Among the various technologies that boost the production of crop, nutrient management has got an important impact in maximizing the yield. Application of balanced fertilizers alone is not only the solution for this problem, application of residue free nutrients that protects the soil health and environment is very important. Here comes the concept of organic farming. Hence, a field experiment was conducted in the Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, Annamalai University, Annamalai Nagar to study the effect of organic nutrients on growth and physiological parameters of radish. The experiment was conducted with eighteen treatments in three replications and laid out in FRBD design. The treatment includes various sources of organic manures viz., FYM, vermicompost, enriched manure along with and without use of consortium biofertilizer. Biostimulants viz., buttermilk solution and EMI were given as foliar spray at 15 days interval as 2 sprays. The intercultural operations and plant protection measures were carried out as per the recommendation. The results of the experiment revealed that application of farm yard manure @ 25 t ha-1 along with consortium biofertilizer @ 2 Kg ha-1 and EMI @ 1:1000 dilution ha-1 as foliar application recorded the highest growth parameters viz., shoot length, number of leaves and shoot weight. The physiological parameters viz., leaf area and chlorophyll content were recorded the highest in the same treatment T6.

A field experiment was carried out during rabi season of 2018-2019, at college farm, College of Horticulture, Dr. Y.S.R. Horticultural University, Venkataramannagudem, West Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh. The experiment was laidout in a Randomised Block Design with eleven treatments (viz., T1- NAA @ 50 ppm, T2-NAA @ 100 ppm, T3-GA3 @ 50 ppm,  T4-GA3 @ 100 ppm, T5-Thiourea @ 250 ppm, T6-Thiourea @ 500 ppm, T7-28-Homobrassinolide @ 0.1 ppm, T8-28-Homobrassinolide @ 0.2 ppm, T9-Triacontinol @ 2.5 ppm, T10-Triacontinol @ 5 ppm, T11-(Control) Water spray) and three replications. The treatments were imposed at 30 and 45 DAT in the form of foliar spray. Foliar application of GA3@ 100 ppm (T4) had recorded the maximum plant height (108.20 cm), leaf area (9.53 cm2) and leaf area index (0.74). Foliar application of thiourea @ 250 ppm (T5) had recorded the maximum values with respect to number of primary branches (15.03 plant-1), number of secondary branches (83.40 plant-1), plant spread (1793 cm2 plant-1), fresh weight (376.29 g plant-1), dry weight (103.54 g plant-1) and number of leaves plant-1((298.8). The same treatment (T5) had recorded the highest values with respect to crop growth rate (1.44 gm-2d-1), chlorophyll-a (1.40 mg g-1), chlorophyll-b (0.076 mg g-1) and total chlorophyll contents (1.48 mg g-1) in the leaves.

Field experiment was conducted during rice fallow season (January-March), 2011 and 2012 to study the effect of DAP application to preceding rice in last irrigation and foliar nutrition to black gram on the productivity and profitability of black gram(ADT 3) under rice fallow condition. The results indicated that application of DAP at 50 kg/ha to preceding rice in last irrigation and foliar spray of DAP (2 per cent) and KCl (1 per cent) at 30 and 45 days after sowing to black gram registered higher plant height (24.6 cm) at 20 DOS number of pods per plant (18.4), grain yield (639 kg/ha), net returns (Rs.22290/ha) and additional income (Rs. 7563/ha). Application of DAP at 50 kg/ha in last irrigation to preceding rice produced significantly higher grain yield of succeeding black gram (613 kg/ha.) over control (488 kg/ha) which was comparable with foliar application of 2 per cent DAP and 1 per cent KCl to black gram. With reference to return per rupee invested, application of DAP at 50 kg/ha to preceding rice in last irrigation registered higher benefit cost ratio of 3.56 in black gram.

