicated.

Adolescents transitioning to high school may be at greater risk of depression and suicide if they are victims of bullying behavior. This study explored sex differences in bullying victimization (physical, verbal/social, and cyberbullying) and the impact on depressive symptoms and suicidal behaviors in ninth-grade students ( N = 233). Females reported significantly more verbal/social and cyberbullying than male students. There were no significant sex differences in physical bullying; male students who reported physical bullying victimization were more likely to experience depressive symptoms. Verbal/social bullying predicted depressive symptoms in males and females. Females who reported being victims of cyberbullying were more likely to report depressive symptoms, suicide ideation, and suicide attempts. Eighteen students reported suicide attempts, and each also experienced verbal/social bullying. School nurses are positioned to reach out to transitioning students, screen for mental health issues, provide a safe place to talk about bullying experiences, and promote positive mental health.

To analyze the effectiveness of Mennonite religious high schools in transmitting religious values, the Allport-Vernon-Lindzey Study of Values was administered to 124 Canadian high school seniors, 40 from religious Mennonite schools, 56 Mennonites in public schools, and 28 from students at a large public high school. Attending Mennonite private schools made no significant difference in the religious values held by Mennonite high school seniors. Mennonite boys and girls showed significantly higher religious values than a general sample of senior high school boys and girls.

The aim of this study was to investigate the digital game addiction levels of the high school students, according to some variables such as sports participation, gender, place of accommodation and level of income. The sample group comprises 931 high school students (508, %54,6 female and 423, %45,4 male) from several villages, districts and Kutahya city center (a town in the west part of Turkey with the population of 325.000). They participated to the study voluntarily. In addition to personal information from prepared by the researcher, the game addiction scale developed by Lemmens et al. (2009) and adapted to Turkish by Irmak and Erdogan (2015) was used as a data gathering tool. It is a five point Likert type scale and has one factor and seven items. In order to evaluate the results the descriptive statistical methods (percentage (%), frequency (f) and t-test, one-way ANOVA) were used.As a result, the significant difference was determined regarding digital game addiction [t (931)=-3,76; p=0,00]  between the students who participate to the sports activities and who do not. So, the non-participant students found more game addicted. According to the gender, male students were determined more addicted than females [t (931)=9,45; p=0,00]. No significant difference was determined in terms of the place where the students lived (p=0,56, p>0,05). Finally, the significant difference was determined in terms of the income levels, [f (931)=3,07; p=0,01] on behalf of  the students who had good income level. They found more addicted.

The purpose of this study was to investigate emotional awareness among Iranian high school students and to examine possible sex differences in emotional awareness. The participants were 388 gifted and nongifted students. They completed the Levels of Emotional Awareness Scale–A. Analysis showed girls had significantly higher scores than boys in the total sample. The mean score on emotional awareness of gifted girls was significantly lower than that of nongifted girls. Potential implications of these findings are offered.

This research is aimed at identifying the level of resilience of high school students post-disaster in West Sumatera. This research is descriptive quantitative, with the total sample of 1143 students by using simple random sampling technique. The instrument used is TIRI. The data are analyzed descriptively with the analysis of the level of resilience in percentage, using SPSS version 20.00. The Result of the research reveals that the condition of the students’ resilience is high. The result showed that in general male students are at high category and female students are also at high categoryn of resilience, still there are significant differences of the students’ resilience based on gender. The research suggests more efforts are needed to improve the condition of the students’ resilience on certain aspects to be more optimal.

Abstract. The teaching profession faces a general shortage of teachers in most countries, but a lack of male teachers is particularly prevalent. Past research has demonstrated that students' career choices depend in part on a job's assumed gender fit, i.e. whether a profession is perceived as appropriate for one's own gender. This process may be particularly relevant for adolescent boys and clashes with the perception of the teaching profession as a predominantly feminine profession. Therefore, perceived gender fit of the teaching profession was expected to affect high school students' intention to teach, especially for male students. In the present experimental research, we investigated whether a variation of the (perceived) gender fit of the teaching profession has an impact on students' immediate intention to become a teacher. In two experiments ( N = 126 and N = 342), we expected and found that a gender fit framing, which involved either simple reflection on male or female teachers, or on manipulated information about the gender ratio within the teaching profession, increased the intention of male students' to become teachers compared to non-gender fit or neutral framing. In contrast, female students were not affected by the gender fit manipulations. The implications for gender-bias free recruitment of future teachers are discussed.
