Most cultural scientific studies in Colombian organizations have been characterized as being deterministic and by establishing cultural typologies, according to the analysis of internal and external organizational variables. Additionally, most of these studies are oriented towards considering Colombian organizations within modern westernized contexts as the unit of analysis, leaving out of the scientific discussion, the traditional Colombian organizations that have been designed and developed from native perspectives and grounded in the ancient cultures of the country. In contrast, this research defined three indigenous productive organizations as units of analysis to describe and characterize their culture from an interpretative-symbolic perspective, analyzing their own cultural features and components based on the theoretical model of cultural dynamics. The methodology is based on organizational ethnography and cultural analysis of emerging categories. The results show that although there are points where three indigenous productive organizations meet regarding material, intangible and social aspects, every organization has its own cultural characteristics that defines as “indigenous-traditional” or “western-modern”.

Mathematical modelling has often been emphasized at the secondary level, but more research is needed at the elementary level. This paper serves to summarize what is known about elementary mathematical modelling to guide future research. A targeted and general literature search was conducted and studies were summarized based on five categories: content of mathematical modelling intervention, assessment data collected, unit of analysis studied, population, and effectiveness. It was found that there were three main units of analysis into which the studies could be categorized: representational and conceptual competence, models created, and student beliefs. The main findings from each of these units of analysis are discussed along with future research that is needed.

The literature on quality of data, information and knowledge has a tendency to focus on the measurement aspects of such constructs. This implies some emphasis on scale construction. Unfortunately, conceptual clarity is in too many cases not apparent. This chapter advocates for the application of Social Cognitive Theory as a robust theoretical framework in order to understand the quality attributions of data, information and knowledge constructs. The definitions of data, information and knowledge are presented in a hierarchical structure having the data definition as a first order construct, the information definition as a second order construct built upon the data construct, and the knowledge construct as a third order construct built upon the information construct. Furthermore, the definitions of these constructs require considering the unit of analysis individual versus organization. Data has a common definition for both units of analysis. However information and knowledge have different definitions depending on the unit of analysis. Finally, this chapter addresses the quality attribution in the five considered constructs. In line with the current dominant paradigm, quality it is not an absolute assessment as it depends on the considered context and situation.

This article examines the relationship between Rae's fractionalization index and the units of analysis on which it is based. It is shown that as one increases the size of the unit of analysis, the value of the index will increase. An exact mathematical relationship between the mean level of fractionalization for a given set of units and a fractionalization index based upon the aggregate voting totals for the units is established. This relationship shows that the aggregate fractionalization index overestimates the level of interparty competition in a system as measured by the mean level of fractionalization. U.S. congressional elections from 1824 to 1978 are used to indicate the importance of the overestimation by the aggregate fractionalization index.

Patient safety issues continue to be prevalent in delivering care with the electronic health record (EHR) and other health information technology (HIT) tools. Defining the unit of analysis for the study of clinical information systems is important based on the focus of the research. This study applies a conceptual framework with three levels of units of analysis for human-computer interaction (HCI) to identify and guide investigations at each level. Ethnographic observations and semi-structured, key-informant interviews were conducted with 40 healthcare workers across five primary care clinics, nine specialty clinics, and one inpatient ward at a tertiary-care Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC). Two researchers recorded the interactions and interview responses of 40 healthcare workers related to their work with computerized consultations, clinical documentation, and the EHR in general. Patient safety issues from these data were categorized using three different units of analysis: EHR interface-, team coordination / workflow-, and organizational-levels. A total of 30 patient safety issues were identified; 17 emerged from the observation and interview data on computerized consults, 10 from the data on clinical documentation, and 3 were related to the EHR in general. Patient safety issues were organized by level of unit of analysis and mapped to specific methods that could be used for further investigation. Relevant concepts are discussed to help guide investigations at each level.

Culture is something that cannot be separated in daily life. Thus, the importance of cultural preservation has become a major topic in the modern era. Music is a media that can be used to introduce the culture. This study aimed to investigate the Indonesian cultural elements contained in the song of "Lathi" by Weird Genius. This song was selected by the researcher due to its popularity in Indonesia like in Tik Tok, so that it became one of the most sought songs in 2020. To find out the research result accurately, the researcher applied descriptive qualitative method through content analysis approach. Visual, verbal, and instrumental analyses were the main focus of this research. The research result showed several cultural features in the song of “Lathi”. Kuda Lumping, traditional dance, and Wayang Kulit) were found on its choreography. The elements of gamelan instruments and sentences that use Javanese were also present in the song. The song of “Lathi” put the elements of cultural preservation combined with contemporary art works. The result of this research was expected to increase cultural insight and increase the spirit of the younger generation in creating and preserving Indonesian culture.

Twenty five years after the introduction of the concept of “collectivization of science” by Ziman, the importance of the research team continues to suffer of a narrow space, both in scientific literature and in the definition of academic policy. The debate ranges from a macro level, represented by changes in scientific and technological research to micro-analyses on the figure of the individual researcher. Nevertheless the scientific processes are affected by the increasingly multidisciplinary nature and the plurality of actors involved, as well as the social and cultural dynamics, often overlooked if not ignored. Our contribution aims to emphasize the importance of the research groups as the elementary unit of analysis in the definition of policies and for a better governance of universities.

Analysis of the Erosive Vulnerability of the Watershed of the Conquistinha Stream in the West of Minas Gerais, Brazil A B S T R A C TSoil erosion is an indicator of degradation in the physical environment, which causes economic and environmental damage. Given this problem, this research aimed to analyze the erosive vulnerability to the Conquistinha stream watershed in West of Minas Gerais. The methodology of multicriteria analysis, was applied according to literature proposals. In the first stage, the database was prepared with the units of analysis (lithologic components, geomorphological aspects, soils, climatic influence (rainfall), native vegetation with predominant cover), followed by the identification of the formation components of each unit and the attribution of vulnerability values to each component. Subsequently, the individual component values were cross-checked to obtain representative weights for each unit of analysis. Then, the weights obtained for the analysis units were crossed, resulting in erosive vulnerability to the river basin. The results are: high erosive vulnerability (23.43%), medium erosive vulnerability (27.72%), low erosive vulnerability (31.50%), very low erosive vulnerability (17.34%).Keywords: Soil erosion; Analysis units; Multicriteria analysis.

This article is devoted to the study of linguistic and cultural problems of toponymic component phraseologies in French and Uzbek languages. The article pays special attention to the emergence of toponymic component phraseologies on the basis of extralinguistic factors. It examines the national and cultural features of phraseology, their role in enhancing the methodological color of the work of art and the theoretical aspects of the translation of these units, as well as the views of linguists on the linguistic and cultural nature of phraseology. Factors of emergence of toponymic component phraseology in the article 1) phraseology based on socio-historical factors; 2) phraseology, the origin of which is associated with folk art; 3) phraseology related to everyday life, customs and traditions of people; 4) analyzed on the basis of mastered phraseology. Also, a quantitative analysis of the sources of origin of phraseological units with a component of national-cultural toponyms in French and Uzbek languages was conducted. The studied toponymic component phraseologies were studied in their own layer and foreign layer, and their quantitative analysis was carried out. In French and Uzbek, the meaningful objects of phraseological units with a toponymic component are studied separately by linguocultural description.
