This research was motivated by several reasons: (1) there was a misconception of some elementary school geometry materials that were considered essential; (2) the form of evaluation given was dominantly objective/multiple choice; (3) teachers' teaching methods tend not to be contextual; and (4) students' way of thinking simply to take the practical one. Through this research, it is expected to obtain information about: geometrical reasoning in elementary schools according to Bruner's theory, problem solving and mathematical representations. Theresearch was conducted in a descriptive analytic form, with the following steps: (1) giving questions for the geometry reasoning test for SMP; (2) analyzing answers according to the criteria of reasoning; and (3) mapping students' answers to the results of the analysis according to the profile criteria. The data obtained were analyzed, and the results were described to illustrate the condition of the geometric reasoning abilities of elementary school students. Theresults obtained in this study were: (1) The Mastery of the concept of geometry in each junior high school/equivalent. The target with the acquisition of an average score from all schools was 55, which was quite low because there were some students who did not master the concept of geometry and there were other mathematical concepts related to solving test questions; (2) There was no significant difference in the mastery of geometry concepts for male or femalestudents for each SMP/equivalent target, except for one school, namely SMP Negeri 17, which was because males are superior to females in three questions with a difference in the percentage of numbers of significantly correct; (3) The mastery of geometry concepts in each junior high school. The target of studying each geometry material was considered good, except for question number 1 with the subject of the Pythagorean Theorem, because students were dominant in not being able to use the relationship between concepts, especially the operation ofthe compounding form and the roots.

Learning media in Mathematics by using Microsoft Excel software that assisted Visual Basic application is a tool that can be applied for a more interactive visualization so that students better understand about mathematical concepts. Microsoft Excel is a software that serves to process data in the form of numbers that are always associated with mathematical commands. In addition, the functions of commands in Microsoft Excel can be applied in various fields such as Statistics, Economics and Finance, Mathematical Logic, and Engineering. If using mathematical concepts with data processing. But it is not just a number, it can also be used to process objects on shapes or drawings on images. This, of course, requires a function other than the mathematical functions of Visual Basic Applications, which can make math tools more interesting. The advantages of Microsoft Excel with Visual Basic for Application (VBA) are (1) the images are more interactive with different sizes and can make more; (2) more economical; (3)saving time; (4)the software is easy to find, and (5)improving students 'understanding of mathematical concepts and foster students' sense of trust, especially in junior high school students.

This study emphasizes student-centered learning principles in developing an algal fuel cell teaching module for a student environmental education program. Using the algal battery, one of the authors (a junior high school science teacher) conducted the teaching module in eight classes, with 67 elementary school students in grade 5, 64 junior high school students in grade 8, and 159 senior high school students in grade 10, respectively. Results from the pre- and post- achievement tests of the algal fuel cell teaching module showed that the average score of elementary school, senior high school, and junior high school students increased by 23.73, 18.09, and 17.42 points, respectively, with a significant difference between post- and pretest scores (p<0.001). The gross average of student responses to the questionnaire was 4.04. The mean score for elementary school students significantly differed (p<0.01) from junior high and senior high school students.

Objective We investigated scoliosis incidence among junior high school students in Zhongshan city, Guangdong, China and the expression of miR-30e among those with scoliosis. Methods A total 41,258 students were included. From July 2015 to December 2017, all students underwent screening including routine observation of the standing and sitting posture, Adam's forward bend test, dorsal tilt angle measurement, and X-ray examination. Age, sex, height, weight, and body mass index (BMI) were recorded. Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction was used to assess miR-30e expression among students with scoliosis and 200 healthy students. Results Overall, 743 students were diagnosed with scoliosis, with an incidence rate of 1.80%. A total 646 (86.9%) students were diagnosed with idiopathic scoliosis, 38 (5.1%) with congenital scoliosis, and 59 (7.9%) with other scoliosis types. Compared with healthy students, height was significantly greater whereas weight and BMI were significantly lower among students with scoliosis, and expression of miR-30e was significantly lower. However, no significant difference was found in height, weight, BMI, and mean Cobb angle between high/low miR-30e groups. Conclusion The incidence rate for scoliosis was 1.80%, Compared with healthy students, those with scoliosis were taller, had lower weight and BMI, and miR-30e expression was significantly downregulated.

