Energy is the driving force primarily associated with the economic and social development of a country. Energy serves as the building block of any industry or services, which in turn propel the economy of any nation. But energy at affordable price is the prime challenge which developing countries are facingtoday as a result of continuous increase in primary energy cost. Biomass such as wood, crop residues,agricultural residues. Forest waste, etc., are the oldest source of heat energy for domestic purposes. The energy requirement and end use of energy at rural areas are quite different from urban environment, whichare basic and essential amenities like lighting, water pumping and power for small industries dominate village energy requirements. Even now Coimbatore has rural and urban that need some form of energy other that gird electricity to light up the darkness, to improve its economy and to increase the livingstandards of the rural people. If Odanthurai Panchayat has to achieve its goal of becoming a leading electricity power in Coimbatore. The Odanthurai will have to find modern and renewable ways of producing energy to bridge the increasing gap between demand and supply for electricity supply. In recent years modern biomass conversion technologies have been developed which can convert biomass fuels into various energy forms. These technologies can play an important role in providing sustainable solutions for decentralized energy demand in villages and industries. The economic and environmental conditions of rural areas can be improved only by means of local empowerment and decentralized energy generation.Gasifier can play an important role in the upliftment of rural people as it serves the purpose of economic and environmental improvement. This shows that the substitution of petroleum products and CO2 emission reduction, power generation, assessment of the social impacts and economic viability. So the successful model of Odanthurai can be replicated anywhere to fulfill the energy and other essential needs of rural people.

Advancement in electricity is the key ingredient that can actively take part in alleviating poverty and drastically improve the socio-economic status of the people of Bangladesh. The incorporation of renewable energy sources would help the country meet the energy requirement as well as contribute positively towards building a sustainable planet. The paper has extensively discussed the potential aspects of renewable energy resources in Bangladesh and how the Internet of Things can facilitate the implementation of intermittent sources. The regulatory and socio-economic aspects of the renewable energy industry have been explored and sustainable solutions will be discussed to fast-track the process of integrating various renewable energy sources in the power grid to meet the energy demand. The paper discusses the challenges associated with the RE integration in Bangladesh’s power mix and tries to mitigate it through the IoT. Besides that, an RE map for Bangladesh along with prospective power network has also been discussed in this work.

Afghanistan hosts the Hindu Kush, an extension of the Himalaya mountains that act as water sources for five major rivers flowing through Afghanistan. Most of these rivers provide promise for the construction of water dams and installment of micro hydropower plants (MHP). Although civil war and political strife continue to threaten the country for more than four decades, the Afghan government introduced strategic plans for the development of the country. In 2016 Afghanistan introduced the Afghanistan National Peace and Development (ANPD) Framework at Brussels de-signed to support Afghanistan’s progress towards achieving the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). This study discussed the 7th Goal (ensuring access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy for all) and 8th Goal (promoting sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all) alignment in Afghanistan. The Afghan gov-ernment acknowledges its responsibility to provide electricity for all of its citizens, but this can only be achieved if the government can secure a reliable source of energy. Afghanistan’s mountainous terrain provides a challenge to build a central energy distribution system. Therefore this study looks for alternative solutions to the energy problems in Afghanistan and explores feasibility of micro-hydropower plant installations in remote areas. This study evaluated socio-economic im-pacts of micro-hydropower plants in the life of average residents. We focused on one example of a micro hydropower plant located in Parwan, conducted interviews with local residents, and gath-ered on-site data. The findings in this study can help policymakers to analyze the effects of devel-opment projects in the social and economic life of residents. It will encourage the government and hopefully the private sector to invest in decentralized energy options, while the country is facing an ever-growing energy demand.

