Pajajaran street is one of the main street in Bogor city which has been famous with a high density of vehicle so it has a of high levels of air pollution potential because of the vehicle emissions. This study was conducted to analysis the effectiveness of plants to absorb pollutants in the road side trees based on an assessment of the physical characteristics of the trees to support the surrounding environment and provide recommendations for increase the ecological function of Pajajaran Bogor road side trees in reducing the air pollution. The method of this study used descriptive analysis, spatial analysis, and air quality analysis used the CITYgreen 5.4. The ecological function evaluation of Pajajaran Bogor road side trees in reducing the air pollution shows there are 958 trees which very appropriate to absorb the air pollution, 238 trees which appropriate to absorb the air pollution, 70 trees which less appropriate to absorb the air pollution, and there is no tree which not appropriate to absorb the air pollution. While the function of absorbing particles evaluation shows there is one tree which very appropriate in absorbing the particles, 1136 trees which appropriate in absorbing the particles, 101 trees which less appropriate in absorbing the particles, and 73 trees which not appropriate in absorbing the particles. The result of analysis used CITYgreen 5.4 shows Pajajaran Street Bogor can reduce pollutants in the amount of 2544 lbs (1,298 ton/year) with economic benefits value by $ 6.268 (Rp75.167.175,12). Pajajaran Street Bogor need to add as many as 485 trees in an area that does not have a tree planting so as to optimally reduce the amount of pollution as much as 1.66 ton/year, equivalent to the economic value of Rp 121 095 216.

The present study aims to evaluate the potential for the pollution of the environment by two herbicides (quizalofop-p-ethyl and cycloxydim), using the Allium test. The species in question is Allium cepa (onion, 2n = 16), one of the most common plant indicators of environmental pollution. The working method consisted of obtaining the meristematic roots of Allium cepa and their treatment with herbicides at three different concentrations (0.5%, 1%, and 1.5%) for each herbicide for 24 h, for comparison with an untreated control. The results obtained from the cytological study indicated a strong cytotoxic and genotoxic effect for both herbicides, but especially for quizalofop-p-ethyl, where the mitotic index decreased from 30.2% (control) to 9.6% for the variant treated with 1.5% herbicide. In this case, a strong mitodepressive effect was shown by a highly significant percentage (35.4%) of chromosomal aberrations and nuclear alterations: stickiness, fragments, C-mitosis, lobulated nucleus, micronuclei, and nuclear erosion. The mitodepressive effect as well as the percentage of chromosomal aberrations increased with a higher herbicide concentration. The obtained results suggest the strong potential for pollution of the two herbicides, particularly at concentrations higher than 0.5%; therefore, we recommend caution in their use to avoid undesirable effects on the environment.

Atmospheric pollution over cities accumulates under light wind or stagnation conditions and, on occasion, may be supplemented by transport from distant sources. These conditions cannot easily be predicted by use of the average weather elements. However, material which is useful to decision-makers who are concerned with air pollution problems can be obtained by presenting the data, as in the case of Durban, South Africa, first in terms of the nature and characteristics of vertical mixing in the lower atmosphere, and secondly in terms of the horizontal transport of air. In this way the nature and characteristics of surface and non-surface inversions and mixingdepths, as well as of macro- and meso-scale atmospheric circulations, can more easily be appreciated. In addition, a measure of the air pollution potential can be obtained from daily maximum mixing-depth and win-speed values.

Big cities in Śląskie Voivodship, especially those from the territory of the former Upper Silesian Industrial District, are characterised by a high level of industrialization, relatively high standard of living and very high level of environmental pollution. The aim of the study described in this paper is to assess the levels of selected types of air pollution in big cities in Śląskie Voivodship and to compare them against chosen reports on the health condition of the population of the voivodship in the years 2014–2016. The study was based on data from the Chief Inspectorate of Environmental Protection and Statistics Poland. The comparison of selected indicators of the health condition of the populations in the studied cities against their levels of air pollution demonstrated that in cities where air pollution reached the highest levels, the values of indicators of mortality were also the highest, whereas the values of indicators of life expectancy of newborn babies were the lowest. The worst situation regarding both the air pollution and health condition was observed in Chorzów, Dąbrowa Górnicza and Rybnik, and the best in Bielsko-Biała and Tychy.

The weather over the eastern two-thirds of the United States was monitored, and air pollution potential forecasts were made and disseminated to affected cities. The experiment allowed for air sampling under a variety of synoptic patterns, and the results strengthen the validity of the previously developed criteria as indicators of prolonged periods of two or more days of high air pollution. Other considerations are indicated for the prediction of isolated days (not prolonged periods) of high pollution.