Nitrogen and micronutrients have a key role in many citrus plant enzyme reactions. Although enough micronutrients may be present in the soil, deficiency can develop due to soil depletion or the formation of insoluble compounds. The objectives of this study were to (1) determine the adsorption, distribution, and availability of Zn in a sandy soil; (2) compare the effectiveness of foliar and soil application methods of Zn on Huanglongbing [HLB] affected trees; (3) compare foliar application rates of Zn for HLB-affected trees; (4) determine the effect of N rates on yield, soil inorganic N distribution patterns, and tree growth parameters. Tree rows were supplied with three N rates of 168, 224 and 280 kg·N·ha−1 and Zn at single and double recommended rates (recommended rate = 5.6 kg·Zn·ha−1) using foliar and soil application methods, in a split-plot experimental design. The results show that Zn concentration in the 0–15 cm soil depth was three times higher than the 30–45 and 45–60 cm soil depths during the study. An adsorption study revealed high Zn (KD = 6.5) sorption coefficients at 0–15 cm soil depth, while 30–45 and 45–60 cm depths showed little sorption. Leaf Zn concentration for foliar spray was two times higher than the soil application method. A nitrogen level of 224 kg N ha−1 improved canopy volume when compared to other N levels at the expense of reduced fruit weight. Foliar Zn application at 5.6 or 11.2 kg ha−1 and N rate at 224 kg ha−1 appear to be adequate for improving the performance of HLB-affected citrus trees.

Unilateral use of chemical fertilizers, devoid of organic sources, has led to gradual deterioration of soil health, exacerbating the agricultural productivity. This study focuses on the review the performance, effectiveness and modality of organic manure promotion programmes intervened by MoAD, using secondary datas. Major programmes intervened are: Vermi-compost production, cattle shed improvement, organic fertilizer industries establishment and price subsidy to farmers purchasing organic fertilizers. Study shows that these programs are effective to reduce soil health deterioration by making nutrient rich manure available at local level. Moreover, it has helped to reduce dependency of fertilizers on other countries and to promote sustainable agriculture. Altogether 1495 vermi-compost pits were constructed and 33746 cattle sheds were improved all over the country till FY 2072/73. Converting farm and household organic wastes into organic manure, improvement of the nutrient content of FYM, utilization of cattle urine for plant protection measures were the benefits of these programs. Furthermore, in long run it helps to create green economy by reducing pollution by keeping environment safe and clean.

Plant nutrients both macro and micro plays a major productive and qualitative role in bringing stability and sustainability in the production system particularly in fruits crops like citrus and therefore, effective nutrient management is critical. The aim of our paper is to study the influence of foliar sprays of nutrients on yield and yield attributing characters such as fruit drop, final fruit retention, number of fruits per plant and fruit yield of Kinnow mandarin as appropriate rate, time and method of application of fertilizers in Kinnow are considered to be the major indices in deciding the desired level of productivity and quality of fruits. Therefore, many studies around the world, evaluating the yield and yield attributing characters of Kinnow mandarin with respect to foliar application of nutrients were studied and their results showed that the foliar application were economically viable and beneficial for both Kinnow productivity and environmental sustainability. Hence, for obtaining better fruit yield and minimizing fruit drop with aim to achieve desired level of productivity and improved fruit quality, foliar spray of macro and micronutrients could be used effectively.

The study was conducted in Chellampatti block of Madurai district in Tamil Nadu among 90 vegetable growers to assess the knowledge and extent of adoption of recommended vegetable cultivation practices. Interview schedule was constructed, pre-tested and finalized and used for collecting data. From the findings of the study it could be found that the average knowledge of vegetable farmers on recommended technologies was 74.72 per cent. Method of transplanting, recommended variety and HYV, fertilizer application, weed management, mulching and seed treatment practices were known to the farmers ranging from 75 to 90 per cent. Overall adoption level of farmers on technologies was 55.27 per cent. Soil testing, SHC recommendations, growth regulators, mulching, foliar spray, plant protection measures were having low adoption ranging from 40-48 per cent. Rise in fertilizer and pesticide prices, unavailability of timely and quality inputs, lack of knowledge to identify pest and diseases, lack of communication and training cum demonstrations on improved practices were felt by 35-45 per cent of the farmers as constraints for yield gap. The extension system have to popularize the recommended technological packages in fields through effective training, demonstrations, field visits, monitoring, etc. which helps to reduce yield gaps and thereby increasing the productivity of crops.

