Mathematical representation skill is students' ability to express mathematical ideas (such as problems, statements, and definitions) in various ways to solve problems through multiple representations, such as images, words, tables, and symbols mathematics. Students are struggling in representing mathematical ideas. It hampers them in determining the solution of mathematical problems. They are careless in reading the word problems, lacking problem analysis, less thorough, and struggling to connect concepts. The subjects of this study were in two students from one of the junior high school in Jambi. The instruments used for this research were VVQ, Mathematical Representation Ability Test and interviews. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. The results showed that the representation abilities of students with visualizer and verbalizer style were quite good. However, each subject had a different way of solving problems. Visualizers were more interested in questions with image information in solving the problem. Verbalizer tended to prefer information with detailed wording.

The purpose of this study is to describe the intuition characteristics of junior high school students in solving mathematical problems viewed from mathematical abilities. This research based on qualitative descriptive study. The subjects of this study were taken from Lab School UNESA  Junior High School, which consisted of three students from class VIII A, namely one student with high, moderate,  and low mathematical ability. The method that used to collect data consists of the mathematical ability test,  problem solving test and so of the interview method. Data analysis uses the intuitive characteristic indicators at each stage of the problem solving. The conclusion of this study indicate that student with high mathematical ability at the stage of understanding the problem using affirmatory intuition with the characteristics of extrapolativeness, intrinsic certainty and perseverance, at the stage of making plans using anticipatory intuition with the characteristics of global ideas, and at the stage of carrying out plans and checking again not using intuition. Student with moderate mathematical ability at the stage of understanding the problem using affirmatory intuition with the characteristics of extrapolativeness, intrinsic certainty and perseverance, at the stage of making plans using anticipatory intuition with the characteristics of global ideas, and at the stage of carrying out plans and checking again not using intuition. Student with low mathematical ability at the stage of understanding the problem using affirmatory intuition with the characteristics of perseverance and coerciveness, at the stage of making plans using anticipatory intuition with the characteristics of global ideas, and at the stage of carrying out plans and checking again not using intuition. Keywords: Intuition, Problem solving , Mathematics ability

Mathematical problems that they must solve. This is because mathematical representation is a form of expression of ideas displayed by students in various forms in certain situations in an effort to find solutions to the problems faced. The lack of students' understanding of the questions given is most likely due to students who are not able to use mathematical representation correctly. This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach that aims to describe the mathematical representation of junior high school students, especially students with high ability in solving math problems. The subject of this research is one of the eighth grade students of SMP 10 November Sidoarjo selected based on a mathematical ability test. The results of the data description show that in solving problems, students with high mathematical abilities tend to use visual representations, make mathematical equations or mathematical expressions, and answer problems by using written words or text with the results of solving problems mostly correct.

Abstract Mathematical problems that they must solve. The main purpose of this study to investigate the ability of mathematical communication ofHigh School Students, as a result of learning mathematics through application RealisticMathematics Education (RME). Research design used was a quasi experimental. Subjects inthis study consisted of 70 students of class VII Junior High School, Junior High School on oneof the states in Bandung academic year 2015/2016. Subject determined by purposivesampling techniques, and this study using pretest-posttest design of the control group. Datacollected with a mathematical communication ability test descriptions. Data were analyzedusing parametric statistical tests which is Test Independent Sample T-Test and nonparametrical tests which is Test Mann-Whitney. The results showed that: (1) students wholearn math with RME approach has a better ability mathematical communication of studentswho do not learn math with RME; (2) increasing mathematical communication ability ofstudents who learn with RME better than students who do not learn with RME; (3) students'attitudes toward learning mathematics through RME showed a positive attitude.
