The sub district of Selo lies between the slope of Merapi and Merbabu mountains. It has several arts which are still developing because of the support from the surrounding societies. Folk arts in Selo have been performed in second and forth weeks since 2008 in the Hall of Tourism Office, Selo sub district. Some of the dance forms have come to acculturation, for example, dances of Campur Bawur, Suro Indeng, Buditani and Prajuritan. Folk arts become a media for conveying feeling and thinking coming from the artist along with the supporting society. Involvemen of the arts in ritual as well as non ritual events shows that the arts have important role in the society’s life.The dances of Campur Bawur and Prajuritan  as the media of expression have been performed in onther areas such as Surakarta for the sake of appreciation and entertainment. Arts performance also represents the society’s legitimacy or belief of the dead spirit. The dead spirit as the embryo of human being and the societies is considered to be able to protect and give safety to the socienty. As an entertainment, the form of its movement is simple and the accompaniment is dynamic. Every per- formance is mostly affected by situation of the society.  The forms of make up, costums, movements, and accompaniment have mixed with moern performance. Keywords: folk dance, aculturation, entertainment.

In the last century, decreases in infant and child mortality, urbanization and increases in healthcare efficacy have reduced children's personal exposure to death and dying. So how do children acquire accurate conceptions of death in this context? In this paper, we discuss three sources of children's learning about death and dying, namely, direct experience of death, parental communication about death and portrayals of death in the media and the arts. We conclude with recommendations about how best to teach modern children about this aspect of life. This article is part of the theme issue ‘Evolutionary thanatology: impacts of the dead on the living in humans and other animals’.

"Calamitas terrena or Poena divina: An Eliadian Approach to the Plague in the Novel Sortez vos morts by Bruno Leydet. The article proposes a dichotomous analysis of the outbreak of the Black Plague in Marseille (1720), described by French writer Bruno Leydet in the novel Sortez vos morts, which appeared in 2005. According to the grid established by Mircea Eliade, the analysis is built on two levels: the sacred and the profane. The religious as well as the modern perception of the disease and the use of a relevant lexis allow the bubonic plague to transgress the historical space, passing into the literary one. The plague epidemic in southern France is, in our view, not only a manifestation of the divine will to punish the sinful souls of the dead, but also the incarnation of greed and vicious side of the human being. This book presents the influence exerted by the media on children and adolescents in relation to the early experimentation with psychoactive substances. And the pedagogical-theological intervention as a preventive strategy. The influence on the human being through media mechanisms that condition him to the action expected by the conditioning, has been studied for a long time, by several authors such as Aldous Huxley with his book "Admirável Mundo Novo" that already addressed the conditionality of the human since the decade of 30. In the following decades, other theorists such as Edgar Morin and Guy Debord, analyzed how the human being is conditioned through mass culture and the society of the spectacle. The reality presented in relation to the conditioning of children and adolescents through the media has propelled the author, to seek preventive ways regarding the conditionality of human beings through the media. For that, it analyzed theorists like Paulo Freire and Michel Henry and their discoveries about the mediation of knowledge and the analysis of the Words of Christ and how they can contribute in the elaboration of pedagogical-theological interventions.

This article deals with the idea of ritual bodily impurity after coming into contact with a corpse in the Hebrew Bible. The evanescence and impermanence of the human body testifies to the mortality of the human being. In that way, the human body symbolizes both life and death at the same time; both conditions are perceivable in it. In Judaism, the dead body is considered as ritually impure. Although, in this context it might be better to substitute the term ‘ritually damaged’ for ‘ritually impure’: ritual impurity does not refer to hygienic or moral impurity, but rather to an incapability of exercising—and living—religion. Ritual purity is considered as a prerequisite for the execution of ritual acts and obligations. The dead body depends on a sphere which causes the greatest uncertainty because it is not accessible for the living. According to Mary Douglas’s concepts, the dead body is considered ritually impure because it does not answer to the imagined order anymore, or rather because it cannot take part in this order anymore. This is impurity imagined as a kind of contagious illness, which is carried by the body. This article deals with the ritual of the red heifer in Numbers 19. Here we find the description of the preparation of a fluid that is to help clear the ritual impurity out of a living body after it has come into contact with a corpse. For the preparation of this fluid a living creature – a faultless red heifer – must be killed. According to the description, the people who are involved in the preparation of the fluid will be ritually impure until the end of the day. The ritual impurity acquired after coming into contact with a corpse continues as long as the ritual of the Red Heifer remains unexecuted, but at least for seven days. 


