Herein we describe a convenient ‘click’ chemistry method for introducing pendant self-immolative linkers to a polymer backbone through post-polymerization modification. The intro duced triazole rings serve both to anchor the stimuli-cleavable trigger groups to the polymer backbone, while also forming a functional part of the self-immolation cascade. We investigate the polymerization kinetics, post-synthetic modification, and self-immolation mechanism of a model polymer system, and discuss avenues for future studies on poly-pendant self-immolative triazoles as a modular, stimuli-responsive macromolecule platform. </p> </div> </div> </div>

AbstractThe paper investigates the conceptual dichotomy of violence and nonviolence in reference to the self-immolations that have been taking place in Tibet for the last several years. First using the insights of Hannah Arendt to distinguish between the categories of violent, nonviolent and peaceful, I approach the question of violence as the problem of acts that transgress prohibitions against causing harm. Using that heuristic, I examine the ways multiple ethical systems are vying for recognition regarding the selfimmolations, and how a certain Buddhist ambivalence around extreme acts of devotion complicate any easy designations of the act as ‘violent’ or ‘nonviolent’. I conclude by suggesting how any such classification inculcates us into questions of power and assertions of appropriate authority.

Background and Purpose: The absence of psychogeographical awareness is a critical factor contributing to the lackadaisical attitudes towards the place and its environment. As a result, it enables an individual to fully experience a location, both physically and intellectually, while also gaining a feeling of self-discovery and self-realisation.   Methodology: The purpose of this study was to examine the responses of a group of individuals who participated in a field observation. 40 participants from a Malaysian university's foundation level were brought to Malacca to experience the environment's geographical scenery at their own leisure. The survey data was then manually transcribed and analysed in accordance with the study's aim.   Findings: Interactions with individuals and observation of features in the countryside and urban surroundings enabled participants to go on a psychogeographical journey that influenced their way of thinking and behaving. All participants felt that the journey had influenced their experiences and perspectives on their thinking and behaviour, highlighting the critical role of this notion in establishing the connection between place and self.   Contributions:  The findings of this study provide a solid foundation for future research in the field of psychogeography. The data may be used as a baseline for future studies to determine whether a comparable impact exists in other locations, with or without significant features like those found in Malacca.   Keywords: Psychogeography, place attachment, place meaning, self-discovery, Malacca.   Cite as: Khaidzir, M. ABSTRACTIn this paper, we describe unique thermally responsive polymer system based on nanotube-elastomers dispersed with core-shell expanding microspheres (phase-change material). Upon thermal or infrared stimuli, liquid hydrocarbon cores encapsulated within the microspheres vaporize, expanding the surrounding shells and stretching the matrix. Microsphere transformation resulted in visible dimensional changes associated with macroscopic volume increase (>500%), reduction in density (>80%), and increase in elastic modulus (>675%). Additionally, electrically conductive nanotubes allowed for expansion dependent electrical responses. We present our new findings on expansion dependent superhydrophobicity in these materials and present some outlook and comparison of our stimuli responsive polymers with other material systems for future origami based applications.

This study was conducted to analyze the performance of the service of tax authorities, Taxation Services and Tax Compliance of taxpayers and the influence tax authorities Services and Taxation Services to the personal taxpayer compliance in Semarang District. The study using a survey research approach. The population in this study were all individual taxpayers in the district of Semarang. Sampling method using judgment sampling with a sample of 100 taxpayers. Methods of data collection using questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis using multiple linear regression analysis. The study concluded that: (a) variable of tax authorities service had no significant effect on the variable Taxpayer Compliance; (b) Taxation Services has positive and significant effect on Taxpayer Compliance; (c) variable service of tax authorities and Taxation Services simultaneously have significant effect on Taxpayer Compliance. The research suggestions: (a) taxation socialization should be increased so that all taxpayers know that they have choices and ease to report SPT; (b) Tax Officer must more Proactive and communicative to the taxpayers; (c) rewards and punishments apply to the taxpayer in accordance with the legislation in force; (d) variable service of tax authorities and Taxation Service has simultaneously contributed influences on taxpayer compliance is relatively small at only 16.7 percent. It is therefore recommended for future studies to examine several other factors, such as the understanding of the self-assessment system, education level, income level, tax penalties, or because of attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control.

Abstract Self-oscillation is a phenomenon where an object sustains periodic motion upon non-periodic stimulus. It occurs commonly in nature, a few examples being heartbeat, sea waves and fluttering of leaves. Stimuli-responsive materials allow creating synthetic self-oscillators fuelled by different forms of energy, e.g. heat, light and chemicals, showing great potential for applications in power generation, autonomous mass transport, and self-propelled micro-robotics. However, most of the self-oscillators are based on bending deformation, thereby limiting their possibilities of being implemented in practical applications. Here, we report light-fuelled self-oscillators based on liquid crystal network actuators that can exhibit three basic oscillation modes: bending, twisting and contraction-expansion. We show that a time delay in material response dictates the self-oscillation dynamics, and realize a freestyle self-oscillator that combines numerous oscillation modes simultaneously by adjusting the excitation beam position. The results provide new insights into understanding of self-oscillation phenomenon and offer new designs for future self-propelling micro-robots.

Much of the research on self-talk in sport has focused on the effects of assigned self-talk (e.g., instructional self-talk, motivational self-talk) on the performance of laboratory tasks and/or tasks of short duration (Hatzigeorgiadis, Zourbanos, Galanis, & Theodorakis, 2011; Tod, Hardy, & Oliver, 2011). The purpose of this study was to explore more fully the self-talk of athletes involved in competition over an extended period of time. Marathon runners (N = 483) were surveyed. The majority (88%) of runners, those who indicated that they use self-talk during marathons, completed open-ended items describing their self-talk while competing. Runners reported using a rich variety of motivational self-talk as well as spiritual self-talk and mantras, types of self-talk less widely studied in the literature. Given the findings of this research, future studies exploring self-talk use during competition in sporting events of long duration seems warranted.
