Agrochemical use in horticultural cultivations generates negative effects, thus the need for searching to decrease or eliminate its use by means of other less toxic techniques. Agricultural homeopathy represents an alternative for ecological agriculture, impacting positively in cultivation development. The effect of four homeopathic medicines for human use were assessed in two centesimal dynamizations (7CH and 13CH) [(Silicea Terra (SiT), Natrum muriaticum (NaM), Zincum phosphoricum (ZiP) and Phosphoricum acidum (PhA)], and a control treatment (distilled water) on tomato plant germination, emergence, and initial development. The treatments were established under a randomized complete block design with three repiclates. Germination and emergence rate and percentage and morphometric variables (plant height, radicle length, dry and wet weight) were assessed, including the variables in stem diameter and wet and dry leaf weight, number of branches, leaves, and buds in the vegetative development stage. Signif icant differences were observed in all the morphometric variables assessed in function of the different development stages, homeopathic medicines, and their different dynamizations. During germination, greater growth in stem length was observed with ZiP-7CH (5.5 ± 0.98 cm) compared to the control group (4.3 ± 1.10 cm). During the emergence stage, the treatments SiT-7CH (6.6 ± 1.11 cm) and ZiP-7CH (5.9 ± 1.41 cm) increased stem length signif icantly whereas with PhA-7CH, the best effects were obtained in the variables assessed during the vegetative development stage, LT (94 ± 8.31 cm), leaf number (No hojas) (131 ± 27.71), fresh stem biomass (BFT) (17.20 ± 2.45 g), wet leaf biomass (BFH) (30 ± 7.72 g), dry leaf biomass (BSH) (2 ± 0.61 g), fresh root biomass (BFR) (10 ± 6.26 g), dry root biomass (BSR) (1 ± 0.43 g), and number of flower buds (No H) (6 ± 7.10). The homeopathic medicines applied impacted positively during the initial and vegetative development stages of tomato under controlled conditions. This research study represents and advance in the sustainable management of tomato cultivation.

ABSTRACT: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of reduced doses of the commercial mixture composed of fluazifop-p-butil + fomesafen, applied for the management of common weeds in beans. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized block design, with a 5x2+1 factorial arrangement and with four replications. In factor A, there were five percentual doses (100, 87.5, 75.0, 62.5 and 0.0%), in relation to the recommended commercial dose (2 L ha-1) of fluazifop-p-butil + fomesafen, which corresponded to 2.00; 1.75; 1.50; 1.25 and 0.00 L ha-1. Factor B was composed by two development stages of black beans (three and eight trefoils) and weeds: black-jack (two to four and four to eight leaves) and southern crabgrass (two leaves to one tiller and one to four tillers) with one weeded control treatment. The variables evaluated for the control of black-jack and southern crabgrass were: herbicide phytotoxicity to the crop, number of pods per plant, number of grains per pod, 1,000 grain weight and grain yield of the crop. The results demonstrated that the use of fluazifop-p-butil + fomesafen, at all evaluated doses evaluated and application periods, caused low phytotoxicity to the crop, less than 12%. The use of reduced doses of this herbicide presents efficient control of black-jack and southern crabgrass, mainly at the initial development stages of these weed species. The economic threshold dosage of fluazifop-p-butil + fomesafen to control these weeds was 1.23 L ha-1.

The application of bioactive substances in a minimum dose is an alternative to reduce the application of harmful agrochemicals in agriculture, particularly vegetables. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of four homeopathic medicines during germination, emergence, and vegetative development of cucumber plants (Cucumis sativus L.). The experimental design included two centesimal homeopathic dynamizations (7CH and 13CH) of Silicea terra (SiT), Natrum muriaticum (NaM), Magnesia phosphorica (MaP), and Arsenicum album (ArA) and a control (water) treatment. A completely randomized 2 × 4 + 1 block design was used in three repetitions. The variables evaluated were rate and percentages of germination and emergence, stem and radicle length, and fresh and dry weight of the aerial part and radicle. Additionally, during the vegetative development the diameter of the stem and the number of leaves and flowers were evaluated. With ArA-13CH, significant differences in germination were observed (53.33%) and with NaM-13CH longer stem length (107.07 cm) during vegetative development, compared to the control group (78.63 cm). Radicle length showed significant differences with the application of SiT-7CH (49.59 cm) compared to the control group (28.6 cm). During germination the best result in the radicle fresh and dry weight was recorded when applying ArA-13CH. In emergence, the greatest fresh radicle weight was obtained with MaP-13CH, and the largest stem diameter, number of leaves and number of flowers were obtained with NaM. The results obtained confirmed that the evaluated homeopathic medicines positively affected the initial stage and vegetative development of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) under controlled conditions. This research represents an advance in agricultural homeopathy for the sustainable management of vegetable cultivation.