The perception by people of their everyday satellites, assistants, and sources of disturbance factors that are electronic devices is discussed in the article. The presence of signs of animatism and magic actions in relation to devices is noted, the reasons for their preservation in the secularized society are highlighted, and the perspective of devices subjectivation is considered. Among the factors of the subjectivation, the contribution of engineers to the anthropomorphization of the user interaction with devices, as well as the influence of media on the “reputation” of gadgets, are distinguished. Based on the results of the modern media publications headlines content analysis, it is illustrated how the media influence the perception of gadgets by an ordinary user. «Grammatical» and «semantic» techniques, due to which the image of «subjectivity» of devices is created in news publications, are distinguished. A parallel is drawn between the mechanisms of the formation and preservation of the «cult of the dead» in society and the way the society attitudes towards «smart» devices. It is emphasized that the strength of the noted factors becomes essential, first of all, due to the phenomenon of reification. Since in the practices of everyday use of the device, the user does not think about the nature of the device itself, or about their interactions with it, the origins, reasons for these practices and ideas about the internal structure of the device are not tracked in any way, a foundation for the reification of gadgets is formed, which is already especially noticeable in the fact how children relate to the «smart» technologies around them. It is noted that at present the fact of such a pseudosubjectivity of electronic devices is not obvious and generally accepted in the mass consciousness, however, reification can lead to the institutionalization of electronic devices as subjects of the social world in the future. <p>Library and print media as a medium for the dissemination of information and knowledge resource centers. Both the media must have the positive integration of mutual benefi t. It is a form of strengthening the various models of information disseminated directly and indirectly. Various models of literacy and knowledge appeared in the print media and it is presented in the library. Therefore, it is necessary to unify the vision synergistic effort between the library and print media so that it can occur symbiotic mutualism between the library and the print media in a variety of contexts of science and technology and the arts.</p><p>Key words: symbiotic mutualism, libraries, print media, reading, and writing.</p>

This article wants to examine how the media ideology about the concept of radicalism in Islam in the mass media of Republika and Koran Tempo. The Republika newspaper supports and agrees to the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) both with an understanding of the prohibition of homosexuality and the appointment of news of FPI's violence against homosexuals. The Tempo newspaper is more about renewing ideas such as reporting on the views of the Liberal Islam Network (JIL) in respect of homosexuals. Homosexuality is the same sex lover or the choice of sexuality abnormalities is normal as a human being, it does not need to be criticized but must be respected as individual freedom. There is a fundamental ideological difference between Republika and Koran Tempo by renewing the concept of homosexuality with thinking radicalism on the basis of Islamic teachings. The homosexual issue, FPI applies the meaning of Islamic radicalism from the right-wing side which promotes violence as resistance, while JIL applies the meaning of radicalism from the left-wing side which prioritizes the radicalism of thought and law in the Koran.  AbstrakArtikel ini ingin mengkaji bagaimana ideologi media tentang konsep radikalisme dalam Islam di media massa Republika dan Koran Tempo. Surat kabar Republika mendukung dan setuju pada Front Pembela Islam (FPI) baik dengan pemahaman pelarangan homoseksual dan pengangkatan berita tindak kekerasan FPI melawan homoseksual. Koran Tempo lebih pada pembaharuan pemikiran seperti pemberitaan pandangan Jaringan Islam Liberal (JIL) terkait menghormatinya kaum homoseksual. Homoseksual adalah penyuka sesama jenis atau pilihan kelainan seksualitas itu normal sebagai manusia, tidak perlu dicela tapi harus dihargai sebagai kebebasan individu. Terdapat perbedaan ideologi yang mendasar antara Republika dan Koran Tempo dengan melakukan pembaharuan konsep homoseksual dengan radikalisme berpikir dengan pijakan ajaran Islam. Persoalan homoseksual, FPI menerapkan makna radikalisme Islam dari sisi sayap kanan yang mengedepankan kekerasan sebagai perlawanan, sedangkan JIL menerapkan makna radikalisme dari sisi sayap kiri yang mengutamakan keradikalan pemikiran dan hukum dalam al-Quran.

Life is difficult, never the same, always challenging acquired patterns of behavior and expectation, urging the human being to improvise. Improvisatory acts in everyday life are the result of unexpected situations, where the encounter between self and environment suddenly disrupts the banal rituals of life. Over time, experience and knowledge enhance ways to cope with unexpectedness, and to 'improvise' better, or even 'less.' In music, improvisation is often a situation of choice. The unexpected situation is created, set up, purposively leading to an improvisatory encounter between body and environment. The musician knows he/she will 'improvise' the next hour. But it can also resemble life, by way of sudden unexpected moments which the musician still did not 'set up.' Experience and expertise enhance the fluidity of improvisational acts in the arts. This paper seeks to explore these tensions between improvisation in everyday life and in arts: between 'urgent action' and 'play,' between determined and created situations. It will be argued that the shift is not radical, and the tensions but a matter of degree. The 'artification' of improvisation originates in everyday life by play, tactics (de Certeau) and experience (Dewey) and reaches an aesthetic and ethic level of kairos (Aristotle) in art, exploring actions of choice and risking failure by (re)creating unexpectedness. The artist, like the human being in life, but now from his/her own free choice, is challenged to leave security and encounter the unexpected. But isn't that also the quest of the hero?
