All fields of life have implemented sophisticated technology, including agriculture, food processing, the automotive industry, and even entertainment. Technological competition actually has positive and negative impacts such as unemployment, cold war between countries, and terrorism. To follow news of the development of a country is actually very easy. The news can be seen on the web, social media and TV. One of the easiest is TV. To be able to follow the development of other countries through TV, can be seen through foreign TV channels. Some of the famous ones are NHK, Channel News Asia, France24, DW, Aljazeera, and Russia Today. This study aims to determine the process of teaching English using satellite TV and whether the use of satellite TV media can improve the students’ English mastery. This study uses a Class Research (CAR) approach. The implementation model in this study uses four steps: identifying problems and planning actions; implementing actions and observing or monitoring actions; reflection of the results of observations; and revise plans for the next step. This research uses 2 cycles in the learning process. The subjects of this study were third semester students of the English Education Study Program at NU University, Sunan Giri Bojonegoro in the academic year of 2019/2020. This research was carried out in the room U8 of NU University, Sunan Giri Bojonegoro. The results of this study are: In the pre-test, the number of students who passed a total of 6 students (17.14%) with an average score of 63.71. In the first cycle, the number of students who passed was 19 students (54.28%) with an average score of 73. In the second cycle, the number of students who passed was 33 students (94.28%) with an average score of 78.43. This research was done to know the factors’ influencing students’ motivation to speak in a group discussion. This research is qualitative survey, in which the subjects are the Third-Semester Students of English Education Study Program of Tanjungpura University in Academic Year 2018/2019. The subjects of this research were 25 students in class A. The data were collected through observation and survey. Based on the data the students are motivated enough in speaking class and the motivation are relatively high across the students but most of the students faced several speaking problems such as afraid of making mistakes, lack of confidence, and lack of motivation. In summary, the factors that influenced the students’ motivation to speak in a group discussion are the students' interest to the materials of learning, the students’ interest to the culture of the target language, and lastly the reinforced that the students receive inside/outside the teaching and learning process. All of the factors are related to types of motivation, such as, intrinsic, extrinsic, instrumental, and integrative motivation. The writer claimed that knowing and understand sorts of motivation is essential with the intention of making a better teaching and learning environment

Collocation is a natural order of words in which one word should be attached to another in a particular context. For students who learn English as a foreign language (EFL students), using collocations has been recognized to become a problem. This article is going to describe EFL college students’ skill in using collocations in writing essays. 42 students from the same class were selected. They were the 4th semester students of English Education Study Program at Teacher Training and Education Faculty of UMRAH who took Essay Writing course in the academic year 2019/ 2020. The students were given a take-home assignment to write essays. Then, the essays were analyzed to find out the students’ skill in using collocations. It was found that in using collocation in writing essays, 5 students had excellent skill, 14 students had good skill, and 23 students had low skill. The incorrect use of collocations consisted of lexical and grammatical collocations. Finally, it is hoped that these findings could be a useful input for future Essay Writing course.

The objectives of this study were (1) to describe the students’ Reading habit, multiple intelligences, and writing mastery, (2) to find out whether or not there was significant correlation among the students’ Reading habit, multiple intelligences, and writing mastery, and (3) to find out whether or not the students’ Reading habit and multiple intelligences contributed to their writing mastery. In this study, 76 undergraduate EFL students of English Education Study Program of Sriwijaya University in the academic year 2017/2018 were chosen as a samples by means of purposive sampling. This study applied correlational research design. The data were collected by using questionnaires and test, and were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment correlation coefficient and regression analysis. The results showed that (1) most of the students (50%)  were in the average level of reading habit; most of the students (15.7%) had six dominant intelligences; most of the students (57.8%) were in the good level of writing mastery; (2) reading attitude was the only habit which had a negative and significant correlation to the students’ writing mastery (r= -271, p< 0.018); reading attitude also had positive and negative and significant correlation to the students’ ideas  (r= 0.367, p< 0.001) and thesis voice audience (r= -0.236, p=< 0.040); logical intelligence was the only intelligence which had negative and significant correlation to the students’ writing mastery (r= -0.238, p= 0.038); ideas was the only the aspect of writing had a positive  and significant correlation to the students’ logical intelligence (r= 0.267, p= 0.020) and intrapersonal intelligence (r= 0.250, p= 0.029); (3) reading attitude became the best predictor and influenced the students’ writing mastery with 7.3% contribution (R2 = 0.073).

