Summary The aim of the paper is to identify the scope of socially responsible actions towards employees in agribusiness enterprises and to assess their impact on the level of economic and social benefits resulting from the use of the CSR concept in business practice. The survey research carried out on a sample of 325 companies from the SME sector conducting business in rural areas of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship served to meet the objective of the paper. The results indicate a positive, strong impact of involvement in the CSR activities on the obtained effects, which is more pronounced in the case of economic benefits than social benefits, and can be observed more clearly in smaller companies. Key socially responsible actions towards employees include employee satisfaction surveys as well as data protection and protection of employee privacy. Activity in the analyzed CSR area mainly translates into financial performance and building a positive image of enterprises in their environment

Sustainable construction is hardly practised in Africa, despite the consistent campaign for its adoption. This study investigates the drivers and effects of sustainable construction in South Africa. The quantitative survey research design was adopted for the study and the respondents were the construction organisations in Johannesburg, South Africa. The study identified 17 significant drivers of sustainable construction, with construction cost as the dominant variable. The important environmental (8), economic (12), and social benefits (7) of sustainable construction were also determined. The challenges (24) of sustainable construction were also identified. The study recommended that measures for low construction cost should be put in place, and awareness campaigns should be enhanced. Economic benefits are still behind environmental benefits, and this could affect some prospective adopters. Lack of knowledge and weak economies were prevalent challenges that underscore the need for Western support for African nations to comfortably adopt sustainable construction.

The present study was undertaken to determine the benefits derived by the respondents being a member of the PAU Tree Growers Association with a sample size of a total of 80 members of the association. The data were collected using an interview schedule pertaining to the benefits derived by the members. The results of the study revealed that the majority of the respondents had derived high technical benefits (96.25 percent), high personal benefits (86.25 percent), high social benefits (70 percent), and medium economic benefits (51.25 percent). Between the various benefits derived by them, technical benefits emerged as the major benefits (mean score =142.4) followed by social benefits (mean score=140.45), personal benefits (mean score=133), and economic benefits (mean score=98.44). Overall the members obtained high benefits from the association (56.25 percent).

The present paper highlights the importance of hedgerows and enclosures in the mountains of Central Spain. Now, these landscapes have suffered profound variations in terms of agroforestry practices, especially in the Mediterranean mountains where the characteristic multifunctional has largely been lost. The article analyzes land uses changes, dynamics, and their morphological features between the first half of the 20th Century (1956) and the second decade of the present time (2019). The paper was divided into three sections. First, the identification of land uses using orthophotograph and aerial photograph; after that the info was checked with fieldwork. Eleven categories were identified according to the dominant use and land use changes and size of land parcels were taken into consideration. Second, the configuration and the information collected through the type and intensity of change in land uses made it possible to recognise and quantify their distribution and trend between these two dates. Also, the kernel density algorithm available in the Arcgis 10.5 software was used to obtain density and changes in land parcels. Finally, an overview is given of the main role that this agroforestry plays due to the social, ecological, and economic benefits that they provide for allowing sustainable development.

In order to meet the diversified consumption needs of urban residents, many new urban express terminal distribution service models have emerged, from the traditional “door to door” service to the current service station and smart cabinets and other service modes coexist. The diversification of urban express delivery service models can not only bring customers a better consumer experience, but also help to further improve the consumption level of urban residents. Through qualitative comparison and analysis of existing urban express terminal distribution service models, this paper can provide a reference for e-commerce companies and logistics companies to choose the urban express terminal distribution service models suitable for their own development. The peripheral (rural) regions in most countries face four vicious circles that contribute to their low level of development and inability to achieve the sustainable level of development. The first vicious circle is related to demography and is caused by the vulnerable population; very few young people and imbalance of women and men lead to poor economy, i.e. dominance of subsistence economy over production or trade; unfavorable age structure combined with poor services lead to very low birth rate and high levels of migration. The second vicious circle of remoteness is related to the fact that poor infrastructure does not attract businesses or new residents in the area, which contributes to high levels of migration as young and working-age population, especially families with young children, move out. The third vicious circle is related to education: the low level of education and skills mean that there is no labor force available in the region, which prevents business from entering the local market. Lack of employment means high poverty risk, which again accelerates migration from the rural areas. All these processes undermine the possibilities for local development simply because there is not enough human or economic capital to sustain rural development. These negative trends are not only typical for rural areas of Russia but have a strong impact on peripheral areas of many other post-socialist and European countries. The governments in Russia and European Union introduced various programs and measures to promote local development so that to overcome the negative consequences of all the mentioned vicious circles. In the first part of the article, the authors evaluate some local development efforts funded by the Ladoga Initiative project, successful and failed projects aimed at overcoming the vicious circles. In the second part of the article, the authors describe grant and priority programs introduced in Russia to support local development.