AbstractThe global energy demand is projected to rise by almost 28% by 2040 compared to current levels. Biomass is a promising energy source for producing either solid or liquid fuels. Biofuels are alternatives to fossil fuels to reduce anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. Nonetheless, policy decisions for biofuels should be based on evidence that biofuels are produced in a sustainable manner. To this end, life cycle assessment (LCA) provides information on environmental impacts associated with biofuel production chains. Here, we review advances in biomass conversion to biofuels and their environmental impact by life cycle assessment. Processes are gasification, combustion, pyrolysis, enzymatic hydrolysis routes and fermentation. Thermochemical processes are classified into low temperature, below 300 °C, and high temperature, higher than 300 °C, i.e. gasification, combustion and pyrolysis. Pyrolysis is promising because it operates at a relatively lower temperature of up to 500 °C, compared to gasification, which operates at 800–1300 °C. We focus on 1) the drawbacks and advantages of the thermochemical and biochemical conversion routes of biomass into various fuels and the possibility of integrating these routes for better process efficiency; 2) methodological approaches and key findings from 40 LCA studies on biomass to biofuel conversion pathways published from 2019 to 2021; and 3) bibliometric trends and knowledge gaps in biomass conversion into biofuels using thermochemical and biochemical routes. The integration of hydrothermal and biochemical routes is promising for the circular economy.

India’s medical service industry is an emerging force in Southeast Asia, which should be recognized. A large portion of the country’s GDP is being earned through this sector. Paradoxically, India’s rural sphere has always been highly deprived of medical facilities even in rudimentary level. This huge imbalance was previously an issue for India to reach to a footing through innovation. India still being a developing country has majority of people living in rural areas where quality healthcare is not only difficult to avail but sometimes even hard to access. In such circumstances, an initiative like Lifeline Express (LLE) has provided the people with access to quality healthcare which has been crucially needed. It is a very simple idea but incredibly complex in terms of execution throughout the whole region. The LLE is a hospital which moves throughout rural India in a form of a fully equipped train. Since 1991, this initiative in India has generated some commendable projects through which it has served many rural Indians. Through this case, it will be comprehensible of how the train and the medical team function and will show the limitations and challenges healthcare in India is facing and how LLE has proved its fantastic ability to fight with the constraints and make healthcare reach the doorsteps of the rural people. Despite the challenges and limitations, it is also been revealed how the journey of LLE has grown from a three-coach train to seven-coach train where patients get treatment of many diseases from the early 1990s to this day.

Often the government and the non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are criticised for their poor performances in delivering services particularly in rural areas. However, there has been limited research on the assessment of their relative performances in service delivery as well as on the perceptions of people on the quality of such service delivery. This study examines the relative performances of NGOs and the governmental development interventions that provide basic services including public health, education, drinking water and sanitation. The study explains the impact of agricultural extension services and infrastructure such as access to roads and markets on the rural people and measures the satisfaction level of the rural community. For this purpose, 225 households (HHs) in 8 villages of Phalia Tehsil, district Mandi Bahauddin, Punjab, Pakistan were first surveyed in 2010 and then in 2014 using a structured questionnaire. The findings reveal different satisfaction levels of HHs, with most of them expressing less satisfaction on government service delivery compared with NGOs. They reveal satisfaction over the performance of NGOs in health, drinking water supplies and agriculture extension services. Further, the study shows an increasing satisfaction of people on access to road, transport, agri-market and price of agri-commodities by the government.

Abstract: COVID 19 has totally changed the way of life on Earth. India has been one of the worst affected nations in terms of infection also while harbouring a big chunk of population in the rural areas. It was imperative rural livelihood associated economic sustainability was to be severely affected but the exact extent of the disaster is yet to be known. As things are getting back to life in the new normal, researches regarding the same is under way, but it will be quite a few months or even years before the true picture can be ascertained and according mitigation strategies are adopted. Concrete data is still unavailable, even to some extent in the Government level. This review aims to understand how the pandemic played out on Rural Livelihood with the limited data available on the open platforms like social media and news media. It is tried to collect and comprehensively present the impeccable research work and efforts put in by the grassroot social workers and numerous journalists to collect news and information straight from the battleground, putting their lives to great risk in times of the pandemic. With modernization and technology enhancements on a global scale, environmental consciousness has also been increasing in recent days. Various technologies and automobile industries are vandalized with sustainable solutions and green technologies. Transportation via roadways is mostly preferred for distant travel as well, despite the advancements in airways and railways, due to less capital outlay, door to door service possibility in rural areas etc. The conventional fuel vehicles are a huge contributor to environmental pollution. Electric vehicles are an optimal solution to this issue. The lives of the common masses are not impacted largely by the electric vehicles despite their market commercialization since a few decades. It is due to certain challenges associated with the electrical vehicles. A 100% efficient perpetual machine does not exist yet. Predominantly, challenges related to charging, hinders the success of e-vehicles. Frequent charging is required in case of long-distance travel and other scenarios in the existing vehicles. Based on the respective governments, extensive changes are made in the infrastructure to overcome the issues at the charging stations. In this paper, an enhanced wireless charging module for electric vehicles is presented. The use of multiple coils is emphasized for building up energy and transmitting it. The inductive power transfer mechanism and efficiency of the system are improved with the design of a three-phase coil. The mechanism for assessment of the energy consumed in e-vehicles is also discussed.