This present study tries to investigate the students’ writing performance to know whether interlanguage fossilization is occurs or not. The primary goal of this research is to give information relating interlanguage fossilization in students’ writing performance of English Education Study Program of IAIN Jurai Siwo Metro. This research is qualitative research. It is used to describe interlanguage fossilization that occurred in students’ writing performance. The writer uses observation, documentation and interview to collect the data. Purposive sampling is the technique for choosing the ten students of the sixth and the eight semester of English Education Study Program of IAIN Jurai Siwo Metro in the Academic Year of 2017/2018. The result of this research shows that there are two types of interlanguage fossilization that are commonly produced by students’ writing performance. They are syntactical fossilization and morphological fossilization. Syntactical fossilization consists of 71, 86% and morphological fossilization consists of 28, 14%.  Moreover, interlanguage fossilization phenomenon in students’ writing performance is caused by the students’ low English proficiency. Therefore, the students should be more active to improve their English ability.

The obejectives of this research are to know the improvement  of the students’ achievement in poetry mastery and their perception regarding to the semiotic method in teaching and learning poetry in  English Education Department, Languages and Art Faculty of State University of Medan. The research method used is the Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subjects of the research are the fifth semester of 37 students of 2013/2014 academic year. The data are collected by test in order to know the students’ achievment in poetry mastery. The students’ perception toward the implementation of the semiotic method for teaching and learning poetry is collected by questionaire. The data are analyzed by descriptive analysis. The result of research shows that (1) the average score of the students’ achievement of poetry mastery is (71.75) or it increases (11,59) point from pre-test (60.16) and (2) in general, the students’ perception toward the semiotic method for teaching and learning poetry are good and positive.

The aim of this research was to find out the strategies used by the English Education Study Program students in responding teacher oral questions. The research was designed as a descriptive quantitative research. The population of the research was sixth semester students of English Education Study Program of Universitas Bengkulu in the 2017/2018 academic year. The samples were 69 students. The data were collected by using a set of questionnaire. There were 25 statements of responses strategies which consisted of seven categories of response strategies proposed by Lui et. al (2018) and any communication strategies proposed by Dornyei (1997). They were avoidance strategy, accommodative strategy, asking for clarification strategy, no response strategy, excuse strategy, denial strategy and apology strategy. The result of this study showed that students of English Education Study Program preferred to use six categories i.e., accommodative strategy, asking for clarification strategy, no response strategy, excuse strategy, and denial strategy and one was seldom used namely apology strategy. In addition, the most frequently used strategy group by the students was avoidance strategy.

This research aims to investigate factors affecting willingness to communicate in English in social media. This research was conducted in a descriptive method framework. Specifically, the research described factors that affect students' willingness to communicate in English in social media at English study program at the fourth semester of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu academic year 2018. The subjects of this research were fourth-semester students of English Education study program of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu Academic Year 2018 consisted of class A, B, and C.  The populations of the study were 77 students. The instruments used were questionnaire and interview. The data obtained from both questionnaire and interview were then analyzed by the process of checking, classifying, determining, and analyzing the data by using the percentage formula. The results of the study showed that there were five factors affecting willingness to communicate in English in social media. They were self-confidence, personality, motivation, attitude, and anxiety. The dominant factor was motivation since it had the highest percentage. In addition, the study also revealed some reasons why students have the willingness to communicate through social media.

The objectives of this study were to find out (1) the completeness of the students’ comments on Facebook, (2) the quality of the students’ comments, and (3) the percentage of how well the students identified the characters of a good paragraph. The population of this study was the fourth-semester Palembang class students of English Education Study Program 2013 of Sriwijaya University. The sample of the study was 48 students that were selected by using total sampling technique. The data were collected from the students’ comments on Facebook of Writing II class in the academic year 2015 and analyzed by using two rubrics containing scoring systems. The results showed that the completeness in giving comments on the Facebook group could be categorized into a very good category with the final score was 10. While, the quality of the comment from the students was also Good with the final score was 15.56. The percentage of how well the students identified the characters of a good paragraph was 83.33% in very good level, 10.41 % in good level and 6.25 % in average level. Overall, the final score of the students’ comments from those three research questions were average with the score was 9.85. It can be concluded that the students’ comments on Facebook Comment Column in Writing II Class in the academic year 2015 was average. Keywords: academic writing; Facebook; peer comments

The objectives of this research are to identify the perception toward schema theory that used in reading class on the fifth semester students of English Education Study Program of FKIP UNIB in academic year 2010/2011. The population of this research was the fifth semester students of English Education Program of FKIP UNIB in academic year 2010/2011. The population of this study was the whole fifth semester students of English Study Program of Bengkulu University for academic year 2010 – 2011 which consist of 38 students. The sample of this study used total sampling technique. This study was a descriptive study. The instrument of this study was questionnaire. The questionnaire consists of 25 items that purpose to measure students’ perception toward schema theory. The result of this research show that the schema theory  had  86,50%  positive  perception,  12,30%  neutral  perception  and  1,20%  negative perception. It displayed that the respondents had high positive perception toward schema theory. It means that most of the students agree with the application of schema theory as a learning style in the fifth semester students of English Education Program of FKIP UNIB in academic year 2010/2011.
