Based on a case study this research aims to answer if it is possible to, automatically, materialize fire safety standards in 3D forms using algorithmic-design software and also, to analyse means, methods and requirements for its creation. First, with a short literature review it was possible to approach the concepts of BIM and parametric design as well as its use throughout design process, this review was extended to fire safety standards seeking to understand how it defines architectural details in Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. Finally, a digital tool was developed using software Windows Excel and Rhinoceros/Grasshopper, and a set simulations were made to validate its use. The study showed it is possible to achieve results similar to the ones obtained by conventional methods; therefore, the use of legal constraints as parameters on an algorithm design software may bring more flexibility to design process as it can fasten the design choices validation.

During the optioneering phase, engineers face the challenge of choosing between myriads of possible designs, while, simultaneously, several sorts of constraints have to be considered. We show in a case study of a 380 m long viaduct how parametric modelling can facilitate the design process. The main challenge was to satisfy the constraints imposed by several different stakeholders. In order to identify sustainable, aesthetic, economic as well as structurally efficient options, we assessed several key performance indicators in real time. By automatically estimating steel and concrete volumes, a simple, yet suitable approximation of the embodied carbon (considering 85-95%) can be obtained at a very early design stage. In summary, our parametric approach allowed us to consider a wider range of parameters and to react more flexibly to changing conditions during the project.

The focus of this paper is that we want to give a brief introduction about the idea of Parametric Design (PD) and the use of data to inform the design process. The digital fabrication is not covered in detail in this document. In the case study “Live Building” explains a sensory process. The project shows how to collect data, transformed and transported into a shape. Innovation is not only the approach of the draft, but the systematic procedure and the resulting diversity of solutions. The search for the geometric shape and the key to the concept will be answered in detail.

Abstract:. Recent trends and rapid developments in computing gives tremendous impact in many disciplines beside computer science. Architecture is one of disciplines that have undergone an evolution in paradigm as a result of this development. Parametric design is one of the approaches used in architectural design which lead to the advance circumtances in design process. This approach adopts some of designer-friendly programming language where architects can utilize unlimited computation abilities from computers in search of design solutions by designing their parametric definitions or rules. This article will discuss about the parametric approach to the design of multi-storey building buildings. The case study in this research is the design competition of ASEAN Secretariat building (ESAC) organized by Ikatan Arsitek Indonesia (IAI) Jakarta. The Grasshopper platform is used to explore for building form (form-finding) that maximize the view toward its site. A simple radiation analysis is also conducted in this design process using the plug-in called Ladybug + Honey bee and Multi-Objecive Optimization using Octopus plug-in, to look for minimal radiation that is affected by the location of the building form. Keywords: Parametrik desain, Grasshopper, Ladybug + Honey bee, Octopus Abstrak: Tren dan perkembangan yang pesat dalam komputasi banyak mempengaruhi disiplin lain diluar ilmu komputer.

Abstract This paper introduces a new methodology called ‘Design for Facility over Internet (DFF)’. This methodology provides an Internet-based environment for designers to perform manufacturability analysis of product designs with respect to the capabilities of existing manufacturing facilities, upfront into the design process. In the current work, only fixturing (machining datums) capabilities of a manufacturing facility are considered. A prototype DFF system for an automotive connecting rod, is developed. The system enables the designers to design the connecting rods by considering the fixturing (datums) capabilities of existing manufacturing facilities upfront at the concept design stage. The complete system implementation will also enable the manufacturers of connecting rods to create and update the database of their capabilities over the Internet. The DFF system analyzes the parametric design with respect to the fixturing capabilities and generates suggestions for a designer, to modify his design if required, to fit the capabilities of specified facilities.

Aiming at the complicated design process and expensive design software of packaging carton, the completely parametric design system of packaging carton was developed according to the general method and model of structural design and the general form of the graphic display and output of packaging carton on the Visual Basic and AutoCAD platform. A new design pattern for packaging carton was formed in this system, which can design the structural graphic of packaging carton on the Visual Basic and exhibit it in the AutoCAD. Its workflow accorded with traditional one. The system can remedy the limitation of design process, improve design efficiency, and reduce the design cost.

One example of the growing information technology today is mobile learning, mobile learning which refers to mobile technology as a learning medium. Mobile learning is learning that is unique for each student to access learning materials anywhere, anytime. Mobile learning is suitable as a model of learning for the students to make it easier to get an understanding of a given subject, such as math is pretty complicated and always using formulas. The design method that I use is the case study method, namely, learning, searching and collecting data related to the study. While the development of engineering design software application programs that will be used by the author is the method of Rapid Application Development (RAD), which consists of 4 stages: Requirements Planning Phase, User Design Phase, Construction Phase and Phase Cotuver.

The brand is a powerful representational and identification-led asset that can be used to engage staff in creative, sustainable and developmental activities. Being a brand the result of, foremost, a design exercise, it is fair to suppose that it can be a relevant resource for the advancement of design literacy within organisational contexts. The main objective of this paper was to test and validate an interaction structure for an informed co-design process on visual brand artefacts. To carry on the empirical study, a university was chosen as case study as these contexts are generally rich in employee diversity. A non-functional prototype was designed, and walkthroughs were performed in five focus groups held with staff. The latter evidenced a need/wish to engage with basic design principles and high willingness to participate in the creation of brand design artefacts, mostly with the purposeof increasing its consistent use and innovate in its representation possibilities, whilst augmenting the brand’s socially responsible values.