This article investigates how biogas technology can facilitate the deployment of municipal circular bio-economic solutions within the energy and agrarian sectors in Denmark. The emphasis is on the regional climate policy and the existing biogas technology concepts, within a decentralized energy market located in the Southern part of Zealand. The case analysis will identify how such technology can be utilized as a lever for future “extraction-activities,” as for example protein, wax, and furfural substrates. Within Falster & Lolland Municipalities, it is identified that 800.000 tons of animal manure is readily available for biogas production, just as 880.000 tons and 220.000 tons of unused beet tops and residual cereal straw could be feed to biogas facilities as for example co-silage materials. With a potential gas yield of approximately 897.000 MWh, composed by the crop residues alone, the challenge is how to utilize such resources the most efficient when addressing future needs for bio-products and high value materials and energy. Through the lens of Circular Bio-Economy this article addresses three themes, by which biogas technology can become an “engine” for future bioenergy solutions, where cascading activities and use of side-streams are developed: 1) production of biogas by means of local agricultural residues (beet tops, residual straw, and animal manure), combined with 2) “extraction-activities” as furfural and wax from straw, as well as protein from beet tops. Besides this 3) opportunities for upgrading the biogas and distributing it on a natural gas network, hereby enlarging the supply market for energy services from the biogas plant and facilitating the development of a more “integrated energy system,” currently being promoted by the European Commission. This article concludes on a step-by-step approach to utilize biomass residues more efficiently in light of the CBE concept and cascading approach, and the available biomass resources within the specific case area addressed.

Aim. To conduct analysis of resource provision for medical care for patients with infectious pathology and to study primary infectious morbidity at the level of municipal districts of the Republic of Tatarstan. Methods. Study of primary infectious morbidity according to official statistics of the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-Being in the Republic of Tatarstan based on form No. 2 with extracting data in 495 units, annual reports of Infectious Disease Service of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tatarstan for 2005-2015 - 66 units. The analysis of resource provision according to the central regional hospitals data, with extracting data in 70 units. Results. During the period of 2005-2015 the highest rates of primary infectious morbidity were observed in municipal districts where the administrative center is a city (13 054.01 per 100 000 population), the lowest - in rural areas (7953.6). The level of infectious morbidity in municipal districts is significantly lower than in average across the Republic of Tatarstan (р ˂0.05). 3 municipal districts having different types of administrative center are studied: Zainsky (urban population 72%), Apastovsky (rural people 73.9%), Drozhzhanovsky (rural people 100%) districts. The highest level of infectious morbidity in Zainsky District (2005 - 10 510; 2015 - 11 800.85 per 100 000 population), Apastovsky (7600.0 and 3612.44) and Drozhzhanovsky district (1629.68 and 4765.84). Differences in resource provision for infectious disease service are established: Zainsky district (there is an infectiologist, infectious beds, infectious disease office, specialized laboratory), Apastovsky district (service in infectious disease office is provided by part-time infectiologist), Drozhzhanovsky district (service in infectious disease office is provided by a nurse). In Drozhzhanovsky and Apastovsky districts there are no infectious beds and specialized laboratories. Conclusion. Level of infectious morbidity in municipal districts of the Republic of Tatarstan is closely related to the type of municipal district and resource provision for infectious disease service.
