As the demand for online education continues to increase, institutions are faced with developing process models for efficient, high-quality online course development. This paper describes a systems, team-based, approach that centers on an online instructional design theory (Active Mastery Learning) implemented at Colorado State University-Global Campus.

Abstract Date Presented 04/12/21 OT has been specifically called upon to improve the quality of care of people with Parkinson's disease (PD). This capstone project is a response to this call. A two-module online learning program was designed to address the gap between knowledge and current best practices in the treatment of mental health concerns associated with PD. The results suggest that high-quality online training is an effective way to teach OTs to better address the mental health needs of people with PD. Primary Author and Speaker: Sarah A. Zurawski; Contributing Authors: Wendy Coster, Gael Orsmond

Online education, introduced obligatorily during the COVID-19 pandemic, poses a great challenge for teachers, students and their parents. Children and adolescents with mild intellectual disability or with ASD, that due to their cognitive deficits need appropriate support, are in a particular difficult situation. The aim of the conducted research was to specify the possible problems of online education of students with mild intellectual disability and ASD in their teachers' opinion. The research consisted in answering the questions from an online questionnaire. 114 teachers teaching children and adolescents with mild intellectual disability and 114 teachers teaching children and adolescents with ASD participated in the research. The results show that according to the teachers the biggest problems of students with mild intellectual disability and ASD are: understanding and remembering new material, lack of contact with their peers. Students with ASD are characterized by significantly greater intensity of the occurrence of difficulties in the area of education than people with mild intellectual disability. Difficulties in both groups of examined children and adolescents oblige to appropriately support them in online education and cooperation with their parents.

Distance learning has already become a part of the educational process. In this regard, questions appear concerning its organization and the solution of specific problems. They include laboratory workshops, which is an integral part of the educational process in higher education since laboratory works allow students to gain knowledge and acquire skills, which is a prerequisite for the formation of their specialist competence. The problems of obtaining educational information during distance learning can be quite successfully solved. However, the acquisition of experimental skills remains an educational, scientific, and methodological problem that requires a solution. The article defines the peculiarities of using virtual laboratory workshops in the online education of students studying the discipline “Inorganic Chemistry”. The theoretic analysis of the main statements of the research problem was presented in the article. The results of the experimental study have proved that the use of computer modeling and the tools of a virtual laboratory when studying chemistry disciplines increases the educational achievements of the students, regardless of the initial level of knowledge. A prerequisite for the effective acquisition of skills by students is the systematic use of virtual laboratory tools. With the occasional use of virtual laboratory instruments, the skills obtained during the experiment were not learned or were not learned for a long time. The use of virtual laboratories provides independent training for students, increases motivation to master new material. Students focus on the experimental process, not on equipment and tools, as it happens in a real laboratory, which can become both a positive and a negative aspect of acquiring practical skills of future engineers, doctors, and pharmacists.

This chapter seeks to investigate the common characteristics that make online courses high quality. With an increase in online education and the increased attention to national standards and accreditation, there is a need for research to focus on the quality of online education. The literature related to online education suggests that more studies compare traditional courses with online courses as well as ways to affect the social climate of online courses and programs than the quality of online education. Questions to be considered range from, “How much time do instructors spend developing online courses compared to traditional courses?” to “What are the students’ perspective of the quality of online courses / instruction?” McGorry (2003) suggests seven constructs “to evaluate quality and learning in online courses: flexibility, responsiveness and student support, student learning, interaction, technology and technical support, and student satisfaction” (p. 162).

Ambient temperature temperbead welding using the Machine Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) process is widely accepted in the nuclear industry. GTAW machine ambient temperature temperbead welding, addressed in ASME Code Case N-638, has been used to repair ASME Class 1 components in numerous safety related applications. Underwater laser beam welding (ULBW) is gaining increasing industry recognition as a method for producing high quality welds in high radiation environments. Since ULBW enables high quality weld deposition in underwater environments, the process enables water to serve as a radiation moderator, reducing personnel exposure levels. ULBW’s advantages go beyond radiation exposure reductions, and this paper will provide the reader a better understanding of the ULBW process’s capabilities and properties. A recently formed ASME Task Group is preparing a new Code Case that will delineate specific requirements and essential variables governing use of ULBW to repair ASME Class 1 components. In addition, this Code Case will provide specific rules for use of the ULBW process for ambient temperature temperbead welding. Extensive testing has been performed to demonstrate ULBW’s capabilities with regard to ambient temperature temperbead welding in an underwater environment, and this paper summarizes testing and test results. It also provides a technical summary of the new Code Case, it’s requirements, and summarizes several of the bases for these requirements.

The training of a specialist at a university is determined by the quality of the educational process, during which it is necessary to take into account the situation on the labor market. Successful training largely depends on the students self-education, which is difficult and limited in the context of a pandemic. The conditions of todays realities dictate the methods and forms of the process of self-education of students. During the pandemic, students practice self-education on a remote basis. We consider this form as a complex functional system with its own logic of development and relatively independent stages of learning via the Internet. Changes in various fields of activity are observed daily, which increases the requirements for the quality of education of a competitive individual; the idea of online education using electronic information platforms that serve as a means of self-education of students at the university is analyzed. The process of organizing the educational process in disciplines and tasks from the position of digitalization, through the introduction of modern digital technologies in the process of education of academic courses at the time of the pandemic in the country and the world, becomes significant. The conceptual apparatus considered in the paper: information space, educational space, self-education, competence, competence approach. It clarifies the need to teach the discipline in combination to acquire professional experience; the idea of revealing and enriching the inner potential of each person, his development and self-education throughout his life is substantiated; a detailed analysis of psychological and pedagogical literature is given. The results of a comprehensive study conducted at Chelyabinsk State University confirm the dependence of communicative competence on the students self-education during the pandemic.

The transition to online education, despite many organizational, technical, legal, and ethical issues debated in society, has occurred. In special periods of time, the availability of distance education technologies becomes critical, as it is now during the recognition of the spread of coronovirus as a pandemic. Given the severity of the issue, the university administration and the pedagogical community have to solve a number of issues for the development of online courses and the design of an individual educational trajectory for each student as soon as possible. There are done the practical results and presented the problems concerning the digital educational resources creation and implementation in the oil and gas university education regarding the authors’ experience. Combining the efforts of oil and gas universities is one of the effective ways to create a single educational space of high-quality digital content, in which all stakeholders are interested (students, employers, universities and government agencies).
