After globalization the role of Indian woman has been phenomenal. Our Indian sub-continent is gradually emerging as a powerful land since empowered women have started playing significant role for the socio-economic development of the nation. The transition of woman from the past to present is worth mentioning. Woman who once considered being the masters in the art of home making are now considered to be the forces that shape a country. The modern Indian women have honed their skills and have come to front line to fight against social restrictions, emotional ties, religious boundaries, gender biasedness and cultural clutches. She can now be seen working on par with men in every walk of life. As compared with past, Indian women in modern times have achieved a lot but in reality they have to still travel a long way. Women have always been contributing to enable the economy achieve tremendous progress. But it is the gender bias that still exists at every social stratum, even in the most educated and developed society, is unable to account for the visible contribution of women in every field. The Indian women have come out of the image of ornamental value. Keeping the Indian values intact, the Indian women have surpassed all the limitation to find a place in the growing socio-economic scenario.

Evidence supporting the budding role of social enterprises in fostering sustained socio-economic development of regions and communities across the globe are evolving continuously. Hence, the global upsurge in the social enterprise research and practice is appreciated, considering social enterprise primarily is presumed to have great potential in solving a range of social problems. Even though social entrepreneurship and social enterprise have remained central and thought-provoking in the realm of scholarly investigation for the past few decades, the emerging literature on social enterprise and their role in economic development is riddled with theoretical inconsistencies and definitional controversies. Thus, little or no rational knowledge about their functioning and management is available. Further, factors influencing the sustainability of social enterprises have rarely been explored and deliberated. Thus, the purpose of this chapter is to identify and analyze the factors which influence the sustainability of social enterprises with focus on India.

Ploča Island, as it is called by its inhabitants and the inhabitants of the local area, or Drvenik Mali, as it is usually called in official records and on the maps (3.43 sq. km, 54 inhabitants in 2001) is a part of Trogir Islands in central Dalmatian archipelago. It is located near Drvenik (Veli) Island and the adjacent islets and rocks, and together they make a specific insular area with certain problems concerning spatial development and survival both in the past and in modern times, at the dawn of the 21st century. Within the project titled Geographical Bases of the Development of Small Croatian Islands we did a field research in 2003 and analyzed different data sources in order to investigate the basic natural-geographic features of the island, particularly for the purpose of its modern and future socio-economic development. In order to realize and define the modern valorization of the island, we took particular interest in geographic position, geomorphologic, vegetational and hydrographic features, as well as in demographic and economic structures.

The article deals with the importance of the Italian state intervention in the 20th century in selected sectors of the economy (in regional terms) on the subsequent socio-economic situation of the regions. Due to the observed today very large differentiation of the regions, the question is whether and to what extent the central policy of the Italian state of the post-unification period influenced the disproportions occurring today? The article consists of three main parts: the first outlines the contemporary socio-economic differentiation of the regions, the second presents the economic condition of the regions after the unification of the country, and the position of the state, and the measures it has taken, including repair programs used to improve the socio-economic conditions of the regions, the third part assesses the relevance and legitimacy of the implementation of these measures in the context of the current situation of the country. The aim of the article is to indicate the importance of the role of state policy, and the decisions taken in the past on the contemporary economic condition of Italian regions. Thus, the author attempts to explain the permanent, and in some areas still deepening, differences in the socio-economic development of Italian regions.

Reversion to Islam while opening golden opportunities for a revert in terms of divine guidance and spiritual salvation is coming with somewhat insurmountable challenges in terms of Islamization of the self, family and contributions to the overall development of Malaysia as a multi-religious country. This is especially so when Islam as an official religion has made the issue of Islamization of the Malaysian society and its systems amongst the pivotal national agendas in the country.  As to what is the role of Chinese Muslims (reverts) in the process, studies, among others, have purported to present the statistics about their share in socio-economic development. Similarly, empirical studies point to the odds faced by this community at personal, family and community levels in their path for transition to the full Islamic way of life. To the presenters of this paper, however, the macro dimension of what it means to become a Muslim which is essential for adjustment to the Islamic requirements has not been sufficiently highlighted in discourses in the area. Accordingly, this paper presents the position statements on Islamic expectations from Chinese reverts with the purpose of motivating them to achieve greater things in the area of Islamization of their community and the nation to the effect. Keywords: Chinese converts, Islamization, expectations and challenges.

The mid-1990s through the first decade of the new millennium marked an increase in publications pertaining to war and violence in the ancient past. This review considers how scholars of the past decade have responded to that work. The emerging consensus is that war and violence were endemic to all societies studied by archaeologists, and yet the frequency, intensity, causes, and consequences of violence were highly variable for reasons that defy simplistic explanation. The general trend has been toward archaeologies of war and violence that focus on understanding the nuances of particular places and historical moments. Nevertheless, archaeologists continue to grapple with grand narratives of war, such as the proposition that violence has decreased from ancient to modern times and the role of war and violence in state formation and collapse. Recent research also draws attention to a more expansive definition of violence. Expected final online publication date for the Annual Review of Anthropology, Volume 50 is October 2021.
