Abstract. This study aimed to investigate the effect of the administration of rice washing water in culture medium on the growth performance of Daphnia sp. This research using three different doses of rice washing water i.e 1 mL/L, 3mL/L, and 5 mL/L. Daphnia sp. was cultured with an initial density of 20 ind/L. Observed parameters include growth parameters (population density, size and specific growth rate) and water quality. This result showed that a concentration of 3 mL/L created the highest population of Daphnia sp. density about 620±20 ind/L, number small size (young stage) 81.2%, and the highest specific growth rate about 56.68±0.55%. The water quality content of  DO, temperature and pH during this study were in the good range of Daphnia sp. life and reproduction. The research has a conclusion that rice washing water can be used to nutritional sources of Daphnia sp. In the future, it is necessary to make further observations about the reproductive performance of Daphnia sp, given rice washing water through clone culture. Keywords: Live food, Population density, Rice washing water, Size of Daphnia sp., Specific growth rate

Catfish (Clarias sp.) is a freshwater fish that is widely cultivated because it is a leading commodity. Increased production of catfish resulted in extra area of cultivated land and water use. The technology suitable to be applied is aquaponic system. In addition to saving land and water use, Aquaponic is also improving business efficiency through the utilization of nutrients from food remains and fish metabolism. Water quality is an important factor for the success of cultivation. Maintenance catfish with the addition of probiotics in aquaponic system can be a solution for maintaining water quality, because it contains bacteria that can increase nitrite to nitrate changes that can be utilized for growth of plants and do not poison the fish. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of different probiotics in the aquaponic system towards growth rate and survival rate of catfish. The method that used in this research is experimental with completely randomized design (four  treat and five repeated) are P0 (control), P1 (probiotic A), P2 (probiotic B) and P3 (probiotic C). Analysis of data processed using Analysis of Variance. If there are significant differences then continued Duncan's Multiple Range Test. The results showed that the giving of probiotics in the aquaponic system is significantly different (p <0.05). The final conclusion is that the addition of probiotics in  aquaponic system affect the growth rate and survival rate of catfish. The highest specific growth rate (0.025%/ day) and the highest survival rate (77.8%) contained in the P2 treatment. The lowest specific growth rate (0.019% /day) and the lowest survival rate (64.4%) contained in P0 treatment (control). Keywords : Aquaponic, Catfish, Probiotic, Growth Rate, Survival Rate, Clarias sp.

Fulfill needs of Siamese gourami still rely on the catch from nature, so the population in nature has become decreased. The increase of Siamese gourami fish production from culture is still constrained by the survival rate and slow growth rate in the seed phase. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of Siamese gourami stocking density on the application of optimum temperature and salinity to growth performance for optimization of production capacity. Application of optimum temperature and salinity refers to the results of previous research, i.e., temperature of 28 °C and salinity 3 ‰. Siamese gourami seed with length of 2.96 ± 0.42 cm and weight of 5.27 ± 0.10 g used in the research. The experimental design used completely randomized design with four treatments, i.e. 1 fish L-1, 2 fish L-1, 3 fish L-1 and 4 fish L-1. The results showed that there were an effect of different stocking density on absolute growth weight and length, survival rate, specific growth rate and productivity. This is shown in the C treatment which growth was 4.95 ± 0.037 g, length 3.51 ± 0.01 cm, survival rate 93.47%, specific growth rate 1.22% and fish productivity of 625.76 g.

The study was performed to examine the efficiency of hybrid napier grass (CO-3) mixed diet on growth performance of freshwater fish Ctenopharyngodon idella. Alive grass carp fingerlings were collected from commercial fish farm in Thanjavur from June 2015 to May 2016. Fishes were divided into two groups and acclimated for 7 days before feeding trial. The fishes were fed with control and experimental diet. The growth parameters such ABW, ABL, BWG and SGR were thoroughly studied adopting standard procedure. The result of the study clearly indicates that there was a significant variation in growth of control and experimental fishes. The fish fed with CO-3 grass mixed diet showed elevated level in body weight, body length, weight gain and specific growth rate. This study suggests that the CO-3 grass mixed diet is more suitable for grass carp aquaculture practice. Keywords: Hybrid Napier grass, CO-3, Ctenopharyngodon idella, Specific growth rate.

ABSTRACT We developed a new numerical method to estimate bacterial growth parameters by means of detection times generated by different initial counts. The observed detection times are subjected to a transformation involving the (unknown) maximum specific growth rate and the (known) ratios between the different inoculum sizes and the constant detectable level of counts. We present an analysis of variance (ANOVA) protocol based on a theoretical result according to which, if the specific rate used for the transformation is correct, the transformed values are scattered around the same mean irrespective of the original inoculum sizes. That mean, termed the physiological state of the inoculum,α̂, and the maximum specific growth rate, μ, can be estimated by minimizing the variance ratio of the ANOVA procedure. The lag time of the population can be calculated as λ = −ln α̂/μ; i.e. the lag is inversely proportional to the maximum specific growth rate and depends on the initial physiological state of the population. The more accurately the cell number at the detection level is known, the better the estimate for the variance of the lag times of the individual cells.

Thai pangus polyculture with carps has been increasing for its high potential, however very few attempts were made to compare its growth using different types of feed. A research was undertaken to assess the effect of three types of feed on growth of Thai pangus (Pangasius hypophthalmus) and rohu (Labeo rohita) in polyculture system for 11 months from 15 May 2005 to 15 April 2006 in Khulna. Growth performance using Hand-made Feed (F1) was compared with two commercial fish feed, Sunney Feed (F2) and Saudi-Bangla Feed (F3) in three respective treatments of T1, T2 and T3. All treatments were carried out in triplicate at 24700/ha for Thai pangus and 4940/ha for rohu. Average initial weight of Thai pangus and rohu were 4.5 and 33.5g respectively. Growth performance was influenced by feed type. Average final weight of Thai pangus and rohu were 820 and 710; 846 and 770; and 872 and 717g with specific growth rate 1.58 and 0.93; 1.59 and 0.95 and 1.60 and 0.93 % day -1 in T1, T2 and T3 respectively. Feed conversion ratio was estimated 2.3 in T1, 2.1 in T2 and 1.96 in T3. The result showed a typical increasing trend of final weight and specific growth rate of Thai pangus along with the increasing of feed protein level. But rohu showed highest growth in T2 where protein level was 26-30% which was lower than that of T3 (Protein level 28-32%). The study suggests that suitable protein level and quality feed is required for adequate growth of fish.