Boron is an important micronutrient for growth and development of crop plants. Plant species differ in their requirement of boron for growth. This study was conducted to determine the effect of boron application on the plant characteristics of maize during early leaf stages. The experiments were conducted in Tel – Kaliş agricultural research area at the Mustafa Kemal University in 2015 and 2016 growing seasons. The field experiments were arranged in a split plot design with three replications. Four boron dosages (control, 4, 6 and 8 mg/m2) were applied at three growing stages (V2, V4 and V2V4 (at V2 and V4 stages in two equal parts) as foliar spray. The results revealed that the effects of foliar application of B were positive but statistically insignificant on plant characteristics. Further researches should be conducted for suitable boron application time at different growth stages of maize.

An investigation was carried out to fine tune nutrient management techniques for improving the yield of rice fallow blackgram at the Wetlands of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore in a split plot design. Three fertilizer application practices viz. recommended dose of fertilizer to preceding rice crop, recommended dose of fertilizer (last split through DAP based on N equivalent) to the preceding rice crop and basal application of fertilizer to blackgram of N and P2O5 @ 12.5:25 kg ha-1 (10 days prior to harvest of rice crop) formed the main plot treatments and foliar sprays viz., control, 1% urea, 2% DAP, 1% KCl and 2% DAP + 1% KCl twice at flowering and pod filling stages of crop growth constituted the subplot treatments. The treatments were replicated thrice. The results revealed that basal application of N and P2O5 fertilizers @ 12.5:25 kg ha-1 (10 days prior to harvest of rice crop) to blackgram favoured the nutrient uptake. Similarly the NPK uptake at harvest (64.64, 6.75 and 46.51 kg ha-1) and yield (1037 kg ha-1) were significantly influenced when foliar spray of 2% DAP + 1% KCl was given at flowering and pod filling stages of crop growth. Interaction between basal application of fertilizer N and P2O5 @ 12.5:25 kg ha-1 just before the harvesting of preceding rice crop along with foliar spray of 2% DAP + 1% KCl twice at flowering and pod filling stages was significant for NPK uptake, yield attributes and yield.

Integrated nutrient management (INM) plays an important role to maintain the soil health and improve crop productivity. A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of integrated nitrogen application on transplanted rice. The present investigation was laid out in randomised block design with 10 treatments. Growth parameters like plant height, dry matter accumulation varied significantly among different treatments and the highest value was recorded under the treatment T6 (75% N through fertilizer + 25% N through vermicompost with full dose of P and K). All the yield attributing characters like panicles m-2, grains panicle-1 significantly varied under different treatments. Significantly, higher tiller m-2, grain panicle-1 and panicle length were recorded under T6. Similarly, significantly highest grain yield (4.93 t ha-1) and straw yield (6.01 t ha-1) were observed under T6. Thus, substituting a part of nitrogen fertilizer with organic manure improves soil quality and sustains the crop productivity.

Phosphorus (P) and zinc (Zn) are essential plant nutrients, and their deficiency in soils and the antagonistic effect of P on Zn are important concerns world-over. Thus, a two-year (2012–13 to 2013–14) experimentation was carried out to assess grain yield, nutrient uptake and quality parameters of wheat by various levels of P and Zn. The results revealed that 50% recommended dose of P (RDP) through phospho-enriched compost (PEC) + 50% RDP through fertiliser and soil application of 12.5 kg ZnSO4.7H2O ha−1 + one foliar spray of 0.5% ZnSO4.7H2O recorded significantly higher grain yield (4.81 and 4.61 t ha−1, respectively), straw yield (7.20 and 6.92 t ha−1, respectively) and protein content (11.5% and 11.3%, respectively). The concentrations of Zn in grain (35.6%) and straw (57.3%) were not affected due to organic P application but 100% P through P fertilizer reduced the Zn content in the grains. Both soil and foliar application of Zn were found to be more promising in increasing Zn and Fe concentration in grains (37.5 and 30.9 mg kg−1, respectively) and straw (60.3 and 398 mg kg−1, respectively). Overall, the treatment combination of 50% RDP through PEC + 50% RDP through fertiliser and soil applied 12.5 kg ZnSO4.7H2O ha−1 + one spray of 0.5% Zn was beneficial in reducing antagonistic effect of P on Zn and increasing Zn and Fe concentration in wheat grain and, thus, could be used for improving the yield of Zn and Fe enriched wheat grains.