Abstract The experiment was carried out in the greenhouse of the Agricultural Research and Experiment Station - Kirkuk University - College of Agriculture for the agricultural season 2020-2021. The experiment was started on 20-11-2020. Carnations were taken from the mothers before the start of the experiment and planted in culture dishes to complete the rooting process. Carnations were planted on terraces with a length of (20 m) and width (75 cm), and the distance between one line and another (30 cm) and between one plant another (30 cm) as well. Artificial lighting (white LED light factor, 40 watts) was used for four hours in addition to the natural light which started half hour before sunset. The intensity of lighting was measured by a light meter (Lux 6612). As for the mulching factor, the industrial mulching was used with white polyethylene and the natural mulching with shredded yellow corn residue with a thickness of 2.5 cm, in addition to the control treatment. The experiment was carried out in a split-plot system in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) and the treatment of illumination was placed in the main plots, while mulching was placed in the secondary plots, and the results were tested according to Duncan’s multiple range test at a probability level of 5%. The following characteristics were studied: plant height (cm), plant total chlorophyll content (CCI), number of days required for flowering (day), number of flower/m2, and flower stem length (cm). The results showed the superiority of lighting and mulching treatment in all vegetative and flowering traits under study.

The production of the turnip (Brassica napus L.) in Ecuador, depends largely on the use of agrochemicals, whose indiscriminate use causes negative effects on the environment. Agricultural homeopathy has emerged as an ecological alternative to improve the health status of plants. In order to help improve the sustainable production of vegetables, the effect of two centesimal dynamics (7CH and 31CH) of three homeopathic medicines for human use was evaluated: Silicea terra (SiT), Natrum muriaticum (NaM) and Phosphoricum acidum (PhA ), on the germination, emergence and vegetative development of B. napus plants, applying a completely randomized 2×3+1 block design with three repetitions for the three stages of the crop. The variables evaluated during germination and emergence were: percentage of germination and emergence, length of stem and radicle, fresh weight of the aerial part and radicle, dry weight of the aerial part and radicle. The variables evaluated during vegetative development were: plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, weight, leaf area and productive yield. Signif icant differences were recorded in all the variables and stages of development studied. The highest germination values corresponded to SiT-7CH and PhA-7CH (100%), surpassing the control group (83.5%). The PhA-7CH and NaM-31CH treatments stimulated stem growth in the germination stage (3.40 cm) and NaM-7CH root growth (4.07 cm) in the emergence stage. During the vegetative development, the plants with the highest production were those treated with NaM-7CH. The highest prof itability of the crop (71.33%), with a benef it / cost ratio of 1.7% was obtained with SiT-7CH. The results obtained suggest that agricultural homeopathy has potential in horticulture, since all treatments favorably influenced the response variables during germination, emergence and vegetative development of (Brassica napus L.).

ABSTRACT The use of ripeners has been a common practice in the sugarcane culture. The application of these products is often performed through aerial spraying, which increases the chances of drifting of the ripeners- molecules over the surrounding crops, such as maize. In order to study possible phytointoxication on maize caused by sulfometuron-methyl application, a field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of sulfometuron-methyl sub doses on maize when applied at the V4 and V8 development stages. The experiment was installed in a randomized block design with four replications. The treatments followed a 2 x 5 factor scheme, with the first factor corresponding to development stages of maize during which the ripener was applied (V4 and V8) and the second factor was related to sulfometuronmethyl sub doses (0; 0.45; 0.90; 1.35 and 1.80 g a.i. ha 1). The maize crop showed phytotoxicity with the use of 0.45 g a.i. ha-1 of sulfometuron-methyl; it was more severe when the application occurred at the development stage V8, leading the plant to death at the highest used dose. Furthermore, it was also possible to observe negative changes in the morphological and production components of maize plants. The SYN 7G17 maize hybrid is highly susceptible to sulfometuron-methyl. The occurrence of sulfometuron-methyl deposits at higher doses or at different development stages of the crop may reflect more severe phytotoxic effects than the ones observed in this study.

