During the pandemic, children aged 5-6 years need time to learn from home so that cognitive abilities during the pandemic experience obstacles. Family motivation has an important role in empowering children's cognitive abilities. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of family motivation on the cognitive abilities of children aged 5-6 years during the pandemic. The research method used is quantitative. The research subjects found 60 children consisting and 60 parents of: grades B1, B2, B3, B4 at the Putera Bhineka Institute. Data collection techniques using observation, questionnaires, and documentation. The validity and reliability test showed that all the item instruments used were valid and reliable. Data analysis using SPSS 22.0 with simple linear regression test based on hypothesis testing. The results showed that there was no significant effect of motivation on children's cognitive abilities during the pandemic aged 5-6 years. The results of calculations with simple linear regression analysis and hypothesis testing can be said that tcount is 1.311 and a significance value is 0.195. The significant value is 0.195 > 0.05 or seen in the tcount of 1.311 < ttable 2.001. These results can be influenced by environmental factors in the community and the school environment. The findings of this study contribute that during the pandemic, children's cognitive abilities are not influenced by family motivation, but rather by environmental and other factors.

In-service training is very important in the life of a learner and general performance of the school. Student achievement is linked to numerous factors, but quality teachers are one of the most important components of student success. If school teachers do not have the tools they need to teach students effectively, their students will not get quality education. The major purpose of the study was to assess the role of teacher In-service training as a tool for the student’s performance in selected public schools in Kisoro district. The study applied a mixed methods research design which involved both quantitative and qualitative methods to collect and analyze data. Quantitative data were collected using questionnaire while qualitative data, in-depth interviews. Study sample included the district inspector of schools and District Education Officer and 238 teachers in Kisoro district. It also positively contributes to teacher’s performance. Importantly also, in-service teacher training according to the findings motivates teachers for better results. To teach effectively, teachers need access to ongoing teacher professional development. This professional development enables teachers to improve their own education through seminars, workshops, and classes among others. The study therefore recommends that teachers should frequently be afforded study leaves or time off to do training. During this period, the school can hire part-time teachers so that normal learning is not disrupted. It’s important to appreciate that continual professional development gives teacher’s time to learn and implement new strategies.

Sports practitioners and learners who are good at English can better serve large-scale international sports events, and at the same time can better carry forward the traditional Chinese national sports spirit and promote cultural exchanges. In this paper, literature review, mathematical analysis and questionnaire surveys are applied to study self-assessment of proficiency of college PES in the four English micro skills. Results show that college PES had lower English scores in the college entrance examination, the four English micro skills at the high school stage are poor, the English proficiency of different grades of college PES is not comparable, and the English writing ability of college PES of higher grades is slightly better than that of lower grades, and both grades have not enough time to learn English. Moreover, it acquired some promotion strategies to improve present situation that provided evidence for better learning four English micro skills.

Early childhood is a time to learn to deal with feelings, whether disappointed, sad, angry when what they want is not fulfilled. That's all a natural and natural feeling. Sometimes without us realizing it we as adults clog an emotion, for example distracting a child. However, if this feeling cannot be expressed by the child, there will be a pile of emotions that can later explode and get out of control, and appear like a tamper tantrum. Expressing emotions with dangerous actions is a form of tantrums so that children get what they want or need. The older the child, the more energy he puts into expressing his emotions. Therefore it is difficult for adults to control and prevent uncontrollable behavior. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of counseling guidance in overcoming children with temper tantrums in RA Anak Salih Suwayuwo, precisely in group A children. Researchers used qualitative methods in their research. Counseling guidance at RA Anak Salih Suwayuwo is carried out through various stages of certain services.

