Nitrogen-doped carbon-rich 2D materials, such as functionalized graphene and aza-fused π-conjugated porous polymers have achieved superior performance in electrocatalysis and energy storage, in which defects or nitrogen atoms work as the active centers or binding sites for active metals. However, realizing one-atom-thick of these 2D materials with controllable morphology and nitrogen-doping as well as high thermal/chemical stability and band gap is still challenging, while these properties of 2D materials not only expose more accessible active centers to maximize their surface compared to the stacked ones, but also minimize other impact on their applications compared with modified graphene.

Nitrogen-doped CDs (N-CDs) were firstly prepared by using pear juice as the carbon source and ethanediamine as a nitrogen doping precursor with a microwave assisted pyrolysis technique. Based on the fluorescence recovery induced by competitive adsorption and desorption, a label-free “turn on” fluorescence assay with high sensitivity and selectivity was proposed for the analysis of CA125.
