CPEC (China Pakistan Economic Corridor), a hot cake for the analysts, business Tycons, politicians, traders and above all the common person. CPEC has become the centre of attention for the whole world as it has been entitled as “a game changer”, since Chine is getting access to a big economy of the European and Gulf states through.  Gawader has become a Global eye catcher. This issue is being manipulated and portrayed in different colours on the national and international forums. The present study has been invested to explore its effect on the linguistic map of the world generally and Pakistan particularly. The present explores the prospects of CPE as creating new linguistic changes and its hegemonic acceptance. It is an analytical research of media discourse to expose the manipulation of social power and inequality on national, regional and global levels being reflected through text and talk in both social and political contexts. CDA has been used as a methodology to unveil the biased language and to make the readers aware of manipulations strategies. The present study aims at make a critical discourse analysis of BBC (British Broadcast Company) Kuala Lumpur‘s report published on 22nd February 2012 to investigate the manipulative strategy of the editor that how CPEC can be involved in a linguistic debate on global level and how it can disturb the linguistic imperialism. To meet this purpose a journal with the title of “ Is English or Mandarin the language of the future?” published in BBC Kuala Lumpur has been selected to be analysed on the modal of Van Dijk (2000) in terms of discursive strategies The nature of the study is both quantitative and qualitative. The results are shown through numbers and tables to present clearer results. The results show a mixed approach towards the acceptance of the mega project and apprehensions of the stakeholders.

CPEC has become the centre of attention for the whole world as it has been entitled as “a game changer”, since Chine has been connected to the European and Gulf states through CPEC via Silk Road. Gawadar has become an important trade centre of the future. Due to these key reasons, this issue is being manipulated and portrayed in different colours at national and international forums. Keeping the present scenario in view, the present study has beeninvested to explore the hidden strategies of different local news papers that how this phenomenon is being portrayed and manipulated. It is an analytical research of media discourse that primarily studies how social power and inequality is manipulated and reproduced through text and talk in both social and political contexts.CDA of journalistic discourse tries to unveil the biased language to make the readers aware of manipulative strategies used in both printed and online news papers.The present study aims at making a comparative study of three daily English newspapers, The “Dawn News”, “The Express Tribune” and “The Business Recorder” about the news headlines on CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor) to show the negotiation on the important issues like CPEC via news headlines. Through investing the Critical Discourse Analysis as method,the researchershavetried to investigate the manipulations invested by the editors to represent their own ideologies on the same issue. To meet the same goalthreeheadlines were collected from all these three news papers dealing with the same phenomenon. All those headlines were analysed on the modal of Van Dijk (2000) in terms of discursive strategies through discursive micro and macro strategies presented by Van Dijk. The nature of the study is qualitative. The results show a controversial approach towards the acceptance of this mega project and apprehensions of the stake holders and political figures.

Discourses are mostly used by the elites as a means of controlling public discourse and hence, the public mind. In this way, they try to legitimate their ideology, values and norms in the society, which may result in social power abuse, dominance or inequality. The role of a critical discourse analyst is to understand and expose such abuses and inequalities. To this end, this paper is aimed at understanding and exposing the discursive construction of an anti-immigration Europe by the elites in the European Parliament (EP), through the example of Kristina Winberg, a member of the Sweden Democrats political party in Sweden and the political group of Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy in the EP. In the theoretical and methodological framework, the premises and strategies of van Dijk’s socio-cognitive approach of critical discourse analysis make it possible to achieve the aim of the paper.

This research paper aims to explore the cultural, political, and social realities of Pakistan in Uzma Aslam Khan’s novel Trespassing. The ethnic conflicts which engulfed Karachi in the 1990s in the aftermath of the Afghan War and Gulf War are also depicted. Mixed approach has been used as a tool in order to highlight different aspects of real life presented in the novel. These approaches are critical discourse analysis, punctuation as prosody of language, code mixing, and color semiotics. Code mixing in the novel gives a glaring picture of Pakistani culture and traditional values at the major level by the use of Urduised words. The application of critical discourse analysis in Trespassing reveals the political unrest, corruption, fantasy for America, individualism and ethnic conflicts which swamped the whole country. The prosody of punctuation illustrates the hidden meanings of the sentences more explicit thus making the societal issues more protuberant. The prosody is concerned with the semantic meaning rather than rhetorical meaning. Color semiotics of both eastern and western culture also objectified and presented a more comprehensive vision of the culture, ideas, and feelings in the novel. Trespassing is a book which is realistic and in all sense an essence of Pakistan and its people.

Language is a mirror to self-identity and social power. Humans sculpt their identities in society through their own words and linguistic structures and if they are marginalized or demeaned, they count on language to show power and individuality. The importance of language as identity mirroring, sets the present study to investigate feminism on a linguistic ground. It examines women speech under a critical discourse analysis which makes the perfect lead to the swelling social problem of women's identity and power. The study aims at investigating how women utilizes their true power through language. To achieve this aim, the study investigates the linguistic structure of Lady Zainab's (A.S.) sermon. The study adopts Fairclough's Model (1995) in order to reach the intended conclusion.

