This work consists of the characteristics of production, assessment of the qualitative and quantitative composition of water, consideration of the process of water purification in the chemical shop, comparison and selection of coagulants and flocculants, and demonstration of the most affordable technology used at the CHPP which increases the efficiency of source water purification. The problem of pretreatment of the source water has always been relevant. The quality of the water used depends on the operation of boilers and turbines at the CHPP. The paper presents the average annual indicators of the quality of the source water, pre-treatment methods, and considers which reagents that do not require the cost of reconstruction of clarifiers can improve their performance. The initial water after the application of the test samples of coagulants and flocculants was studied. Conclusions are drawn about the work of clarifiers after the use of the proposed reagents.

Among the methods used, the most effective, from the point of view of the quality of cleaning from the main harmful substances, is catalytic neutralization. The effectiveness of using this method is largely determined by the properties and characteristics of the used catalytic material. Selection of the appropriate composition determines the provision of physical, physico-mechanical and corrosive properties of the used catalytic materials. In this regard, the possibilities of using steel oxide and molding clay as basic components in the charge of the material were studied. In order to reduce the cost of the treatment system, the possibility of replacing valuable expensive components with ore mills of the appropriate composition was considered. As a result of the studies, the optimal qualitative and quantitative composition of the charge of the catalytic material was determined.

Water treatment in Indonesia still uses coagulant to reduce the contaminant. Therefore, an infiltration gallery is required as the pre-treatment before conventional water treatment conducted. Infiltration gallery is a natural technology for absorbing or filtrating the contaminant. The hydraulic conductivity plays the main role in soil filtration. There are many types of soil with different hydraulic conductivities. In infiltration gallery method it is important to identify the hydraulic conductivity value as the preliminary analysis because it is the important indicator to show the ability of soil to flow the water from one side to other sides when filtrating the contaminant. The slower the conductivity is, the better the quality of the water will be. The method used in this study was the Constant head Permeameter. The result of this study shows that the same type of soil type has different hydraulic conductivities.

Abstract The proper selection of tolerances is an important part of mechanical design that can have a significant impact on the cost and quality of the final product. Yet, despite their importance, current techniques for tolerance design are rather primitive and often based on experience and trial and error. Better tolerance design methods have been proposed but are seldom used because of the difficulty in formulating the necessary design equations for practical problems. In this paper we propose a technique for the automatic formulation of the design equations, or design functions, which is based on the use of solid models and variational geometry. A prototype system has been developed which can model conventional and statistical tolernaces, and a limited set of geometric tolerances. The prototype system is limited to the modeling of single parts, but can perform both a worst case analysis and a statistical analysis. Results on several simple parts with known characteristics are presented which demonstrate the accuracy of the system and the types of analysis it can perform. The paper concludes with a discussion of extensions to the prototype system to a broader range of geometry and the handling of assemblies.

The quality of surface water in Jakarta is on a serious polluted status. In order to reduce the Water Treatment processing load, a pre-treatment process is needed to eliminate parameters such as organic matter, ammonia, color, taste, and odor. This treatment generally uses chemical and physical processes, such as chlorination and activated carbon that produce harmful byproducts. Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) is one of the solutions developed to reduce the nutrient and organic levels in raw water. This study aims to improve the quality of raw water, by reducing the concentration of COD, NH3-N, Phosphate, and TSS before entering the conventional process. Reactor performance is assessed based on contaminant removal efficiency with variation of residence time (1 hour, 1.5 hours, 2 hours). The reactor is operated by using Kaldness K1 as the medium and oxygen supply of 7 L/min. The optimum residence time is 1,5 hours with the ability to remove COD, NH3-N, Phosphate, TSS 51.8% ± 0.2; 54.3% ± 0.28; 52.6% ± 0.19; and 77.7% ± 0.14 respectively. Based on the optimum residence time, the kinetics of the ammonia removal rate in MBBR takes place at zero order, with a rate constant removal of 0.0056 g/m2.day. The results showed that the higher concentration of ammonia, and organic contaminants treated, the higher the efficiency of MBBR. Apart from water quality improvement, pre-treatment process using MBBR can reduce coagulant dose from 50 mg/L to 9 mg/L, to decrease raw water turbidity from 135 NTU to 0.68 NTU before entering the coagulation-flocculation unit.

Currently, attention is paid to the intensification of the process of natural and wastewater treatment, improvement of technology, development of new effective methods of intensification of water treatment. This will simplify the existing technology of water treatment, reduce labor-intensive processes of preparation and dosing of reagents, reduce the cost of operating treatment plants, increase their productivity, improve quality and reduce the cost of treated water. Treatment of water with a modified coagulant solution allows to increase the hydraulic size of the coagulated suspension. The strongest effect of the modified coagulant solution has on the hydraulic suspension size of 0.2 mm/s and less, i.e. the smallest and the suspension, which is difficult to remove, which creates conditions for more intensive sedimentation in settling tanks and improve the quality of water clarification and fed to fast filters. It has been experimentally determined that the treatment of water with a modified solution of aluminum sulfate coagulant should be performed when the content of suspended solids in the clarified water is up to 100–150 mg / dm3. The color of the clarified water during treatment with a modified solution of aluminum sulfate coagulant does not depend on the content of suspended solids and is 1.5-1.6 times lower than the color than when using a conventional coagulant solution. It is established that the use of a modified solution of aluminum sulfate coagulant in water purification can reduce the residual aluminum content in clarified water by an average of 50-60%. The results of researches of the modified solutions of reagents which are used at preparation of drinking water are presented. It is established that water treatment with a modified solution of aluminum sulfate coagulant allows to improve the quality of drinking water preparation by suspended solids, color, reduce the content of aluminum salts in the clarified water, thereby increasing the environmental safety of drinking water.

Source water polluted by algae, ammonium and organic matter has been studied for many years. Sudden pollution incidents of source water have been reported across the whole country. Seasonal variability of rainfall across China has resulted in floods or droughts, thus incurred the high concentration of algae, ammonium and organic matter, causing severe challenges to the conventional water purification facilities. However, the conventional water treatment process is often unavailable to keep the safety of source water for drinking when sudden pollution occurs. Meanwhile, byproducts are often to be found over the whole treatment process, it is high time that researchers took effective measures to deal with this problem. In the present work, an overview of the recent research dealing with source water suddenly polluted by algae, ammonium and organic matter is presented.

In the market of building materials today there is a large selection of various thermal insulation materials, differing in cost, thermal conductivity and other characteristics. This article describes the predictive model of the cost of insulation from thermal characteristics, such as: thickness, thermal conductivity, (average) density, water absorption and combustibility group. The coefficient of determination was used to assess the quality of the obtained economic-mathematical model. The described predictive model can be effectively used to solve problems associated with determining the optimal characteristics of insulation by the criterion of minimizing cost.
