This study aims to find out the types and the most dominant illocutionary acts used by the main character in a fantasy movie, ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret’. A descriptive qualitative study was done by observing the utterances spoken by the main character in the movie. The spoken utterances were then analysed based on the types of illocutionary acts, namely: representative, directive, commissive, expressive and declarative.  The results of the study showed that out of the five, only four types of illocutionary acts were found in the movie, they are representative, directive, expressive, and commissive. The most frequently illocutionary act used is directive (47.64%), while the least frequently used is commissive (4.19%). The directive forces used by the main character are varied. Directives are used get the hearers to do something, where in the movie, he often used asking and ordering. Meanwhile, declarative is not employed by the main character since performing declarative act needs authorities and status; this act is used to change the world through utterances. But the main character in this movie do not have any certain status or authority in any position at the magic school he attended, he is a student, still new with the magic world and do not have much power. This is why declarative was not found in the utterances of the main character.

Purpose of the study: This study aimed at finding out the types of illocutionary acts which create humor effect in the sitcom The Big Bang Theory Episode The Thespian Catalyst (S04E14). Methodology: A descriptive qualitative study with the pragmatic approach of illocutionary acts suggested by Searle (1975) was undertaken by observing the utterances spoken by all the characters in the sitcom. Main findings: The results of the study showed that there were four types of illocutionary acts found in the sitcom; assertive, directive, commissive, and expressive. Those illocutionary acts also flouted the maxim of Cooperative Principles, i.e. quality and relevance. In conclusion, it can be known that the humor that occurred in the sitcom is the result of the way the characters conveyed illocutionary acts that also have flouted the maxim as in the Cooperative Principles. Applications of this study: This study is expected to be a reference for other studies in the field of pragmatics particularly in illocutionary acts. Novelty/Originality of this study:This current study, however, would discuss The Big Bang Theory sitcom by using the Illocutionary Act framework proposed by Searle (1975).

There is no one ever doubts the quality of Kahlil Gibran as a poet or man of letters. His great name is the guarantee of his literature works’ quality. Almost every work, most of them are prose poetry, gain great success, and one of the indications is by translating into various languages in the world, including Indonesian. One of his most success works and receives international acknowledgment as well as his own admission as his best work is The Prophet. The Prophet includes many lessons bearing deconstruction values, which has been proven in this study. Deconstruction values within The Prophet is still inherent in each statement of its main character (Al Mustafa/Gibran) about topic concerning with many kinds of human problems, such as love, marriage, child, friendship, beauty, happiness, sadness, work, religion, and even death. In this study those values were contrasted or compared to various realities in form of text and social fenomena of the community in order to find their contradictions or similarities. This qualitative study used moral approach because its review material is intrinsic aspect of a literature works related to values. While the analysis technique used content analysis because it tried to disclose, understand, and catch the massage beneath the literature work. While the “knite” used to cut and disentangle its values is deconstruction. Deconstruction is an idea which strive to cope the world view which has been boxed all along within a normative understanding that this world consists of two opposing elements, such as rational-irrational, traditional- modern, logic-illogic, good-bad, man-women, and so on. Then deconstruction tries to look for gaps or alternatives between the two opposing elements. Thus, deconstruction is not always extreme in its meaning: confirm or nullify.

Law protection for journalists has been guaranteed through legislation as outlined in law number 40 of 1999 concerning the press. Through the press law, the independence of the national press is a priority as a form of protection in the world of the press. In order to safeguard the independence of the national press, an independent body was formed which took care of and supervised the national press, the press council. Among the duties and functions of the press council is to enforce journalistic ethics through a journalistic code of ethics as a guide for journalists both journalists and press companies. The dynamics that occur, violations of the journalistic code of ethics sometimes create clashes with the public or the community who feel disadvantaged which results in conflict with the law. This research is a descriptive qualitative study with a normative juridical approach. From the analysis of this study shows that legal protection against violations of the journalistic code of ethics and the independence of the national press is adjusted to the main laws of the press against the intervention of parties who feel disadvantaged. This study discusses the psychological aspects of the main character. The purpose of the study is to explain the understanding and details in depth about the personality and emotional classification of the main character. This is a descriptive qualitative study. The approach used is literary psychology. The documentation technique by means of reading and taking notes is used to obtain data from Hamka's novelette entitled “Waiting for the Sounding”. The content analysis technique is used in this study to find information and in-depth understanding of the data collected. Data validation uses theory triangulation. The results and discussion show that Mr. Sharif's personality is influenced by the id, the ego, and the superego. Mr. Sharif in the novelette is described as having a lonely character and suffering from the life he lived. He worked as a Dutch employee in order to escape the misery of the colonial period at that time. Therefore, it seems that Mr. Sharif’s various emotions demonstrate a form of conflict both with oneself (internal conflict) in the form of regret and feelings of guilt and with the environment (external conflict) in the form of love, envy and hate, and loneliness