&lt;p&gt;Focusing on the number of the word &amp;#8220;soil&amp;#8221; in the field of science in the national guideline of Japan, it has been decreasing almost every ten years. Also, soil is taught inorganically and organic aspect is not treated in the field of science of the recent curriculum (Hirai et al. 2011). On the other hand, as urbanization is proceeding, people are gathering into city where the places with soil are scarce. Under such circumstances it would be important to analyze an interest and recognition of necessity on soil of elementary school pupils and junior high school students who are engaged with the present educational guideline. Therefore, soil education committee of Japanese Society of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition made a decision to conduct a questionnaire survey on soil in 2015. The questions in the questionnaire are; Q1. Are there places with soil around where you live, such as a rice field, forest, park or garden? Q2. Would you like to have places with soil around where you live? Q3. If you replied that you preferred to have a place with soil, what are your reasons? Q4. If you answered that you preferred not to have places with soil around in Q2, what are your reasons? Q5. In what situations have you touched soil? Q6. Circle all of the functions of soil that you think are useful in the lives of people, animals and plants which you are familiar with. Q7. Would you like to know more about soil? After the questionnaire survey, it was revealed that the questionnaire was answered by 5,396 pupils in the elementary schools and 3,472 students in the junior high schools. The results were partly summarized as follows: 1) The percentage of those who replied &amp;#8220;I would like to have as many as possible&amp;#8221; for Q2 decreased with increasing grade. The highest value was 48.3 % of 1&lt;sup&gt;st&lt;/sup&gt; grader of elementary school, while the lowest was 27.5 % of 3&lt;sup&gt;rd&lt;/sup&gt; grader of junior high school. The recognition of necessity on soil would be decreasing with increasing age. 2) The percentage of those who replied Q5 with &amp;#8220;When working with flower pots&amp;#8221; decreased with increasing grade. The highest value was 71.0 % of 1&lt;sup&gt;st&lt;/sup&gt; grader of the elementary school, while the lowest was 23.1 % of 3&lt;sup&gt;rd&lt;/sup&gt; grader of junior high school. Moreover, almost the same tendency was observed for &amp;#8220;When taking a class at school&amp;#8221;, that is, the highest value was 69.6 % of 1&lt;sup&gt;st&lt;/sup&gt; grader of elementary school, while the lowest was 27.1 of 3&lt;sup&gt;rd&lt;/sup&gt; grader of junior high school. 3) The percentage of those who replied &amp;#8220;I would like to know as much as possible about soil&amp;#8221; for Q7 decreased with increasing age. The highest value was 66.1 % of 2&lt;sup&gt;nd&lt;/sup&gt; grader of elementary school, while the lowest value was 14.5 % of 3&lt;sup&gt;rd&lt;/sup&gt; grader of junior high school.&lt;/p&gt;

Form I of the Children's Version of Onomatopoeia and Images was administered to 107 elementary school students and Form II to 100 junior high school students. Their responses to 4 presentations of 5 verbal stimuli showed progressive mean gains in originality scores with the greatest gains occurring on the first repetition.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of affective and cognitive empathy with traditional and cyber bullying/victimization experiences among Greek participants who attended the fifth and sixth grade of elementary school (n=126), junior high school (n=140), and senior high school (n=157). Overall, results indicated negative correlations of empathy (especially affective) with traditional and cyber bullying/victimization. Negative correlations were particularly observed among elementary school participants, while affective empathy was found to be negatively related to bullying involvement, especially among girls. Overall, empathy (especially affective) may not be sufficiently developed among elementary school students, thus precluding them from understanding and caring about others' emotional state. The negative correlation of empathy and cyber-bullying among junior high school participants might be related to the characteristics of computer mediated communication. Implications of the findings are discussed.

This research is motivated by the level of junior high school students' mathematical problem solving was still low. Based on the preliminary study which conducted by one of the schools in Batam shows the average score for mathematics was 62 for 100 scale. The purpose of this study is to obtain and investigate the improvement of students' problem-solving mastery on relations and functions material as the effect of  PAKEM model. The research method which used is pre-experiment and with one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of this study were VIII grade students of one of the first junior school in Batam at odd semester 2015-2016 academic year, totally 32 students.  Sample of this research were taken by random sampling technique. Students’ problem solving mastery was measured by using problem-solving test, whereas the students’ problem-solving mastery improvement between before and after the concept of effect size implementation was calculated to find the effect size of applying the PAKEM model. The result showed that the effect size of applying the PAKEM model on improving problem solving mastery is 3.3, it means, the PAKEM model implementation on improving problem-solving mastery on function has a strong influence. It can be concluded that the PAKEM model implementation can improve problem solving mastery.

The purpose of this study was to obtain an overview of the mathematical connections of junior high school students on the concepts of ratio and proportion. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with data triangulation. The research participants were four junior high school students in Sukabumi. The instrument used in this study consisted of a description test of three questions that had been consulted with experts and based on considerations regarding indicators of mathematical connection ability. Based on the results of the study, it is known that the ability of students to recognize and use connections between mathematical ideas is 50%, the ability of students to connect and apply mathematical concepts with other disciplines is 50%, and the ability of students to connect and apply mathematical concepts to problems in everyday life with a percentage of 50%. The results showed that the mathematical connection ability of some junior high school students in Sukabumi on the concept of comparison was included in the poor category.
