Kata kunci: adaptive re-use, edukasi, kolam renang, rekreasi, trace of memory Inggris. AbstraCTRevitalization is an effort to revive an area, area or building so that it can function again. This chapter covers Władysław Szpilman’s memoir, The Pianist. The book is a testimony to the power of music, the will to live, and the courage to stand against evil. In 1939, Szpilman, a young Warsaw pianist, played Chopin’s nocturne in C sharp minor live on the radio while German shells exploded outside so loudly that he could not hear the piano. The war cast Warsaw into the horror of occupation, the ghetto, the rounding up of Jews, the uprising, and the evacuation of the city — events that killed most of Szpilman’s friends and all of his family. Incredibly, he survived among the ruins of his beloved city. Szpilman’s life was saved by a German officer, Wilm Hosenfeld, who heard him playing the same Chopin nocturne on a piano found among the rubble. That officer died in a Russian prisoner-of-war camp, but he left behind a diary expressing his fierce despair at the barbarity of National Socialism. Extracts are published in the book for the first time, along with Szpilman’s memoir.

By Hybrid method, between used buildings and new buildings where, used buildings are rearranged effectively so that they become galleries and areas for socializing with a combination of light, material and flexible space typology forms likely according to millennial characters. While, new buildings derived from a combination of contextual sites, namely ecological elements around the site and the city will be designed based on circulation typologies, given that circulation is an important aspect in maximizing educational recreational experiences and producing programs such as ecological conservation areas, galleries and other recreational areas, where the final design of the buildings which will be injected locality theme, by the morphology of the swallow nest itself. The combination of mass forms and contextual programs produces a building with a different but harmonious concept to positively and symbolically change the current perspective of the city.

Organizational behavioural patterns of Sport FacilitiesThis article develops hypotheses on how different steering methods influence patterns of action in Sport Facilities. It is firstly argued that the sport facility run by the City Council seen from a normative institutional perspective will focus on other user groups than those who use the facility today. This is due to an increased focus from the City Council on Sport for All. Secondly, from a rational institutional perspective, the sport facility run by the City Council will keep focus on existing users and public welfare institutions due the transaction costs of focusing on new users. Thirdly, private nonprofit sport facilities seen from a normative institutional approach might focus on existing users due to a ‘logic of appropriateness’ established between the users and the sport facility. Finally, seen from a rational institutional perspective on non-profit private sport facilities, the hypothesis is that they will have an increased focus on attracting more activity to the sport facility as they will benefit economically. Which of these hypotheses that is most valid is an empirical question that needs to be tested in additional studies.

Commissioned by the English East India Company to write about contemporary nineteenth-century Delhi, Mirza Sangin Beg walked around the city to capture its highly fascinating urban and suburban extravaganza. Laced with epigraphy and fascinating anecdotes, the city as ‘lived experience’ has an overwhelming presence in his work, Sair-ul Manazil. Sair-ul Manazil dominates the historiography of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century compositions on Delhi in Persian and Urdu, and remains unparalleled in its architecture and detailed content. It deals with the habitations of people, bazars, professions and professionals, places of worship and revelry, and issues of contestation. Over fifty typologies of structures and several institutions that find resonance in the Persian and Ottoman Empires can also be gleaned from Sair-ul Manazil. Interestingly, Beg made no attempt to ‘monumentalize’ buildings; instead, he explored them as spaces reflective of the sociocultural milieu of the times. Delhi in Transition is the first comprehensive English translation of Beg’s work, which was originally published in Persian. It is the only translation to compare the four known versions of Sair-ul Manazil, including the original manuscript located in Berlin, which is being consulted for the first time. It has an exhaustive introduction and extensive notes, along with the use of varied styles in the book to indicate the multiple sources of the text, contextualize Beg’s work for the reader and engage him with the debate concerning the different variants of this unique and eclectic work.

This chapter presents a reading of Plato’s Republic. The Republic is among Plato’s most complex works. From its title, the first-time reader will expect a dialogue about political theory, yet the work starts from the perspective of the individual, coming to focus on the question of how, if at all, justice contributes to an agent’s happiness. Only after this question has been fully set out does the work evolve into an investigation of politics—of the ideal state and of the institutions that sustain it, especially those having to do with education. But the interest in individual justice and happiness is never left behind. Rather, the work weaves in and out of the two perspectives, individual and political, right through to its conclusion. All this may leave one wondering about the unity of the work. The chapter shows that, despite the enormous range of topics discussed, the Republic fits together as a coherent whole.

Akrotiri Salt Lake is located 5 km west of the city of Lemesos in the southernmost part of the island of Cyprus. The evolution of the Akrotiri Salt Lake is of great scientific interest, occurring during the Holocene when eustatic and isostatic movements combined with local active tectonics and climate change developed a unique geomorphological environment. The Salt Lake today is a closed lagoon, which is depicted in Venetian maps as being connected to the sea, provides evidence of the geological setting and landscape evolution of the area. In this study, for the first time, we investigated the development of the Akrotiri Salt Lake through a series of three cores which penetrated the Holocene sediment sequence. Sedimentological and micropaleontological analyses, as well as geochronological studies were performed on the deposited sediments, identifying the complexity of the evolution of the Salt Lake and the progressive change of the area from a maritime space to an open bay and finally to a closed salt lake.

AbstractIn 2014 through 2018, Sichuan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and History Museum of Quxian County conducted a systematic archaeological survey, detection, and excavation to the Chengba site in Quxian County. The excavation uncovered 4,000sq m in total, from which 444 various features were recovered and over 1,000 artifacts were unearthed. The functional zoning of this site has been roughly made clear; the excavations of the western gate and important building foundations of the Guojiatai city site are important archaeological discoveries of the city sites of the Han through Western Jin dynasties, and at the checkpoint site on the waterway of this period was uncovered for the first time in China. The large amounts of bamboo slips and wooden tablets unearthed in the excavation provided important materials for the explorations on the management of the central government of the Han and Jin empires to the administrative areas of commandery and district levels and the social lives of the local people at that time.
