Abstract Since COVID-19 is a global-scale pandemic, it can only be solved on the global level. In this context, intercultural dialogues are of utmost importance. Indeed, different models of traditional ethics might be of assistance in constructing a new, global ethics that could help us confront the present predicament and prepare for other possible global crises that might await us in the future. The explosive, pandemic spread of COVID-19 in 2020 clearly demonstrated that in general, one of the most effective tools for containment of the epidemics is precisely human and interpersonal solidarity, which must also be accompanied by a certain degree of autonomous self-discipline. The present paper follows the presumption that these types of personal and interpersonal attitudes are—inter alia— culturally conditioned and hence influenced by different traditional models of social ethics. In light of the fact that East-Asian or Sinic societies were more successful and effective in the process of containing and eliminating the virus compared to the strategies of the Euro-American regions, I will first question the widespread assumption that this effectiveness is linked to the authoritarian political traditions of the Sinic East and Southeast Asian areas. Then, I will critically introduce the Confucian ethics of relations, which in various ways has influenced the social structures of these regions, and clarify the question of whether and in which way the relics of this ethics had an actual effect on the crisis resolution measurements. The crucial aim of this paper is to contribute to the construction of theoretical groundworks for a new, transculturally grounded global ethics, which is more needed today than ever before.

The city is a place with many social, economic and political reflections. Every concept it reflects has a transformative power within itself. The city, which is an important part of the social structure, is an important place where the Chinese artist Liu Bolin offers a critical approach to many social, ekonomic and political problems at a global level. It reveals this approach as camouflaging in front of spaces and objects through performance and photography. The artist tries to reveal the local and universal concerns he wants to show by hiding. The concept of camouflage, which is a strategy of protection from external threats, shows the threat itself to the audience in Liu Bolin's works. While the concepts of being watched and hiding (camouflage) present two opposing situations, it makes one feel tension. The situation pointed out by the artist, who touches on issues such as environmental pollution, sustainability, human rights and equality that directly affect the future of the world and humanity on a global scale in recent years, is presented directly to the audience. The camouflaged body, which can be seen when carefully looking at the works in the Hiding in the City series, confronts us with the magnitude of danger. One of the most important contemporary issues within the Society of Jesus is the way in which contemporary evangelization impacts social evolution and social structures.  Under the umbrella term of “social justice” the Society is committed to the analysis of and changing of the social and economic structures that impact human lives, so that the values of the Gospel can be actualized within the human family.  Understanding what Aquinas has to say about the issues involved in social justice is important for two reasons.  First, the theological and ethical language of the Society, and the Catholic Church in general, draws deeply from the Thomistic tradition.  Second, there is a vigorous resurgence of attempts to reappropriate Aquinas’ ethical theory according to contemporary sensibilities.  For all those interested in promoting social justice within a Catholic framework it is important to understand how the issues related to social justice relate to Aquinas’ theological project. Although Aquinas does provide a theoretical framework in which the issues of social justice can be addressed, he provides a different rubric.  The contemporary convictions of radical equality and individual rights belong to the Thomistic domain of theoretical reasoning through wisdom.  The critique and evaluation of social structures according to contemporary economic theories and sensibilities belongs to the Thomistic domain of practical reasoning through prudence.  The commitment to the preferential option for the poor belongs to the Thomistic virtue of charity.  In Aquinas’ language, the faith that does justice is, because it acts in a critical and constructive fashion, more accurately a faith that acts prudently.

The study is devoted to the analysis of Western research on aspects of social security of the Russian-Chinese border. The article provides the allocation social security aspects in the Western descriptions of the Russian-Chinese border in the XVII-XIX centuries. The degree of political conjuncture influence on the interpretation of the social security of the Russian-Chinese border is determined; Modern transformations of the critical concept of social development of border Russian-Chinese territories in the XXI century are analyzed. The novelty of the study is determined by the fact that it is the first analysis of the factors and patterns assessments of social security formation in the territory of the Russian-Chinese border in the works of European and American authors. The result is the determination of the development vector of the Western Social Security methodology of the Russian-Chinese border area from early idealizations to positivist descriptions and a “critical concept”, where Russia is assigned the role of a social threat. The second result is to identify the content of the critical concept of the social security of the Russian-Chinese border, which is that Russian-Chinese relations are perceived by Western researchers as the factor in the lagging of regional society development from the global level. The third result is to analyze the transformation of the critical concept of the social security of the Russian-Chinese border, which is recognized by the regional framework independence and its dependence not so much from the Western trends of globalism but on the influence of East Asian players, the leading among which is China

