The method of collecting data was documentation method and note taking technique and the data were analyzed by comparing phrasal verbs between the source language and target language in the Movie Finding Dory subtitle. The result of this study shows that the types of translation procedures mostly used are transposition and modulation. There is skewed information found in the translation of phrasal verbs. From the result of the study, it can be concluded that there are differences in terms of structural formation of words between the source and the target language, different perspectives between two languages, and in translating between SL and TL resulting in the skewed information which is not the exact equivalent of the SL. It also causes distortion in the message.

The form of a phrasal verb may be the same but they bear different meanings in accordance with the context of situation. The dynamics of language also influence the change of phrasal verb meanings. This paper presents the problems faced by the translator in translating several phrasal verbs in the novel Thirteen Reasons Why by applying the theory of Ghazala in which it is stated that phrasal verbs are linked with the lexical problems and stylistics. Lexical problems coccur when a word, a phrase or an expression is not understood clearly and directly, misunderstood, not known at all to translators, or not found in standard dictionaries, while stylistic problems, righty seen as a part of meaning strongly affect  the style of source language posing problems for the translator as the styles of the ST and TT could not  be easily adjusted to similarity.  The data in the forms of phrasal verbs are taken from the source language and in the target language, supported by the descriptive qualitative method. The results of show that the problems in translating the phrasal verbs in the novel lie in lexical words (literal meaning, synonymy, polysemy, and idiom) and stylistics (formality and informality of language)

The research was aimed at investigating categories of Indonesian cultural terms translated into English, explaining techniques of applied translation, and analyzing foreignization and domestication ideologies applied in the translations of Indonesian cultural terms into English in the novel Gadis Pantai that translated into The Girl from the Coast. This research was conducted through descriptive-qualitative approach. The data were collected through document analysis including content analysis and thematic analysis. The results show that there are five categories of cultural terms identified in the novel which are translated by using 16 techniques of translation, including the applications of single and double techniques of translation. In addition to foreignization and domestication ideologies of translation, it is also revealed that there is also partial foreignization and partial domestication ideologies of translation since some of the Indonesian identified cultural terms are translated through combinations of two different techniques of translation; combinations of source-language- and target-language-oriented techniques of translation. The most frequently-applied ideology of translation is domestication (82,20%), followed by foreignization (9,82%), as well as partial foreignization and partial domestication (7,98%).

This research uses descriptive qualitative research which aimed to find the cranberry morphemes and the applications in Mark Twain’s selected works entitled The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Cranberry morpheme is a morpheme that occurs in only one word and it can be thought of as a bound root that occurs in only one word. The bound roots are often foreign borrowings that were free in the source language, but not free in English. Documentation method used to collect the data. Translational identity method used to analyze the data because the research involves other language which is Latin. Some theories are employed to analyze the data, such as Carstairs-McCarthy (2002) and Denham (2010). The result shows that there are 12 Latin-derived cranberry morphemes found:-ceiv, –sum, -mit, -duc, -serv, -scrib, -tain, -fer,-vert, -ced, -lat, and –vok which -ceiv is the dominance and 3 non-Latin-derived cranberry morphemes found: twi-, -kemp and hap- which twi- is the dominance. The applications of cranberry morphemes occur with and without affix which are suffixes -ed, -er, -ing, and -s. The suffix -ed is the most frequently used suffix of the cranberry morpheme application.

This study aims at identifying the types of category shifts and explaining their occurrence in the translation of complex noun phrases from English into Indonesian in The Valley of Fear Novel. The data were collected using observation method which was supported by implementing note taking technique in order to find out, identify, and classify the data. The data were analyzed by applying the qualitative descriptive method. The theory applied in this study is the theory of translation proposed by Catford (1965) to identify the types of category shifts found and to explain their occurrence. The result shows that all types of category shifts proposed by Catford (1965) such as structure shift, class shift, intra-system shift, and unit shift are found in the translation. Structure shift occurs in the highest frequency of 339 cases or about 66,86% out of total 507 cases, class shift occurs 75 cases or 14,79 % out of total 507 cases, and intra-system shift occurs 48 cases or 9,46 % out of total 507 cases, and unit shift occurs 45 cases or 8,87 % out of total 507 cases. The occurrence of category shift is caused by the different characteristics of source language and target language.

This article discusses one of the linguistic challenges discovered in a translation product, namely shifts. The shifts in translation product are inevitable due to numbers of factors, such as cultural differences and unique language systems. The approach used to describe the findings is descriptive-qualitative by having textual data from the source language in English and target language in Indonesian. Having these comparisons will assist to focusing on the analysis of shifts happened in the translation. The data source is one of Sidney Sheldon’s famous novel Windmills of the Gods and its translation in Indonesian language Kincir Angin Para Dewa. There are 112 shifts found in the Indonesian translation, yet this article focuses on ten most representative translation shifts based on Catford’s (1974) translation shifts’ concepts, that is shift of level and shift of category. In this case, the article will take more portion to describe the clause shifts in particular.
