Abstract Woodworkers’ exposure to airborne particles is measured with different sampling techniques throughout the world. Due to a great number of exposure data obtained with different samplers, European countries have aimed over the last ten years to find a conversion factor for mass concentrations that would render these measurements comparable. Following the accepted EU standards and regulations, we replaced a 25 mm open-faced (OF) filter holder with an IOM head to determine woodworkers’ exposure to inhalable dust and establish an IOM/OF sampler ratio that might serve as a reliable factor for converting the existing OF data to IOM dust mass concentration in the industrial environment. For this side-by-side sampling we used personal 25 mm OF (N=29) and IOM (N=29) sampling heads over eight working hours. The obtained IOM/OF ratios ranged between 0.7 and 2.3. However, mass concentrations obtained by IOM and OF samplers did not significantly differ. Our findings suggest that there is no need for conversion of the existing OF data for workers exposed to wood dust, provided that dust mass concentrations in the working environment range between 1 mg m-3 and 7 mg m-3. Future side-by-side measurements should also involve environments with low wood dust mass concentrations.

Paper deals with dust mass concentration measurement in working environment. The measurement is focused to respirable dust fraction, which is dangerous for people. Light scattering principle of dust mass concentration measurement is used for this purpose. Also cyclone as mechanical way of separation of respirable fraction can be used for this purpose. Next problem is determination of uncertainty of this measurement.

The reliability of the measurement method in determining the mass concentration of wood dust relates to the sampling time for the detection of wood particles in the ambient air of woodworking places. The aim of this study was to calculate the mass limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), and the minimal sampling time (tLOD and tLOQ) for determination and quantification of samples, based on the hardwood dust mass concentration at various woodworking places in the sawmills, floor production factories, and carpentries. Determination of the mass concentration of respirable, inhalable, and total hardwood dust from ambient air was performed using personal sampling pumps and three types of filter holders: respirable dust cyclone, Institute of Occupational Medicine IOM inhalable dust sampler, and total dust open-faced filter holder. The average limit of detection amounts to 0.052, 0.083, and 0.167 mg for respirable, inhalable, and total hardwood dust, respectively. The minimal detection sampling time for collecting all observed types of dust fractions ranged between 1.12 h and 1.72 h. The minimal quantification time for all collected hardwood dust samples ranged from 3.75 h to 5.51 h. Pearson’s correlation test showed that the reliability of the measurements was affected more by the dustiness of the workspace than the real sampling time.

There are many factors that can lead to internship satisfaction. Working environment is one of the factors that will result to such outcome. However, many organizations discarded the fact of its importance. The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is a significant relationship between working environment and internship satisfaction level as well as to determine whether the dimensions of working environment significantly affect internship satisfaction. The said dimensions are, learning opportunities, supervisory support, career development opportunities, co-workers support, organization satisfaction, working hours and esteem needs. A total of 111 questionnaires were distributed to the respondents and were processed by SPSS program to obtain the result of this study. The results reveal that learning opportunities, career development opportunities, organization satisfaction and esteem needs are factors that contribute to internship satisfaction level. In the other hand, supervisory support, co-workers support and working hours are factors that lead to internship dissatisfaction. The result also shows that organization satisfaction is the strongest factor that affects internship satisfaction while co-workers support is the weakest.

The paper deals with the selected characteristics, such as moisture, average bulk density, and fraction size, of tropical marblewood dust (Marmaroxylon racemosum) that influence its ignition risk. Research was focused on sieve analysis, granulometric analysis, measurement of moisture level in the dust, and determination of the minimum ignition temperatures of airborne tropical dust and dust layers. Samples were prepared using a Makita 9556CR 1400W grinder and K36 sandpaper for the purpose of selecting the percentages of the various fractions (<63, 63, 71, 100, 200, 315, 500 μm). The samples were sized on an automatic vibratory sieve machine Retsch AS 200. More than 65% of the particles were determined to be under 100 μm. The focus was on microfractions of tropical wood dust (particles with a diameter of ≤100 µm) and on the impact assessment of particle size (particle size <100 µm) on the minimum ignition temperatures of airborne tropical dust and dust layers. The minimum ignition temperature of airborne marblewood dust decreased with the particle size to the level of 400 °C (particle size 63 μm).


As an introduction to the study of reactions contingent on ionization in flames, an experimental measurement has been made of the collision frequency of electrons with molecules in coal-gas/air flames, containing added alkali metal salt. This quantity is an important parameter in the expression relating the electron content of a flame with the attenuation of centimetric radio waves by it. This attenuation has been chosen as a convenient method of investigating flame ionization. The form of the results obtained agree well with the predictions of theory, a uniform difference of about 20 % between measured collision frequency and that calculated on a very simple gas kinetic hypothesis being obtained. A suitable conversion factor has been evolved for proceeding from attenuation of 3 cm. waves to electron concentration/cm. 3 .

