This research was conducted with the aim of knowing the relationship between grit and self-control which is a variable that can predict the lecture process and achievement. The study was conducted on 114 active students of the "X" Faculty of Medicine. The results of the calculation of correlation with the Spearman correlation method obtained correlation results of 0.531, meaning that there is a moderate, positive and significance relationship between grit and self-control in the 2015 Medical Faculty Students. The conclusion of this study is that there is a moderate relationship between grit and self-control. The researcher suggests that further researchers can conduct this research on respondents in other faculties, as well as gather further data regarding external and internal disorders that affect self-control. Keywords: grit, self control, college student

It has been noted that a person during the execution of a sentence encounters other ways of life, culture, customs and attitudes towards him. Important psychological mechanisms that allow a convicted person to survive in difficult social conditions, to adapt to imprisonment, are strategies of overcoming behavior and tolerance to uncertainty. Tolerance to uncertainty allows the convicts to overcome easily the tension that arises in connection with expectations of constant novelty and changes. The author of the article has presented the results of the study of tolerance to uncertainty and overcoming behavior of convicted men, who serve punishment for the first time and those who not. Ways of Coping Questionnaire (R. Lazarus and S. Folkman in the adaptation of L. I. Wasserman) and New Questionnaire on Tolerance to Uncertainty by T. Kornilova were used for the pilot study. The t-criterion Student for independent groups and the Spearman correlation analysis were used for mathematical and statistical processing. It has been revealed that convicts who serve sentences not for the first time more often use strategies of distancing, self-control and responsibility. Instead, the convicts who serve first sentences manifest the relationship between the level of intolerance and the distancing strategy. The growth of intolerance of convicts who serve the punishment not for the first term, leads to the propensity to overcome the problem through intellectual methods of rationalization, switching attention, removal, humor, depreciation.

Hip fractures in elderly patient are often treated with hemiarthroplasty. Hemiarthroplasty can cause various complications, one of which is leg legth descrepancy (LLD). The function of the hip joint is reduced due to these complications. Previous studies have shown contradictive results regarding the relationship of LLD to the function of the hip joint in post-arthroplasty patient's. This type of research is observational with retrospective study. The population in this study came from 2 hospitals in Jember was 53 patients and the sample was 30 people. LLD is measured by true leg length and apparent leg length, whereas hip joint function is measured by Oxford Hip Score (OHS). The data were tested by using Spearman correlation test. In conclusion, there was a moderate relationship between LLD true leg length to the function of the hip joint. This study does not support the implications of the LLD to the hip function because of weak relationship between LLD true leg to the hip function and moderate relasionship between LLD apparent leg length to the hip function.

The study aims to determine the relationship between hardiness and psychological well-being, in Bintara candidate’s of Korps Wanita Angkatan Darat (KOWAD) at Pusat Pendidikan KOWAD (Pusdikkowad) Bandung. Pusdikowad conducts educational activities with very strict routines and high discipline. For the education period 2016-2017, followed by 96 participants. Basically, the ability of respondents to persevere with the strength and courage to face this kind of pressing situation will be reflected through commitment, control, and feelings of challenge. The outcome of this hardy personality is the waking of psychological well-being. The two main concepts underlying this research are the hardiness theory of Maddi and Khoshaba (2005) and psychological wellbeing theory of Ryff (1989). The validity of hardiness instrument are between 0.34 - 0.72 with reliability of 0.821, while the validity of the psychological welfare are 0,30 - 0.70 with reliability 0.82. Research with correlation Spearman correlation method by SPSS 24.0 for Windows. The results of statistical tests show the correlation coefficient between hardiness and psychological welfare of 0.755 with significance level 0.00. Results illustrate taht any addition of hardiness strength it will be improve the psychological well-being of respondents. The proposed suggestion is to conduct a similar research but using pre and post-test design in order to get an idea of the hardiness and psychological wellbeing before and after education is implemented.

Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are characterized by a deviant pattern of brain oscillations during resting state, particularly elevated theta power and increased theta/alpha and theta/beta ratios that are related to cognitive functioning. Physical fitness has been found beneficial to cognitive performance in a wide age population. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between physical fitness and resting-state electroencephalographic (EEG) oscillations in children with ADHD. EEG was recorded during eyes-open resting for 28 children (23 boys and 5 girls, 8.66 ± 1.10 years) with ADHD, and a battery of physical fitness assessments including flexibility, muscular endurance, power, and agility tests were administered. The results indicated that ADHD children with higher power fitness exhibited a smaller theta/alpha ratio than those with lower power fitness. These findings suggest that power fitness may be associated with improved attentional self-control in children with ADHD.

Enabling people to send and receive short text-based messages in real-time, instant messaging (IM) is a communication technology that allows instantaneous information exchanges. The development of technology makes IM communication widely adopted in the workplace, which brings a series of changes for modern contemporary working life. Based on the conservation of resource theory (COR), this paper explores the mechanism of workplace IM communication on employees’ psychological withdrawal, and investigates the mediating role of work engagement in the relationship and the moderating role of self-control. Using the experience sampling method (ESM), a 10-consecutive workdays daily study was conducted among 66 employees. By data analysis of 632 observations using SPSS and HLM, results found that: (1) IM demands had a positive relation with emotion and cognitive engagement. (2) Emotion and cognitive engagement were negatively correlated with psychological withdrawal. (3) Emotion and cognitive engagement mediated the relations of IM demands and psychological withdrawal. (4) Self-control moderated the relationship between emotional engagement and psychological withdrawal.

Hirschi has repeatedly argued that the relationship between social learning variables and crime is a product of “self-selection” driven by low self-control (LSC). Akers’ has suggested that social learning mechanisms, such as affiliations with deviant individuals and acceptance of criminal definitions, can mediate the effects of LSC on crime. Interestingly, there has been little comparative work done to explore this mediation hypothesis in the realm of substance use for offender populations outside of the United States. This study helps fill these gaps in the literature by exploring the potential mediation effects of social learning variables on the relationship between LSC and inhalant use among a sample of 739 male offenders in South Korea. Our results provide strong support for the mediation hypothesis that LSC indirectly influences self-reported inhalant use through social learning mechanisms.
