Abstract Located in the north-central part of Anatolia, Amasya has hosted many civilizations throughout history. The city existed as a major commercial and cultural center during the Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman eras. Many monumental works were gifted by these civilizations to the city, including the Bayezid II Mosque, which was constructed during the Ottoman Empire. In this study, the Bayezid II Mosque was assessed under static and dynamic loads. Results from the static analyses revealed the sections where stress and deformations occurred under static loads. Iron braces were used in these parts to reduce these impacts. Results from the dynamic analyses indicated that the sections of the structure where stresses and deformations have large values are the domes, the minarets, narthex, and the bottom and top points of the columns in the main load-bearing unit. The data derived from this study can serve to guide future restoration efforts.

The present study is aimed at increasing the accuracy of multi-criteria evaluation of alternatives in selecting a location for establishing an intermodal terminal in the North-Central planning development region of Bulgaria. A model has been used in the paper that allows us to increase the accuracy of multicriteria evaluation of all studied alternatives. This has been achieved by converting the values of various units into identical dimensionless units within a defined interval. It makes it possible to do an evaluation of the alternatives by using the real values of the criteria. The model has been used for multi-criteria evaluation of the alternatives in selecting a location for establishing an intermodal terminal in the city of Ruse. The results have been compared with the results of a pre-feasibility study of establishing an intermodal terminal in the city of Ruse in the North-Central planning development region of Bulgaria.

An improved understanding of the vertical load path is necessary for improving the design methodology for concrete crossties and fastening systems. This study focuses on how the stiffness, geometry, and interface characteristics of system components affect the flow of forces in the vertical direction. An extensive field test program was undertaken to measure various forces, strains, displacements and rail seat pressures. A Track Loading Vehicle (TLV) was used to apply well-calibrated static loads. The TLV at slow speeds and moving freight and passenger consists at higher speeds were used to apply dynamic loads. Part of the analysis includes comparison of the static loads and the observed dynamic loads as a result of the trains passing over the test section at different speeds. This comparison helps define a dynamic loading factor that is needed for guiding design of the system. This study also focuses on understanding how the stiffness of the components in the system affects the flow of forces in the vertical direction. The study identifies that the stiffness of the support (ballast) underneath the crossties is crucial in determining the flow of forces. The advances made by this study provide insight into the loading demands on each component in the system, and will lead to improvements in design.

Most of the Palestinians who arrived in the cities of Northeastern Brazil came during the time of the Ottoman Empire in the nineteenth century, especially after the travels of Emperor Dom Pedro II. The arrival of Palestinians before the founding of the State of Israel in 1948 made many Palestinians and their descendants indifferent to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The situation changed in the 1980s as a result of the worsening situation of Palestinians in Lebanon, when the Palestine-Brazil Cultural Center was established in the city of Olinda, Pernambuco, and the deputy Raymundo Asfora made many speeches in defense of the Palestinian cause. These militant actions served as an inspiration for new generations of Palestinians born in Brazil.

On November 15th, 2017, a new sunphotometer was installed for sensing and studying aerosols at National Meteo-rological Service headquarters in the City of Tucumán (26,787oS; 65,207oO), and was integrated to the AERONET/ NASA network. The north-central region of the country is mostly affected by both local and transported biomassburning events. In this work, a statistical study is carried out with the first available measurements done betweenNovember 2017 and December 2018. This analysis shows the averaged values of the aerosol optical properties, theAngstrom coefficient and the aerosol type. In addition, an aerosol transport event during the month of September 2018is studied, highlighting high values of aerosol optical thickness of 0.45 at 440 nm and an Angstrom coefficient of 1.95,indicating the presence of smoke in the local atmosphere.

Abstract Rzeszów is one of the best developing cities in Poland. Once the small HQ of a principality - due to complicated historical conditioning - it has now become a place where an increasing number of people choose to live. The city with its bursting life, streets and squares starts and ends, however, in an area which only a few dozen years ago still catered for one fifth of the current population. The main reason for this phenomenon is the presence of spatial barriers, which significantly limit the development of the central urban area. This article analyzes the elements, which block the development of the north-central part of Rzeszów. An appropriate diagnosis of the problem may in the future allow the right actions in urban planning to be taken in order to cross these barriers. This may lead to the future development of areas with huge urbanization potential. Investments undertaken by city authorities to develop the northern peripheries of Rzeszów may trigger the development of the central district in this direction. This may occur as a result of concrete design interventions. The new part of the central district should have the scale and proportions of urban space that answer to the needs of a dynamically developing capital of the Podkarpacie region.

Abstract In today’s increased pace of life there are some things with incomparable meanings that we are getting too used to. Because of this, architects today play a very big role in the defense of the legacy of our architecture. It is our duty and responsibility to keep defending this legacy, but not stop at just the level of simple preservation. The city of Pécs is filled with architectural remains from different time periods, but most of all buildings from the era of Ottoman Hungary. This architectural heritage was left from one of the bloodiest time periods from the history of our country, and it has become a symbol for the city. In the shadow of the Ottoman Empire, Pécs became an important trading and cultural center, being a bridge between east and west, north and south. While some of the buildings left from this era were brought to public awareness, a lot of them were forgotten, and only a few people know about the architectural treasures the city holds. In this paper I would like to highlight some of the forgotten Ottoman heritage, focusing on the religious buildings. As a conclusion to this paper, I would like to present an architectural plan to bring attention to these buildings.

Ras a1 Khaimah is the most northerly of the seven states comprising the United Arab Emirates and its Ruler, H. H. Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammad al-Qasimi, is keenly interested in the history of the state and its people. Survey carried out there jointly with Dr D. B. Doe in 1968 had focused attention on the site of JuIfar which lies just north of the present town of Ras a1 Khaimah (de Cardi, 1971, 230-2). Julfar was in existence in Abbasid times and its importance as an entrep6t during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries-the Portuguese Period-is reflected by the quantity and variety of imported wares to be found among the ruins of the city. Most of the sites discovered during the survey dated from that period but a group of cairns near Ghalilah and some long gabled graves in the Shimal area to the north-east of the date-groves behind Ras a1 Khaimah (map, FIG. I) clearly represented a more distant past.

On June 7, 2018, a sub-mesoscale anticyclonic eddy induced by the wind (north-east) was registered on the shelf in the area of the city of Gelendzhik. With the help of field multidisciplinary expedition ship surveys, it was shown that this eddy exists in the layer above the seasonal thermocline. At the periphery of the eddy weak variability of hydrochemical parameters and quantitative indicators of phytoplankton were recorded. The result of the formation of such eddy structure was a shift in the structure of phytoplankton – the annual observed coccolithophores bloom was not registered.
