Ideal English teachers are those who have no longer problems with English. Therefore, having good competence of English is a must for English teacher candidates. TOEFL is one of the tests to measure the competence. The aims of this research are to find out the maximum score of TOEFL PREDICTION achieved by the students of S1 English Education Program, Academic Year 2016/2017 and to find out the lowest score of the test component achieved.The kind of this research is descriptive. The data collection was conducted by applying Total Sampling Technique. The instrument of this research was TOEFL PREDICTION TEST (paper based). The test is scored on a scale of 217 to 677. The finding of the research shows that there is no respondent who can achieve the high score (0%). Most of the respondents achieved middle score (88.3%). The respondents achieving the low score are only 9.3%. The respondents are good enough in Listening and Structure. The scores are 46 and 41, but they are “weak” in Reading. The score is 39.

This research purposed on knowing basic teaching skill quality of teacher candidates in study subject Microteaching of Department of Biology Education, Pasir Pengaraian University, academic year 2016/2016. This research is qualitative research. This research has been done in February to June 2015. The subject of this research is all of the 6th semester students who are taking the Microteaching Study Subject. The instruments of this research including syllabus, teaching plans, and questionnaire. The technique of collecting data in this research is from the research’s informant, that is 1) The lecturer of Department of Biology Education, 2) The faculty lecturer (from Department of English Education, Mathematics Education, Physics Education, and Sport Education), and 3) The university lecturer (from other faculty in Pasir Pengaraian University). The technique which is use is data analysis technique according to Miles & Huberman that is data reduction, data presentation, and taking conclusion. The research results explain that the basic teaching skill quality of teacher candidates in Microteaching of Department of Biology Education, Pasir Pengaraian University with ratings of 3.13 or includes good criteria.

This research aimed to find out the students’ access to ICT application and how far ICT application helps students in mastering English language skills faced by English students of English Education Study Program at the University of Bengkulu in the 2020/2021 academic year. This research was an explanatory sequential mixed methods design. The population of this research was English students of English Education Study Program at the University of Bengkulu. The sample of this research was selected by using purposive sampling technique, totaling 80 students for questionnaire and 24 students for interview. The data were collected by using questionnaire and interview. The instruments were consisted of 15 items adapted from Dang Hoang Tri and Nhung Hong Thi Nguyen (2014). This research used Microsoft Excel to analyze the data.  The result of this study showed that students access 15 ICT applications in English learning. Also, researcher found that the majority of students have positive perception towards ICT application can help students in mastering English language skills.

The objectives of this study were to find out (1) the completeness of the students’ comments on Facebook, (2) the quality of the students’ comments, and (3) the percentage of how well the students identified the characters of a good paragraph. The population of this study was the fourth-semester Palembang class students of English Education Study Program 2013 of Sriwijaya University. The sample of the study was 48 students that were selected by using total sampling technique. The data were collected from the students’ comments on Facebook of Writing II class in the academic year 2015 and analyzed by using two rubrics containing scoring systems. The results showed that the completeness in giving comments on the Facebook group could be categorized into a very good category with the final score was 10. While, the quality of the comment from the students was also Good with the final score was 15.56. The percentage of how well the students identified the characters of a good paragraph was 83.33% in very good level, 10.41 % in good level and 6.25 % in average level. Overall, the final score of the students’ comments from those three research questions were average with the score was 9.85. It can be concluded that the students’ comments on Facebook Comment Column in Writing II Class in the academic year 2015 was average. Keywords: academic writing; Facebook; peer comments

The objectives of this research are to identify the perception toward schema theory that used in reading class on the fifth semester students of English Education Study Program of FKIP UNIB in academic year 2010/2011. The population of this research was the fifth semester students of English Education Program of FKIP UNIB in academic year 2010/2011. The population of this study was the whole fifth semester students of English Study Program of Bengkulu University for academic year 2010 – 2011 which consist of 38 students. The sample of this study used total sampling technique. This study was a descriptive study. The instrument of this study was questionnaire. The questionnaire consists of 25 items that purpose to measure students’ perception toward schema theory. The result of this research show that the schema theory  had  86,50%  positive  perception,  12,30%  neutral  perception  and  1,20%  negative perception. It displayed that the respondents had high positive perception toward schema theory. It means that most of the students agree with the application of schema theory as a learning style in the fifth semester students of English Education Program of FKIP UNIB in academic year 2010/2011.

The objective of the research is to find out whether or not video blog can improve the speaking ability of the students of English Education Department of FTK UINAM in academic year 2017/2018.  The researcher applied pre-experimental method, with one group pretest and posttest design which employed speaking test to find out the students’ speaking performance in terms of accuracy. The sample consisted of 20 students used purposive sampling technique taken from the population of the second semester students of Sulawesi Flight. The result of the data analysis indicated that there was significant difference of students’ speaking performance before and after being trained through video blog. It is proved by result of statistical analysis of the level significance 0.05 with degree of freedom (df) =  N-1 = 20-1 = 19 which indicated that t-test value of final score I speaking ability (13.309) was greater than t-table (2.093). Therefore, video blog can improve speaking performance of the students.

This study aims to identify the misconceptions of a prospective chemistry teacher. The study population was all students of the Chemistry Study Program at the University of Riau, while the sample was 66 students at the Chemistry Study Program at the University of Riau, selected by cluster random sampling technique. Conception data of chemistry teacher candidates on acid-base subjects have been identified and obtained by providing valid acid-base TTT diagnostic tests to chemistry teachers candidates. The result of this research showed that chemistry teacher candidate who experienced misconception on acid-base subject were 66.5% from 4 main concepts studied, namely acid and base concepts (51.15%), pH and pOH concepts and their calculations (79.06%), the concept of acid-base dissociation degree (75.43%), and the concept of acid-base titration and indicator (58.13%). The study also revealed that some students have difficulties in performing mathematical operations using logarithms.

