The industrialization of the art of craft at Tegallalang, Gianyar, Bali results from the technological, economic and cultural development and leads to the production of different types of products of the art of craft. The industrialization of the art of craft cannot be separated from the role played by the stakeholders in order to obtain benefit. The problems of the study are as follows (a) what stakeholders play roles in the industrialization of the art of craft at Tegallalang, Gianyar, Bali? (2) How the stakeholders play their roles in the industrialization of the art of craft at Tegallalang, Gianyar, Bali? This present study is a qualitative one in which the critical theory of social practice proposed by Bourdieu and the ethnographic approach are used.             The result of the study shows that the stakeholders playing roles in the industrialization of the art of craft at Tegallalang, Gianyar, Bali include the parents, the traditional village, the administrative village, the local government, the provincial government, craftsmen, the raw material supplier, the formal and informal financial institution, and foreign consumers. The stakeholders play their roles using different capitals such as the cultural capital, social capital, and economical capital. Those who have big capitals will dominate those who have fewer capitals and organize what products should be produced.

This research paper aims at providing a brief and exemplified introduction of the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu’s two particularly important theoretical concepts: Cultural Capital and Habitus. Cultural capital, according to Bourdieu, is gained mainly through an individual’s initial learning, and is unconsciously influenced by the surroundings (Bourdieu, 2000). In the case of habitus, it relates to the resource of knowledge (Bourdieu 1990). Knowledge is about the way how people view and understand the world, which is gained via a specific culture that an individual lives in. While also showing how Bourdieu’s work on economic capital, social capital and cultural capital can help us to understand the contemporary world and its practices.

Palabras clave: capital social, redes sociales, organizaciones de la sociedad civil, pobreza, exclusiónAbstractThe growth of poverty during the two last decades in Argentina has had its correlate in the sprouting and development of a great amount of communitarian organizations in the excluded.

This paper uses Bourdieu’s model of the three forms of capital — economic capital, social capital and cultural capital — to explore the complex relationship between the spiritual and temporal spheres described in medieval hagiographical texts. It focuses on the vita of Hugh of Avalon, Bishop of Lincoln, composed in the early thirteenth century during a period of important procedural developments in the process of papal canonization. This paper argues that the two necessary prerequisites for canonization by the beginning of the thirteenth century, namely miracles and sanctity of life, can be analysed as forms of symbolic capital, which could be transformed into material goods through the mechanism of divine providence. Thus sanctity — in particular, a reputation for ascetic behaviour — was not merely a form of capital: it was also the mechanism through which one form of capital could be transformed into another.