This article offers a ‘post-heritage’ reading of both iterations of Upstairs Downstairs: the LondonWeekend Television (LWT) series (1971–5) and its shortlived BBC revival (2010–12). Identifying elements of subversion and subjectivity allows scholarship on the LWT series to be reassessed, recognising occasions where it challenges rather than supports the social structures of the depicted Edwardian past. The BBC series also incorporates the post-heritage element of self-consciousness, acknowledging the parallel between its narrative and the production’s attempts to recreate the success of its 1970s predecessor. The article’s first section assesses the critical history of the LWT series, identifying areas that are open to further study or revised readings. The second section analyses the serialised war narrative of the fourth series of LWT’s Upstairs, Downstairs (1974), revealing its exploration of female identity across multiple episodes and challenging the notion that the series became more male and upstairs dominated as it progressed. The third section considers the BBC series’ revised concept, identifying the shifts in its main characters’ positions in society that allow the series’ narrative to question the past it evokes. This will be briefly contrasted with the heritage stability of Downton Abbey (ITV, 2010–15). The final section considers the household of 165 Eaton Place’s function as a studio space, which the BBC series self-consciously adopts in order to evoke the aesthetics of prior period dramas. The article concludes by suggesting that the barriers to recreating the past established in the BBC series’ narrative also contributed to its failure to match the success of its earlier iteration.

BACKGROUND Since November 2019, Covid - 19 has spread across the globe costing people their lives and countries their economic stability. The world has become more interconnected over the past few decades owing to globalisation and such pandemics as the Covid -19 are cons of that. This paper attempts to gain deeper understanding into the correlation between globalisation and pandemics. It is a descriptive analysis on how one of the factors that was responsible for the spread of this virus on a global scale is globalisation. OBJECTIVE - To understand the close relationship that globalisation and pandemics share. - To understand the scale of the spread of viruses on a global scale though a comparison between SARS and Covid -19. - To understand the sale of globalisation present during SARS and Covid - 19. METHODS A descriptive qualitative comparative analysis was used throughout this research. RESULTS Globalisation does play a significant role in the spread of pandemics on a global level. CONCLUSIONS - SARS and Covid - 19 were varied in terms of severity and spread. - The scale of globalisation was different during the time of SARS and Covid - 19. - Globalisation can be the reason for the faster spread in Pandemics.

This chapter presents an examination of the thoughts and writings of Lisa Sowle Cahill, a moral theologian at Boston College. Taking issue with both Germain Grisez and Jean Porter, Cahill seeks to construct a new paradigm of natural law that addresses feminist and poststructural scholars. Cahill believed that any paradigm of intercultural or interreligious ethics that purported to be describing moral duties in the real world must begin by exploring how ethical questions are intimately tied to the concrete experiences in specific (often religiously diverse) communities. Her paradigm addressed the concerns of feminist and postimperialist scholars in moving beyond the “false universalism” offered by paradigms like that of neo-scholasticism, while offering a “realist” understanding of social ethics that remained true to the realist impulses in Catholic moral theology.

Significant gaps remain between public opinion and the scientific consensus on many issues. We present the results of three studies ( N = 722 in total) for the development and testing of a novel instrument to measure a largely unmeasured aspect of scientific literacy: the enterprise of science, particularly in the context of its social structures. We posit that this understanding of the scientific enterprise is an important source for the public’s trust in science. Our results indicate that the Social Enterprise of Science Index (SESI) is a reliable and valid instrument that correlates positively with trust in science ( r = .256, p < .001), and level of education ( r = .245, p < .001). We also develop and validate a six question short version of the SESI for ease of use in longer surveys.