Indocyanine green (ICG) dye angiography has been used by ophthalmologists for routine examination of the choroidal vasculature in human eyes for more than 20years. In this study, a new approach is developed to extract information from ICG dye angiograms about blood velocity distribution in the choriocapillaris and its feeding blood vessels. ICG dye fluorescence intensity rise and decay curves are constructed for each pixel location in each image of the choriocapillaris in an ICG angiogram. It is shown that at each instant of time the magnitude of the local instantaneous dye velocity in the choriocapillaris is proportional to both the slope of the ICG dye fluorescence intensity curve and the dye concentration. This approach leads to determination of the absolute value of blood velocity in the choriocapillaris, assuming an appropriate scaling, or conversion factor can be determined. It also enables comparison of velocities in different regions of the choriocapillaris, since the conversion factor is independent of the vessel location. The computer algorithm developed in this study can be used in clinical applications for diagnostic purposes and for assessment of the efficacy of laser therapy in human eyes.

Workers of wooden furniture is the workers who are at risk for decreased lung function caused by exposure to wood dust in the working environment. Wood dust will enter the respiratory organs, thereby affecting lung function. Decreased pulmonary function can be seen by the method of Harvard Step Test. This research aims to analyse the relationship between age, working period, nutritional status, smoking habits, long exposure to dust, and use of PPE with lung function in wooden furniture workers in Oesapa Village, Kelapa Lima Sub District, Kupang City. The study was analytic survey with Cross Sectional approach. This research was conducted in the wood furniture industry in Oesapa Vilage, Kelapa Lima District, Kupang City in July 2020. The population in this study was 33 workers of wooden furniture. Data collection is done by questionnaire, weight measurement, height measurement and the Harvard Step Test to determine the level of lung fitness workers. Data analysis technique used is the Chi Square test with level of significance . The results showed that there was a significant relationship between age (0.002), working period (0.023), nutritional status (0.039), and use of PPE (0.016) with lung function in workers of wooden furniture. There is no relationship smoking habits (0.093), long exposureto  dust (0.057) and lung  function in workers of wooden furniture.

A Factory is a manufacturing industry that produces tea drinks in cups. A Factory is also inseparable from problems related to machine/equipment productivity. Based on the results of observations made at A Factory part of the production line that there is often a sudden stop of the production process. The discontinuation will affect the quality of the product expected and the production targets to be achieved. The problem was discussed in this research is how much the productivity level of the filling production department is, how much the production effectiveness, effective working hours, the number of defective products, and machine downtime criteria. The productivity measurement method used is the Objective Matrix (OMAX) method, so the steps of this study refer to OMAX steps, which is the criteria determination/productivity ratio of the production line, the calculation of the productivity ratio value, the calculation of the initial standard score (score 3), The determination of the goal (score 10) and the lowest score (score 0), the determination of weight, the calculation of value/criteria value, the determination of productivity value for each period, determination of index percentage. With the OMAX method, it can be seen that in period 11 (compared to period 10) there was an increase in productivity, this can be seen because the IP value (Index of Performance) which is positive (+) is 27.79 and there is an increase in the value of the calculation at the time of measurement (current) from 383.36 to 300. This increase was due to an increase in the value of all criteria.

Motivation is considered one of the most important prerequisites for the success and effectiveness of the resulting performances. Usually, we meet only with a perspective of employee motivation from inside the company. However, the external environment, i.e. macro-environment, also influences the motivation of employees. We decided to focus on exploring how macroeconomic indicators evolution affects employee motivation. By means of the research conducted in Slovakia during the period from 2008 to 2019 on a sample of more than 30,000 respondents, we define the dependence of selected macroeconomic indicators and employee motivation. The research focuses on the analysis of average annual wage and household debt influence on the most important employees’ motivational factors. Based on our findings, we can state that macroeconomic indicators affect the importance of motivational factors in Slovakia. Especially, the average annual wage strongly influences the six motivational factors (communication at the workplace, duties and type of work, working hours, working environment, superior approach, psychological burden). The results of the research also show that the seven motivational factors (atmosphere at the workplace, good team, communication at the workplace, working hours, working environment, superior approach, psychological burden) strongly depend on the macroeconomic indicator of household debt. Therefore, when creating incentive programs, business managers in Slovakia should take into account not only the effects of the company’s microenvironment on motivation but also the effects of the macro-environment and thus macroeconomic changes in the state. The role of a manager is to keep balance between external environment influence on employee motivation and internal actions. The paper presents inspiring ideas in a field of employee motivation and the influence of external environment on motivation.
