Purpose. Description of various clinical forms of amblyopia and the effectiveness of their treatment in children. Material and methods. 242 children from 3 to 18 years old were examined: 110 boys (45.5%) and 132 girls (54.5%). The scope of visual examinations included the following: visometry (Tomey TCP-1000 LED), autorefractometry (Tomey TR-4000), keratometry (Pentacam), determination of the nature of visual fixation (HEINEBETA 200S manual ophthalmoscope). Results and conclusion. The approaches to treatment, depending on the underlying pathology, can be functional, surgical and combined. Functional treatment is indicated for amblyopia associated with concomitant strabismus (especially monolateral) and ametropia without improvement in correction. Surgery is very effective in relieving obscuration amblyopia (cataract extraction with IOL implantation, keratoconus with crosslinking). To find out the ability of Orobanche seeds to germinate immediately after seed set, seeds were germinated periodically at an interval of three months for one year in GR24. Some Orobanche seeds were capable of germination immediately after seed set but most required about nine months as after ripening or incubation period to be able to germinate. The phenomenon of after ripening in Orobanche seeds could be taken as an ecological measure to dormant over following unfavorable wet summer season. The growth hormone studies on Orobanche seed germination have shown that GA3 at a concentration of 100 ppm substantially enhanced seed germination when applied during pre-conditioning period. NAA showed some stimulatory effect at 0.5 - 1.0 ppm when applied during post-conditioning period but the hormone if applied during pre-conditioning period inhibited the germination. Method of calculating the index of crisis of gratification has been developed on the basis of the complete survey of 995 students of medical university and 804 students of engineering university, determination of clinical and social parameters and factors related to the process of education in the specialized university. It included: a scale for the assessment of the degree of intellectual intensity, academic performance, stress situations related to the peculiarities of education. Reliable differences in values between groups of healthy students, students with preclinical and clinical forms of mental disorders are revealed as a result of calculation of the index of gratification. The authors conclude that satisfaction with the results of education has a significant impact on the mental health of university students.

Determination of oxalate-extractable Si and Al is useful in assessing the degree of accumulation of allophane-like materials in Podzolic soils. Three procedures were tested for determining Si: manual spectrophotometry, automated spectrophotometry and atomic absorption. For concentrations of oxalate-extractable Si above 0.5 g kg−1, there was no significant difference among results by the three procedures. For lower concentrations of Si, results by atomic absorption were higher than those by the spectrophotometric procedures. Determination by Si by autoanalyzer is the preferred procedure as it is convenient, sensitive and reliable. Key words: Oxalate Si, Podzolic soil, autoanalyzer

Seed of four grass species was re-hydrated to 11 pre-determined moisture concentrations ranging from 100 to 600 g kg-1 fresh weight ( FW) to simulate seed maturation during swathing and combining. The performance characteristics of three thermogravimetric and two electronic capacitance methods of moisture determination were evaluated. The thermogravimetric methods had no moisture range limitations and were, in general, more accurate than the electronic methods. The thermogravimetric Koster tester is suitable for grass seeds of all moisture concentrations, and can be easily adapted for use at field sites. The John Deere Moisture- Chek electronic tester is suitable for the rapid determination of moisture in grass seeds but is limited to concentrations of 80–250 g kg-1 FW. The study of 30 patients was performed at Lahore General Hospital, and Institute Of Ophthalmology Mayo Hospital, Lahore from June 1989 to June 2003 for 14 years. Total number of eyes were 34 where 2 patients had both eyes. Age ranged from 12-65 years. Males were 11 and females were 19. all the patients had planned extracapsular cataract extraction with IOL implantation. Total follow up period ranged from 1-5 years and best corrected visual acuity in these patients after surgery was 6/12 to 6/6. Post operatively, eyes had vitreous membranes and glaucomatous reaction.