Abstrak Listening adalah salah satu keterampilan yang harus dikuasai dalam belajar bahasa Inggris. Bagaimanapun, belajar Listening sangat penting karena dapat membantu membangun pondasi untuk belajar keterampilan lainnya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan kesulitan belajar Listening  yang paling sering dihadapi mahasiswa di Universitas Ma’arif Nahdlatul Ulama Kebumen. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Universitas Ma’arif Nahdlatul Ulama Kebumen. Tipe penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Data yang dikumpulkan dalam bentuk gambar dan kata. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa yang telah mendapatkan pelajaran Listening dan terdaftar sebagai mahasiswa Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan di Universitas Ma’arif Nahdlatul Ulama Kebumen. Hasil penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut: terdapat lima permasalahan yang menyebabkan mahasiswa mengalami kesulitan dalam belajar dan melakukan Listening. (1) Speakers berbicara terlalu cepat. (2) Keterbatasan kosa kata yang dimiliki siswa dalam aktivitas atau latihan Listening, menyebabkan siswa sulit menangkap kata-kata dengan jelas dalam pelajaran Listening. (3) Kurang konsentrasi dalam Listening. (4) mahasiswa merasa audio speaker tidak jelas. (5) sedikitnya waktu untuk belajar dan praktek Listening. Kata Kunci : Listening, Kesulitan, Kualitatif, Analisis Abstract Listening is one of the skills that must be comprehended in learning English. Therefore, learning listening is very important because it helps students to  build a foundation for other skill. The aims of this study is to find out the difficulties that mostly faced by students in learning listening at University of Maarif Nahdlatul Ulama Kebumen. This research was conducted at University of Maarif Nahdlatul Ulama Kebumen. The type of  this research was descriptive qualitative. The data were collected in the form of images and words. The subjects of this research were students who had taken listening course and registered to English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at the University of Ma'arif Nahdlatul Ulama Kebumen. The result of this research as following : there were five problems that caused students faced  difficulties in learning and doing listening exercises. (1) Speakers spoke fastly. (2) Students lacked of vocabulary in listening activity or exercise, that was why students did not catch the word clearly in listening course. (3) Students lacked of concentration in listening. This research is a descriptive study to determine the profile of teaching materials and the ability of pre-service teacher to convey the results of the placement at the University of Puangrimaggalatung (UNIPRIMA) Sengkang in environmental biology subjects. The study's population consisted of undergraduate pre-service teacher in the third semester of the 2016/2017 academic year and lecturer of environmental biology subjects. The sampling technique was carried out by targeted sampling so that 37 subjects were used. Techniques for collecting interviews and observations. The tool, which was used in the form of interview guidelines to find out the profile of the teaching materials used, reported the practice assessment of practice-related reports to determine the ability to communicate the results of laboratory report. The data were analyzed descriptively. Based on the results of the study of teaching materials used in the matter, it needs to be developed/produced again and still needs to be done through the development of research and context teaching materials. The ability of pre-service teacher to communicate the results of the work placement in lab reports is still considered sufficient and needs to be improved again, especially with regard to the accuracy of the analysis of data findings and the relevance of the theory in the analysis of experimental data.

This research examined university students’ ability in paraphrasing paragraphs. This descriptive quantitative research took students of the English Education Department of Universitas Riau as samples using cluster random sampling technique. The selected sample was a Class of the English Study Program, Universitas Riau, which consists of 34 students. The data were collected by administering an online test of paraphrasing paragraphs through Google Form. The collected data were analyzed by three raters and the results were calculated and classified by using adaptation guide rubric from Brown (2004). Three aspects of paraphrasing were assessed and analyzed: contents of information, choice of words and writing convention. This study found that the ability of the Students of English Study Program in paraphrasing paragraphs was an unacceptable level, with total points; 11.21 for Content Information aspect, 9.52 for Choice of Words aspect, and 9.75 for Writing Conventions aspect. In order to answer the research question on how bad the ability is, the only clear answer is that all facts that are found within the research are only referring to the ‘crisis’ of paraphrasing ability shown by the university students themselves. This finding showed that the university students’ ability in paraphrasing paragraphs is low, due to the facts that; First, they get a low-level score in all aspects of paraphrasing. Second, they still make many fatal mistakes in every aspect of paraphrasing like; skipping important details in paraphrasing that may lead to misinformation, misusing the vocabulary and diction in creating the words in paraphrasing, and severe problems in the grammar, punctuation, and spelling (writing conventions). Moreover, choice of words seems to be the most difficult aspect for the students since it had the lowest score than other aspects in paraphrasing. This research suggests that English students should be exposed to more practices in their academic writing subject about paraphrasing skills

Many students usually find it hard to speak in English, because they have not practiced enough. This reason makes them cannot speak English well. Speaking is the skill which student should master it in order to communicate with other people. The situation in the learning process is one of the important things that the teacher should consider. This research aims to know; (1) the students’ achievement of the third semester of English Education Department at the University of Technology Yogyakarta in speaking English using role-play technique on academic year 2018/2019, and (2) the influencing factors to the students’ speaking skill achievement using role-play technique. The method used was quantitative method with experimental design to 9 students as the research sample. The data were analysed using Microsoft Excel 2013. The findings indicated that the mean score increased from 70 to 78.88, the standard deviation also improved from 6.123 to 7.817. Furthermore, the data from questionnaire indicated that the students had positive responses toward the use of role-play technique. Therefore, the use of role-play technique can improve the students’ speaking ability at this experimental research.