<p>Nowadays with increasing theoretical criticism of positivism approach, many social and humanities scientists emphasize qualitative methods of research rather than quantitative data collection and statistical analysis. One of the common methods of qualitative research is critical discourse analysis. From the perspective of philosophy, critical discourse analysis is based on structuralism which emphasizes human role (i.e. reduces reality to human structures). This article is to present a review of the origins of critical discourse analysis and influential theoretical schools and expresses the most common and different approaches. The article analyzes the logical implications of the structural foundations of critical discourse analysis. It also comes to the conclusion that diversity in discourse is inseparable from social and political factors. As a result, linguistic diversity reflects structured social differences that creates it.</p>

ABSTRACT This paper presents the synthesis of a study on the English language ideologies (ELI) underlying the Federal Program entitled “Languages without Borders-English” (LwBE). The investigation draws on texts from the legal, educational, and journalistic spheres about the enactment of the Program. Using NVivo 11 software, these texts were stored and categorized in the light of the Policy Cycle Approach and Critical Discourse Analysis. The overlapping of six ELI - standard language, English language as a commodity, native-speakerism, instrumentalist, global language and linguistic imperialism - is conceived as a common trait of LwBE in discourses, displaying tensions between the ratification and the questioning of English hegemony in the language policy engendered by the Program, within the context of the internationalization of Brazilian higher education.

This article focuses on the discursive underpinnings of the legitimacy crisis that the Eurozone as a transnational institution is facing. By adopting a critical discourse analysis (CDA) perspective, the empirical analysis focuses on the media discussion in Finland. The analysis shows how discourses of financial capitalism, humanism, nationalism and Europeanism played a central role in legitimation, delegitimation and relegitimation. Furthermore, the analysis elaborates on the legitimation strategies that were often used in the media texts: position-based authorizations involving institutionalized authorities and ‘voices of the common man’, knowledge-based authorizations focusing on economic expertise, rationalizations concentrating on economic arguments, moral evaluations based on unfairness used especially for delegitimation, mythopoiesis involving alternative future scenarios and cosmology used to construct inevitability. By so doing, this study adds to our understanding of the discursive and ideological underpinnings of the social, political and financial crisis in Greece and other European countries and contributes to research on discursive legitimation more generally.

The present research, "A Critical Discourse Analysis of the Linguistic Features of Billboards", has been accomplished in order to make a comprehensive analysis of the fact how advertising is manipulating and altering the basic philosophies, dogmas, creeds and ideologies of the common people. Advertising is a vast field, and it has influenced the lives of all of us in the last decades. Keeping this factor in view, the researcher has made an attempt to uncover those aspects which remain hidden in the glamorous and eye-catching commercials which contribute to the capitalist's efforts to make maximum profit by thrusting his products on the customers. The researcher has done the linguistic analysis by using Norman Fairclough's model of Critical Discourse Analysis (1993) of the billboard advertisements. The researcher has analyzed the language and images used on the billboards and had made an attempt to find out the basic notions for which these linguistic expressions have been used in the boards. For this purpose, he uses various tactics. The sincerity which is illustrated in the billboard advertisements by the advertiser is not factual. The real picture is on the other side.

The purpose of this Major Research Paper (MRP) is to explore the 2008 economic recession and the unprecedented collapse of the American economy triggered by the mortgage market that affected individuals and corporations. One of the objectives of this work is to identify the key actors who prompted the economic crisis and how they influenced the public perception of investing in the housing that led to bankruptcy for millions. Another objective is to identify the media’s role in the recession and some of the key lessons learned in how they could have mitigated the crisis. This MRP will undertake a critical discourse analysis built on the seminal work of theorists (e.g., Van Dijk (1977), and Fairclough (1985) to analyze media communications during the recession. Critical discourse analysis would be used as a theory given it examines the interaction between the abuse of social power, dominance and inequality perpetuated by institutions through text and conversation in the social and political context (Wodok and Myers, 2001).

Movie and discourse have been an academic concern. Based on the theoretical framework of Fairclough concept (1995), this study attempts to make a meso-level critical discourse analysis of a local movie, Rudy Habibie (2016). It explores how the discursive is formed and legitimized in the process of production, distribution, and consumption by the representation of the movie Rudy Habibie. It validates the effectiveness of CDA as a tool to reveal the relationship between language and ideology. It proves that Fairclough’s framework can be applied in the movie discursive study. Pratically it draws the attention to the ideologies embedded in movie discourse and encourages to improve the critical thinking. The findings described the various behaviors taken from the movie Rudy Habibie which are aimed to reveal stereotypes, presuppositions, hegemony, power and ideological stances. As the consequences, this movie became the best selling movie in 2016. The presented ideology delivered the audience through the story of the movie as the result of the text production, distribution, and consumption. The representation contributes to the construction of social power. Furthermore, the research believed having implications for language teaching, especially in CDA subject. Toward the applying of the CDA approach in the course, the student will be able to achieve the understanding of the writer’s style, finding meaning and reasons for particular stylistic choices.
