n teaching reading, teaching technique and reading interest influence student’s reading comprehension. Tea Party strategy requires students to access background knowledge or review what they have learned to overcome the problems in reading comprehension. The research was conducted to find out the effect of Tea Party strategy and reading interest on students’ reading comprehension of narrative texts. The design of this research was quasi experimental with 2x2 factorial design. The total population of this research was 147 of the first year students at SMA N 12 Pekanbaru 2016/2017 academic year which divided into four classes. Reading comprehension test and reading interest questionnaire were used as research instruments. Then, the data were analyzed using t-test formula and two ways Anova. The result of this research shows that (1) The students who are taught by using Tea Party Strategy have better reading comprehension of narrative text than those who are taught by using Small Group Discussion Strategy. It was proven by result of t-test which showed that tobserved (4.63) was bigger than ttable (1.66), (2) the students with high reading interest who are taught by using Tea Party Strategy have better reading comprehension of narrative text than those who are taught by using Small Group Discussion Strategy, (3) the students with low reading interest who are taught by using Tea Party Strategy have better reading comprehension of narrative text than those who are taught by using Small Group Discussion Strategy, (4) there was no interaction between those strategies and reading interest toward students’ reading comprehension, where Fobserved (0.04) was less than Ftable (4.11). As conclusion, Tea Party strategy had a significant effect on students’ reading comprehension than Small-Group Discussion.

This study investigated the impact of two teaching strategies of cooperative learning; Teams Games Tournaments (TGT) and Student Team Achievement Divisions (STAD) on reading comprehension achievement of Junior High School students with different reading habits. After 34 students in experimental and control class did a pre-test, they were treated by using TGT and STAD. The students were also assigned into two group reading habits; high and low. The experimental group received treatment of TGT whereas the control group was treated by STAD. Then, a post-test was administered, and its results were analyzed through two-way ANOVA. The results revealed that TGT and STAD are effective in improving students’ reading comprehension where F ratio (28.846) ˃ F table (3.99), but on the other side, students’ reading habit, both high and low, cannot affect students' reading comprehension. It was also concluded that there was no interaction effect between teaching strategies and reading habits on students’ reading comprehension. Keywords: teaching strategies, TGT, STAD, reading habit.

This study aimed at discovering the implementation of MODis-ARCS strategy to students’ verbal communication skill and learning outcomes. This study was a quasi-experimental using non- equivalent control group design. Purposive sampling was used to collect the data. There were 65 students of information technology education (control) and physics education (experimental) who used as the samples of study. The MODis-ARCS strategy was implemented on the experimental group, while small group discussion was used in the control group. Data collection techniques used test instrument that was in the form of essay items and non-test which was in the form of observation sheets of communication skill. Validity scores, Cronbach’s coefficient alpha, n-gain, independent sample t-test and paired t-test were used as the data analysis techniques. The results of study indicated that 1) n-gain of students’ learning outcomes and verbal communication skill for the control group was 0.12 and 0.07, in which it was categorized as low, while for the experimental group was 0.29 and 0.48 in the moderate category. 2) Both of groups had similar initial abilities, and there was a difference on the learning outcomes, as well as the verbal communication skill between the control and experimental classes, 3) There was an improvement on the students’ learning outcomes and verbal communication skill on the control and experimental groups, in which the significance value was ɑ=5%; however, the improvement of experimental group was greater than the control group. Therefore, it can be concluded that the MODis-ARCS strategy can improve the students’ verbal communication skill and learning outcomes.

The objectives of this study were to find out whether or not there was a significant improvement before and after the treatment on the eleventh grade students’ reading comprehension scores at one Islamic senior high school in Palembang by using Subtext strategy and to find out whether or not there was a significant difference on the eleventh grade students’ reading comprehension scores between the students who were taught by using Subtext Strategy and those who were not. In this study, Quasi Experimental Design using pretest-posttest nonequivalent groups design was used. There were 60 students taken as sample. Each class consisted of 30 students from class XI IPS 2 as control group and class XI IPS 3 as experimental group. In collecting the data, reading comprehension test was used. The test was given twice to both experimental and control groups, as a pretest and posttest. To verify the hypotheses, the data of pretest and posttest were analyzed by using independent sample t-test and paired sample t-test in SPSS program. The findings showed that the p-output from paired sample t-test (sig2-tailed) was 0.000 which was lower than 0.05 and t-value 11.399 was higher than t-table with df=29 (2.0452).  The result of p-output from independent sample t-test was 0.001 which was lower than 0.05, and the t-value 3.465 was higher than t-table with df=58 (2.0017). It means that teaching reading narrative text by using Subtext strategy had significant effect on the students’ reading comprehension scores.

English prospective teachers should be able to well translate any text used as their teaching materials for both junior and senior high school students. Basically translation is an individual skill, yet it is believed that more heads may gain better results. This research is intended to improve the prospective teachers’ translation quality through a small group discussion. This descriptive qualitative research uses a purposive random sampling technique with a pretest and posttest design. The research result show that the errors are made in translating specific terms used in the passage by 31%, followed by distortion of meaning by 25%, and misspelling or grammatical errors by 22%. As those error results are less than those made in pre-test which are respectively by 55%, 36%, and 26%, it can be concluded that Small Group Discussion used by the prospective teachers in translating the National Examination Text is effective with the highest errors in translating the specified terms available in the text followed by the distortion of meaning, and misspelling/grammatical errors.
