Every human society is pruned to one kind of crisis or the other. Nigeria as a nation is not exempted. In Nigeria since her independence in 1960, it has been bedeviled with one crisis or the other, among which are ethnic, political and religious crisis. To resolve these crises, different methods of conflict resolution have been employed without lasting success. This paper is a critical examination of the functions of religion in ensuring peaceful coexistence in Nigeria. From the earliest time of human existence on earth, humans in every generation have encountered divergence typology of religious experiences which makes man to be pruned to experience more. Looking at it from a sociologically perspective, religion is a complex phenomenon that is mixed with culture yet, constituted by cultic practices of rituals and worship; and also, of a doctrine and an institutional organization. The dogmatic sphere of a given religion is inevitably difficult to ascertain, because it consists of a complicated and expansive system of beliefs that are organized throughout the generations of believers. The findings of this research have shown that the problems of religious disharmony, disunity, intolerance and non-peaceful coexistence among the numerous adherents of religions in Nigeria can be resolved by the positive roles religion plays. The paper concludes that Nigeria as a country has reached a philosophical and historical epoch where it is necessary to abandon the negative and anachronistic aspects of her culture and religion and integrate the positive elements of religion.

<p>Tulisan· ini membahas secara sosiologis fenomena terjadinya berbagai kekerasan massa. Selanjutnya akan difokuskan pada agama sebagai salah satu variabel penting yang perlu juga dilihat dalam setiap peristiwa kekerasan terjadi. Meskipun kekerasan bukan semata-mata dipicu oleh agama, tapi seringkali agama dimanfaatkan untuk memberi legitimasi. Anggapan seperti ini segera mengundang diskursus karena merefleksikan kenyataan paradoks dengan misi yang diemban oleh agama. Karena itu dalam konteks ini, agaknya perlu dipertegas tempat sosiologis, sehingga dengan mudah dapat dideskripsikan kaitan agama dengan kekerasan. Dalam hal ini, tata nilai dan moral dapat dijadikan pandangan hidup bagi masyarakat manusia, tetapi di pihak lain agama juga kadang-kadang dapat menjadi pemicu konflik yang pada urutannya dapat menimbulkan kekerasan atau pun perselisihan yang meluas. Meskipun dalam batas tertentu, perselisihan itu sendiri mempunyai nilai positif dan negatif. Teori konflik dalam sosiologi keagamaan cenderung mementingkan peran self interest dalam perilaku manusia termasuk perilaku yang bersifat religius. Karena itu, dengan optimalisasi peran agama, kekerasan clan konflik dalam masyarakat dengan sendirinya dapat tereliminir atau diperkecil bahkan ditiadakan.</p><p> </p><p>This paper discusses sociologically the phenomenon of mass violence. It will then focus on religion as one of the important variables that need to be seen in any violent incident. Although violence is not solely triggered by religion, it is often used to legitimize religion. This kind of opinion immediately invites discourse because it reflects the reality of paradox with the mission carried by religion. Hence in this context, it seems necessary to emphasize the sociological place, so that it can easily be described as a religious link to violence. In this case, values and morals can be used as a worldview for human society, but on the other hand religion can sometimes be a trigger of conflict that in a sequence may lead to widespread violence or dispute. Although in some respects, the dispute itself has a positive and negative value. Conflict theory in religious sociology tends to emphasize the role of self-interest in human behavior, including religious behavior. Therefore, by optimizing the role of religion, violence and conflicts within society can in itself be eliminated or minimized and even eliminated.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p>

Orderly international community and international law are determined by a national court. Essentially, the national court must be competent to maintain the balance between the national interest which based on the national sovereignty as well as the provisions of international law within the framework of peaceful coexistence. This article reviews the role of national courts in creating and developing the customary international law. As it turns out in practice, however, it has certain weaknesses, particularly in view of the accountability and legitimacy aspects of its establishment. This purpose could be achieved if national courts were able to maintain a balance between the national interest based on the sovereignty of State on the one hand and the provisions of international law on the other. The function of the national court was to maintain a balance between international law and national law.

This chapter introduces the topic of religion and literature, theorises the novel as a secular genre, and develops a concept of religion as the other in the Arabic novel. It begins with a discussion of the relationship between religion and literature, identifying imagination, metaphorical language and mythos as areas of overlap, before turning to the question of religion and the Arabic novel as a modern form which eschews faith and dogma but is nevertheless packed with religious themes, images, characters, language and intertextuality. This is accounted for by the form’s secularism, which is theorised in terms of Charles Taylor’s conditions of belief. Literary secularism is not static and stable however, thus religion emerges as the other in the Egyptian novel, with all the ambivalence which alterity characteristically entails. This religious other calls into question postcolonial studies’ over-valorisation of the East/West binary insofar as it has obscured the critical role of religion in Arab postcolonial literature and identity.

