The primary objective of the present study was to factor analyze a recently developed mental ability test in order to develop verbal and numerical subtesrs—then to establish the reliability of the subtests (and of the test as a whole) using 97 advanced college students as Ss. Using a varimax rotation, some 34 factors were extracted, the most prominent two factors being verbal and numerical in nature. Based mainly on factor-loadings, two subtests were developed—a 50-item verbal comprehension test and a 30-item numerical ability test. The KR-20 reliability coefficients for the verbal and numerical subtests were .89 and .82 respectively, whereas that for the entire 100-item test was .93.

The construct validity and reliability of the 1987 Perceived Physical Competence Scale of Lintunen were examined to assess the applicability of the instrument for use with adolescents with disabilities. Subjects were 51 girls and 34 boys ( M age = 15.1 yr.) from several schools in central Finland. Principal component factor analysis with varimax rotation yielded the same two factors for adolescents with disabilities as reported for nondisabled adolescents in the related literature. Cronbach alphas for the two factors were .89 and .56. It was concluded that the scale is an appropriate measure for adolescents with disabilities. Statistical analysis indicated no gender differences for adolescents with disabilities. When compared with nondisabled groups in the related literature, these adolescents had perceived fitness similar to nondisabled peers but significantly lower than that of athletes without disabilities.

The aim of the study was to construct a normative instrument for measuring organisational citizenship. Based on studies done on organisational citizenship, a framework for identifying the locus of organisational citizenship was developed, and a questionnaire based on this framework was constructed. A factor analysis of the items of the instrument yielded two factors. These factors were interpreted as situational and dispositional loci of organizational citizenship. The two scales were subjected to item analysis and yielded reliability coefficients of 0,946 and 0,908 respectively. The implications of the findings are discussed. Opsomming Die doel van die studie was om ’n normatiewe meetinstrument te konstrueer om organisasieburgerskap te meet. ’n Raamwerk, gefundeer op navorsing oor organisasieburgerskap, is ontwerp en ’n vraelys gebaseer op dié raamwerk is gekonstrueer. ’n Faktorontleding van die items van die skaal het twee faktore opgelewer. Hierdie faktore is as situasionele en disposisionele lokusse van organisasieburgerskap geïnterpreteer. Die skale is vervolgens aan itemontleding onderwerp en het betroubaarhede van 0,946 en 0,908, onderskeidelik, opgelewer. Die implikasies van die bevindinge word bespreek.

Based on the responses of 118 male and 79 female college students, a factor analysis of the 40 sex-typed items from the Bem Sex-role Inventory and sex of respondent yielded four factors which were almost identical to those reported by Waters, Waters, and Pincus (1977). One of the factors essentially represented the gender of the respondent. A second factor representing an expressive, affective orientation was defined by feminine sex-typed items. The other two factors were primarily defined by masculine sex-typed items. One stressed independence, self-sufficiency, and individuality while the other stressed leadership, aggressiveness, and forcefulness. These latter factors were interpreted in terms of an “agentic” orientation (Bakan, 1966) and an “instrumental” orientation (Parsons & Bales, 1955).

<p class="apa">The purpose of the present study is developing a test to measure the numerical ability for students of education. The sample of the study consisted of (504) students from 8 universities in Jordan. The final draft of the test contains 45 items distributed among 5 dimensions.</p><p class="apa">The results revealed that acceptable psychometric properties of the test; items parameters (difficulty, discrimination) were estimated by item response theory IRT, the reliability of the test was assessed by: Cronbach’s Alpha, average of inter-item correlation, and test information function (IRT), and the validity of the test was assessed by: arbitrator's views, factor analysis, RMSR, and Tanaka Index.</p><p class="apa">The numerical ability test can be used to measure the strength and weaknesses in numerical ability for educational faculty students, and the test can be used to classify students on levels of numerical ability.</p>

Individuality, collectivity and locus of control as micro variables of diversity. The principal aim of the study was to construct an instrument to measure individuality and collectivity as micro variables of diversity in the South African context. The Individuality-collectivity Inventory was applied to 326 university students. A factor analysis on 80 items yielded two factors. These factors were interpreted as collectivity and individuality. The two scales were subjected to an item analysis and yielded reliability coefficients of 0,86 and 0,910. A secondary aim of the study was to determine whether any correlation exists between individuality, collectivity and locus of control. The two sub-scales of the Individuality-collectivity Inventory were correlated with the three sub-scales of the Locus of Control Inventory. Statistically significant positive correlations were found to exist between individuality, internal locus of control and autonomy. The implications of the findings on the management of diversity are discussed. 'n Sekondere doelwit van die studie was om te bepaal of daar 'n verband tussen individualiteit, kollektiwiteit en lokus van beheer bestaan. The authors have investigated a sample of 283 3th and 4th grade students in secondary schools of Zadar where they tested the reliability and factor structure of ROU-questionnairc scale measuring classroom psycho-social study atmosphere. On the basis the obtained reliability coefficients (type Cronbach- alfa) the authors established that all scales included in the questionnaire had a satisfactory reliability. Two factors were extracted from the factor analysis and they were: 1. factor of individualisation and personal development and 2. factor of satisfaction with relationship in the class which gave explanation to 52.17 % of common variance of all the results.

The purpose was to develop a valid and reliable battery of quad rugby skill tests. Participants were 65 adult, male, quad rugby athletes. Content validity was established in two modified Delphi rounds by a panel of international experts. For concurrent validity, Spearman rho correlations between coaches’ rankings of players’ skills and scores ranged from .63 to .98 for the total battery. For construct validity, principal factor analysis with oblique rotation revealed two factors. Intraclass reliability coefficients ranged from .94 to .99. The battery includes five tests: maneuverability with the ball, pass for accuracy, picking, sprinting, and pass for distance.

Factor analysis was performed on the Beck Depression Inventory with a university sample to examine its potential multidimensionality. A principal components analysis with an oblimin and varimax rotation produced a two-factor solution. These factors were labeled Cognitive–Affective and Physiological and accounted for approximately 39% of the common variance. This finding is consistent with multidimensionality of the inventory and with a similar study of college students. The commonalities of the two studies suggest the reliability (internal consistency) of the Cognitive-Affective and Physiological constructs among “minimally” depressed university samples.

This study examined the factor structure and internal consistency reliability of the Reasons for Living Inventory for 275 college students. Principal components factor analysis with varimax rotation extracted five factors, based on the scree test. The derived factors were identical with the inventory's subscales, except for the Fear of Suicide subscale and Social Disapproval subscale items loading on the same factor. Significant gender differences were obtained on the Responsibility to Family, the Fear of Suicide, and the Moral Objections subscales. The pattern of subscale correlations was similar for the subsamples. The coefficients alpha for the subscales ranged from moderate to high.

A sample of 202 Kuwaiti college students (63 men and 139 women; Mage = 21.6 yr., SD = 2.4) responded to the Thalbourne, et al.'s Manic-Depressiveness Scale. In a factor analysis with a varimax rotation, 14 of 18 items had significant loadings (>.3) on the first factor, including 8 items of the original depression scale. 6 items significantly loaded on the second factor, including 3 items of the original mania scale. This did not match the hypothetical structure of the scale.
