The research aims to demonstrate the role of integration between the blue ocean strategy and the value chain in achieving competitive advantage through their application in the International Development Bank, as economic units, including banks, face intense competition at the local and international levels within the contemporary work environment, therefore, they had to prepare and implement new strategies that enable them to withstand the challenges imposed by competition in order to maintain and achieve its goals, as technological developments and market changes stemming from changes in the tastes and desires of customers have led to the development of these strategies, including the blue ocean strategy, which derives its name from the concept of blue oceans, which are calm and clear because they are far from the atmosphere of competition. This strategy is implemented through its four dimensions (reduction, exclusion, increase, innovation). Nevertheless, to apply these dimensions, the value chain contributes to the analysis of activities into value-adding and non-value-adding activities, thus applying the dimensions of strategy at the level of each activity in order to achieve value for the economic unit and the customer. Furthermore, the research reached a set of conclusions, the most important of which is the integration between the blue ocean strategy and the value chain, a framework that contributes to reducing and excluding costs for activities that do not add value, in addition to creating advanced banking services for customers that achieve a competitive advantage for the bank.

Information technology (IT) has assumed an important position in the strategic functioning of leading companies in competitive markets (Porter, 2001). Particularly, e-commerce and e-business have been highlighted among IT applications (Porter, 2001). Two basic points of view can be used for understanding the role of IT: the acquisition of a competitive advantage at the value chain and the creation and enhancement of core competencies (Porter & Millar, 1985; Duhan et al., 2001).

Research on social and environmental accounting (SEA) has mainly concentrated on disclosure of SEA by corporate bodies, where investigations on ones attitude towards SEA are rarely discussed. SEA is a medium that develops relationships between business and society, community and nature. In addition, SEA involves a concept of sustain ability; where natural resources need to be sustained for the needs of future generations (Alhabshi et al., 2003). SEA also tries to recognise the role of accounting in sustainable development and the use of environmental resources. There are arguments that the young generations today are not fully aware of preserving these natural resources as well as handling social and environmental issues wisely. This perhaps link closely to their belief and cultural background. Hence, this paper examines the influence of gender and belief factors on the undergraduate students’ attitude towards SEA. Four dimensions of belief (fixed ability, quick learning, simple knowledge and certain knowledge) proposed by Schommer (2005) were adapted to analyse how belief factors have influence on their attitude towards SEA. An independent sample t-test was used to examine the relationship between gender and students’ attitude towards SEA. Spearmen’s correlation was employed to show the relationship between belief and attitude towards SEA. The results revealed that gender differences did not show influences on their attitude towards SEA. It was found that there is a significant relationship between belief and students’ attitude towards SEA. Students who believe on the importance of SEA tend to report positive attitude towards SEA. Perhaps findings of this study may provide some information on the SEA education and further be incorporated in the syllabus.

Innovation is seen as a competitive advantage that many companies use to ensure the continuity and success of your business.NP 4457:2007 is the Portuguese norm that supports management, based on a model of innovation backed up by interfaces and interaction between technical/scientific knowledge, its specific mechanisms and the overall society. Our paper aims to analyse innovation activities and the involvement of human resources in Portuguese firms certified by NP4457 and associated to the implementation of Research, Development, and Innovation (RD&I) management systems. We have collected the data through IPAC’s database, using a survey administered to all firms. Our results suggest the existence of a Human Resources (HR) involvement policy, customers and suppliers. The involvement of stakeholders with innovation activities results of its acceptance as a mechanism able to generate wealth, with benefits for both firms and the community.