We have known for more than 45 years that microplastics in the ocean are carriers of microbially dominated assemblages. However, only recently has the role of microbial interactions with microplastics in marine ecosystems been investigated in detail. Research in this field has focused on three main areas: ( a) the establishment of plastic-specific biofilms (the so-called plastisphere); ( b) enrichment of pathogenic bacteria, particularly members of the genus Vibrio, coupled to a vector function of microplastics; and ( c) the microbial degradation of microplastics in the marine environment. Nevertheless, the relationships between marine microorganisms and microplastics remain unclear. In this review, we deduce from the current literature, new comparative analyses, and considerations of microbial adaptation concerning plastic degradation that interactions between microorganisms and microplastic particles should have rather limited effects on the ocean ecosystems. The majority of microorganisms growing on microplastics seem to belong to opportunistic colonists that do not distinguish between natural and artificial surfaces. Thus, microplastics do not pose a higher risk than natural particles to higher life forms by potentially harboring pathogenic bacteria. On the other hand, microplastics in the ocean represent recalcitrant substances for microorganisms that are insufficient to support prokaryotic metabolism and will probably not be microbially degraded in any period of time relevant to human society. Because we cannot remove microplastics from the ocean, proactive action regarding research on plastic alternatives and strategies to prevent plastic entering the environment should be taken promptly.

The application of the word ‘dialogue’ has a life as long as history and the old texts of religions are full of dialogues prevailing among different religious people. Reviewing and analysing the background and history of religious dialogue in the world, more than anything else, we understand the principle of necessity and position of dialogue as a common and public principle among religions, which in a broader view has been acceptable to most, if not all, religious people. This issue indicates that a spiritual and inherent sense is within the substantial core of all humans towards dialogue, which as a natural and inherent feature has been prevailing from the beginning of creation up to the present, and it will continue so. Firstly, employing the dialogue or saying and listening either to the inner self or the other people, when it is being formed with a commitment to human principles, will make human overpass a self-oriented attitude and recognition other persons. Secondly, it makes him/her listen and tolerate others’ views. Thirdly, it makes him/her be committed towards the principle of tolerance and recognise of the other(s) as well. On this basis, the continuity of the principle of dialogue and emphasis on this innate tradition will cause the spread of the culture of tolerance, peace and tranquillity. Furthermore, distancing from dialogue will lay down grounds for a self-oriented attitude, prejudice, pride, omission of others and violence in human society. On this case, while giving originality to dialogue, Islam clearly and firmly puts dialogue forth as a basic principle in human relations and a base to achieve the common ideals of human communities, which are discussed in detail in this article.

This article aims to extend our understanding of the role of capital markets in present day capitalism. It starts from a critical examination of established terms, shareholder value, corporate governance and financialisation, before suggesting a new generic term, coupon pool capitalism. The second half aims to demonstrate that, unlike the other terms, the coupon pool concept distinctively emphasises the generation of contradictions and instabilities. Empirical evidence is used to support the concept and explore dynamics.

Such initiatives involve the struggle against injustice on the one hand and a practice of the "wider ecumenism" (dialogue of histories, theologies, spiritualities, and life) on the other.

Domestic scholars interested in the study of socio-religious conflicts have a very difficult task. In the absence of their own theoretical tradition in the field of conflictology, the long domination of ideological stereotypes and illusions about the role of religion in society, and in the context of the uniqueness of those socio-religious processes that exploded in the 90s of the last century, the researchers found themselves in a real way. On the one hand, the achievements of Western conflictology had just begun to flow into scientific circulation and were still waiting for its processing (besides, in principle, it could not be automatically transferred to the domestic soil), on the other - for the emergence of their own thorough conflictological intelligence it took some time. , for tendencies of development of religious relations, of course, are viewed only with the run of historical events.

The subject of the research is the relationship between the phenomena of religion and migrations. The problem of their interaction has been inherent in human society since the ancient times; this problem is relevant one in nova days too. The consequences and prospects of development of this complex phenomenon in contemporary society are not sufficiently examined in science yet, especially in Sociology. In the paper, the role of religion in migration processes is studied based on the analysis of various sources, synthesis, induction, analogy, and abstraction. In course of research were analyzed numerous religious treatises, fiction works and classical sociological works, as well as works by foreign and Russian contemporary academic authors. The paper notes that the migration discourse has now shifted from the geographic and demographic to the socio-political domain. Religion has begun to play an important role at all stages of migration, both from the perspective of neoliberal and humanistic approaches. The paper aims to identify the role of the religious factor in the migration process and the role and logic of migration not only in inter-faith but also in intra-faith relations. It is shown that migration either serves as a catalyst for religious feelings and behavior or it strengthens the existing religious identity of migrants and enhances the quality of their religious feelings. The study highlights the need to improve the legislative framework of religious freedom, but also raises the question of how far religious communities can go in the process of advancing religious practice. In this regard, migrations often become a challenge for a secular state. Therefore, it is concluded that only an integrated approach would contribute to solving this problem.
