<p>Since the beginning of the 20th century, modernism introduced to the world an architectural composite that consists of concrete, steel and glass. Heading into the 21st century, the use of these three materials has only expanded as it continues to be the most economically efficient means of construction. While digital technology in design and construction continues to evolve, the materials at which we construct architecture has remained the same. Given the rapid growth of the human population, new and more sustainable approaches to construction methodologies and materials need to be explored and utilised. This research will demonstrate the potential of freeform 3D printing as a sustainable and efficient alternative building method. It outlines contemporary digital design techniques including computation and simulation tools as a means to define and test this proposed building method including structural optimisation tools to create the most structurally efficient form from additive manufacturing. The computational methods described are then applied to a manufacturing process that includes a 6-axis robotic arm. The final result is a building methodology that supports a computational workflow from design conception to manufacture.</p>

BACKGROUND Health systems around the world are increasingly reliant on digital technology. Such reliance requires that healthcare organizations consider effective cybersecurity and digital resilience as a fundamental component of patient safety, with recent cyberattacks highlighting the risks to patients and targeted organizations. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to explore the current global cybersecurity landscape and maturity in healthcare. METHODS We developed and administered a survey to examine the current cybersecurity landscape and preparedness level across global healthcare organizations. RESULTS Cyber threats were a common concern for the 17 healthcare organizations who participated. The principal concerns highlighted were data security, including the manipulation or loss of electronic health records; loss of trust in the organization; and risks of service disruption. Cybersecurity maturity scoring showed that despite the majority of organizations having established cybersecurity practices, levels of awareness and education were universally poor. CONCLUSIONS Policymakers should consider raising awareness and improving education/training on cybersecurity as a fundamental tenet of patient safety.

AbstractIn this article Newell uses two case studies to explore one of the central threads of Mbembe’s Abiola lecture, the idea that there is a relationship between the plasticity of digital technology and African cosmologies of the deuxième monde. One case concerns the viral YouTube video #sciencemustfall, in which students at the University of Cape Town criticize “Western” science and demand that African forms of knowledge such as witchcraft be incorporated into the meaning of science. The second case considers fieldwork among the brouteurs of Côte d’Ivoire, internet scammers who build intimate relationships on false premises using social media. They acquire shocking amounts of wealth in this way which they display on their own social media accounts. However, they are said to use occult means to seduce and persuade their virtual lovers, trapping their prey in the sticky allure of the world wide web. Newell uses both examples to highlight the overlaps between the transformational efficacies embedded in both occult ontologies and digital worldings, calling for the possibility of using African cosmologies of the second world to produce a ‘theory from the south’ of virtual sociality.

Due to the threat posed by COVID-19, many colleges and universities around the world opted to switch to online courses and smart working to keep their students, professors, and staff safe during the pandemic emergency. Face-to-face classes, including labs and workshops, have been canceled and substituted with online activities. New administrative procedures have also been established to support the emergency remote education. This article analyzes these changes in light of the experiences of three higher education institutions in different countries, namely Latvia, Poland, and Italy. From this analysis, some aspects have emerged that have stimulated a deeper reflection on the use of digital technology in higher education. .

ABSTRACTContinued advances in digital design software and 3D printing methods enable innovative approaches in the development of new educational tools for laboratory-based STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) learning. The decreasing cost of 3D printing equipment and greater access provided by university fabrication centers afford unique opportunities for educators to transcend the limitations of conventional modes of student engagement with analytical instrumentation. This work shares successful efforts at Wabash College to integrate user-friendly and inexpensive 3D printed instruments kits into introductory STEM coursework. The laboratory kits and activities described provide new tools for engaging students in the exploration of instrument design and performance. These experiences provide effective ways to assist active-learners in discovering the technology and fundamental principles of analysis and deliberately confront the “black box” perception of instrumentation.

Abstract. The world is currently facing the covid-19 pandemic which has been shifting most of human daily life by using digital technology. One that was worried about the teenagers spirituality disruption due to excessive use of digital technology. This paper aimed to study the parenetal’s role in the spiritual growth of teenagers during the covid-19 pandemic through a literature study. Through this study, it was concluded that the pandemic period was an opportunity for parents to optimally implement Christian Religious Education in the family due to the large amount of meeting time between parents and teenagers at home. Thus it can be an opportunity for parents to as much as possible improve the spirituality of their teenagers.Abstrak. Saat ini dunia tengah dihadapkan dengan fenomena pandemi covid-19 yang mengalihkan sebagian besar rutinitas manusia dengan menggunakan teknologi digital. Salah satu hal yang dikuatirkan dampaknya terhadap spiritual remaja yang akan merosot karena penyalagunaan teknologi digital secara berlebihan. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peran orang tua terhadap pertumbuhan spiritual remaja pada masa pandemi covid-19 melalui studi kepustakaan. Melalui kajian ini disimpulkan bahwa masa pandemi menjadi kesempatan bagi orang tua untuk menerapkan Pendidikan Agama Kristen dalam keluarga secara optimal oleh karena banyaknya waktu pertemuan antara orang tua dan remaja di rumah. Dengan demikian hal itu dapat menjadi peluang bagi orang tua untuk semaksimal mungkin meningkatkan kerohanian anak remajanya.

The development of a novel 3D-printed three-claw robotic gripper shall be described in this paper with the goal of incorporating various design considerations. Such considerations include the grip reliability and stability, grip force maximization, wide object grasping capability. Modularization of its components is another consideration that allows its parts to be easily machined and reusable. The design was realized by 3D printing using a combination of tough polylactic acid (PLA) material and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) material. In practice, additional tolerances were also considered for 3D printing of materials to compensate for possible expansion or shrinkage of the materials used to achieve the required functionality. The aim of the study is to explore the design and eventually deploy the three-claw robotic gripper to an actual robotic arm once its metal work fabrication is finished.