Machine learning technologies have developed rapidly in recent years, and people are now able to use them in various spheres of life, making their lives easier and better. The agro-industry is not lagging behind, and every year more and more problems in this area are solved with the help of machine learning algorithms. However, among the problems that have not yet been solved is the problem of identifying diseases of agricultural plants. According to the UN research, about 40% of the world’s harvest dies each year from various diseases, most of which could be avoided through timely intervention and treatment. To solve this problem, we offer an easy, accessible service for everyone, which will allow one to predict by the image of the plant leaves whether it is sick or healthy, or whether it needs any help or intrusion. This service will be indispensable for small farms engaged in growing crops. Thus, it will allow employees of such enterprises to immediately detect diseases and receive recommendations for the care of plants important to them. Therefore, it was decided to develop a neural network architecture that will solve this problem: the prediction of a plant disease by the image of its leaves. This neural network model is lightweight, does not take much time to learn, and has high accuracy on our dataset. It was also investigated which popular architectures (e.g. XceptionNet, DenseNet, etc.) of deep neural networks can have great accuracy in solving this problem. To realize the possibility of using the model by end users, i.e. farmers, it was decided to develop a special web service in the form of a telegram bot. With this bot, anyone can upload images of the leaves of agricultural plants and check whether this plant is healthy or free of any diseases. This bot is also trained to give appropriate advice to gardeners on the treatment of diseases or the proper cultivation of healthy plants. This solution fully solves the problem and has every chance to become an indispensable helper in preserving the world harvest.

The arrival of advanced communication and information technologies has changed the method of teaching and learning in the 21st century. Thus, different types of impactful teaching approaches have been applied by educators to ensure that the focus of education is not only to deliver knowledge but also to cultivate students’ problem solving, creativity, collaboration and communication skills. In view of a subject which is totally new to students, they need time to learn and practise the skills learned which include listening, speaking, reading and writing. However, the credit hour for the particular subject is only two hours per week, which is a challenge for the lecturer to guide students in achieving the learning outcomes of the subject and to implement the teaching and learning process. Therefore, the scaffolding teaching method was chosen as an action research to see the impact on student’s learning. The focus of the study was Introductory Mandarin Level 1. The new roles of teachers were applied through a mechanism including self-learning, group discussion, and presentation. Lecturer had designed and created self-learning notes as a reference to help students understand the particular lesson, facilitated students using effective questioning skills and summarized the lesson at the end to scaffold students’ learning. At the end of the semester, students were required to answer a survey questionnaire regarding teaching and learning. This approach gave a positive result which showed that it managed to motivate students to participate in class. Students enjoyed the activities in class and were more active and confident to express their ideas as they understood the topic well during their discussion rather than one way lecture in the class. Purpose This paper aims to conduct a qualitative needs assessment to explore the effectiveness of Houston’s refugee resettlement efforts in the areas of employment, health care and education. Design/methodology/approach Using referral sampling, the authors identified refugee community leaders and staff members at the five refugee resettlement agencies in Houston. The authors conducted 29 qualitative interviews with these contacts from February–August 2017. Findings Recently resettled refugees may struggle to find and maintain employment in Houston due to difficulty accessing public transportation. Refugees seeking medical care in Houston often have difficulty navigating the complexities of the health-care system and communicating with their physicians due to language barriers. Finally, refugee children may have trouble adapting to Houston public schools, sometimes because they have limited experience with formal education. This study provided insights into the challenges Houston refugees face during resettlement and these barriers can be mitigated with policies designed specifically to address them. Practical implications The authors recommend decreasing public transportation fees for refugees, supporting programs that donate used vehicles to refugees, expanding access to English as a Second Language classes for refugee children and adults and giving refugees designated time to learn English upon arrival. Originality/value Houston welcomes more resettled refugees than any other American city. However, few studies have explored the barriers refugees face during the resettlement process.

The spring phase of the pandemic made the education of adolescents with specific learning difficulties (SpLD) challenging. In the present study, which included 122 adolescents with SpLD (50% from Slovenia, 50% from Germany), we investigated how Slovenian and German adolescents with SpLD perceived and solved some of the challenges of distance learning. The study data were collected with two online questionnaires (in Slovenian and German, respectively). Slovenian adolescents were statistically significantly more likely than German adolescents to mention problems with attention, the importance of multisensory learning, and the importance of being able to choose the time to learn, as well as psychosomatic problems. Slovenian adolescents had more experiences with praise from teachers during the pandemic and they also mentioned more issues with the transition to distance learning and the use of information and communication technology. Younger adolescents had more parental help. Male adolescents were more likely to report that they did not have the right spatial conditions for learning. German adolescents spent more time chatting on social media and experienced less support for learning. Female adolescents were more likely to express fear of the pandemic and a lack of learning support, while male adolescents across the sample missed their peers more. Most of the respondents came from families in which the pandemic did not cause serious material and spatial problems, but German adolescents were statistically significantly less likely to feel these consequences. According to the respondents, the spatial and material conditions were similar in both countries.
