Canada’s high school graduation rates are still low when compared to other members of the OECD. Previous studies have found academic involvement is associated with positive trajectories toward graduation, that social support promotes student engagement, and that school belonging could mediate this relationship. Still, little is known about the specificity of such mediation, especially in Québec. Therefore, this study examined the role of belonging as mediator of the relationship between social support and academic involvement. Participants ( N = 238) were high-school students from the Greater Montréal Area. All variables were measured by the School-Climate Questionnaire. Results from hierarchical multiple regressions indicated parental support had a direct relationship, whereas peer and teacher support had a mediated relationship by school belonging with academic involvement. Results highlight the critical role of school belonging in promoting academic involvement in relation to social support.

The result met the test paired T test statistical significance level 0 and T test result of 0.05 shows that the two variables p-value of p=0.00000. Correlation tests showed that there is a relationship between two variables at-0616. This sign (-) means that the test results are negative correlation. Can be seen if the correlation between the two variables is quite high between 0.50 to 1.0 can be concluded that the direction of the relationship between the two variables is negative. These results can be displayed from "if the family provides a strict upbringing will influence behavior in high school brawls in Adolescents will tend to be low and vice versa".

The sample of study consists of randomly selected 505 high school students (215 female and 290 male) attending state schools in the province of İstanbul in 2016-2017 academic year. “Physical Education Course Sportspersonship Behavior Scale”, “Respect Scale” and personal information form created by the researcher were used in the study. It was found that the scales was valid and reliable and could be used for high school students. Sportsmanship behaviors significantly differed according to the gender of the students (in favor of the girls), the grade (in favor of 10th grade), school success (in favor of good level) and the type of sports most interested (in favor of physically noncontact sports). It was understood that the scale scores of the students are not significantly different according to the family economic conditions. It was found that physical education course sportspersonship behaviors (Realization of Positive Behavior, Avoidance from Negative Behavior) are significantly related to respect levels (Cosmopolitanism, Communitarianism) positively. And it was seen that the level of respect was a significant predictor of the sportsmanship of the students. It is believed that the implementation of activities aimed at improving the level of respect in schools will be helpful in improving sportsmanship behaviors.

Data were analyzed by using the family assessment questionnaire (FAD) and t test, multivariate regression, phi, Kendall’s tau, and variance analysis. Findings, showed that there is a positive relationship with (0/001) alpha with respect to the efficiency of the family (except for the subscale of problem – solving) among successful and unsuccessful students. The relationship of each of the demographic variables (parents’ education levels, educational major, and age) was a significant relationship on the effectiveness of the family.