Research of blanched asparagus has begun at the University of Debrecen Institutes for Agricultural Research and Educational Farm Research Institutes of Nyíregyháza in 2011. Establishment of the plantation took place in May 2011. The Grolim hybrid was used in the trial, 16 medium plot trial area has been formed under field conditions, with four repetitions and 36 m2 plot size. In the course of our studies, the effect of different nutriment supply methods (untreated, manure, sheep manure compost, fertilizer) has been analysed on the spear yield of the Grolim asparagus hybrid between 2013 and 2017. In our studies, the beginning of vegetative growth has been recorded upon the constant presence of 10 °C of average soil temperature in the case of the Grolim asparagus hybrid. The beginning and length of spear harvesting are both influenced by the time and dynamics of initial development in spring. During the analysed period, the dates of spear harvesting were various, the earliest being on 23rd March, 2014 and the latest on 23rd April, 2015; the rest of the three years have been varied within this one month interval. The total of heat units required for the vegetative development of spears has been determined; it provides important information for cultivation practice. Spear yields turned out to be hectic during the analysed period. In 2013 and 2014, yields have surpassed the amount of 50 kg/harvest period/plot in the case of every treatment version. However, in 2015 a significantly lower specific yield has been recorded due to the unfavourable weather conditions in spring; a yield decline of nearly 50% was recorded in the case of the control treatment compared to the previous years. Yield was also lower in the rest of the fertilization treatments compared to 2014; however, in these cases, the degree of yield decrease was around 5–10%, which suggests the yield stabilising effect of fertilization. In 2016, a slight yield increase was measured in comparison with the base year. In 2017, there was a decline of yield in the control treatment; however, the different fertilization treatments resulted in yield increase as compared to previous years. On the basis of our studies, it is clear that the best yield results have been provided by the artificial fertilization treatment in all of the five analysed years. It was followed by the sheep manure compost and manure treatments in terms of their effect on spear yield. During the three harvesting periods, the lowest yield on acidic sandy soil was recorded in the case of the control treatment. The most remarkable effect of nutriment treatments has been realised in terms of the decreased deviation of yield results, which perfectly represents the yield stabilising effect of nutriment supply in the case of perennial crops – asparagus – as well, even on a poor nutriment supply characteristic sandy soil.

This study was conducted to determine the appropriate rate of vermicompost that would influence the agronomic performance and evaluate the effect of combining the different vermicompost rates and the specific rate of inorganic fertilizer that could effectively promote the growth and yield of sweet corn. The experiment was conducted in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with ten (10) treatments and three (3) replications. The treatments are as follows: T1 – 120-90-60 kg ha-1 inorganic fertilizer or farmers’ practice, T2 – 5 t ha-1 vermicompost + 102-76.5-51 kg ha-1 inorganic fertilizer, T3 – 10 t ha-1 vermicompost + 96-72-48 kg ha-1 inorganic fertilizer, T4 – 20 t ha-1 vermicompost + 84-63-42 kg ha-1 inorganic fertilizer, T5 – 40 t ha-1 vermicompost + 60-45-30 kg ha-1 inorganic fertilizer, T6 – no application (control group), T7 – 5 t ha-1 vermicompost, T8 – 10 t ha-1 vermicompost, T9 – 20 t ha-1 vermicompost, and T10 – 40 t ha-1 vermicompost. Results of the study revealed that the different treatments influenced the ear yield (husked and unhusk), kernels per ear, weight per ear, percentage of marketable ears, percentage of barren plants, and percentage of double ears. The treatments 1 to 5 yielded significantly higher compared to the control treatment (T6) which implies that the application of vermicompost with 50 - 85% of the farmers’ practice had significant improvement in sweet corn production. The application of 20 t ha-1 vermicompost + 70% of farmers’ practice achieved the highest yield at 12.50 and 15.80 t ha-1 husked and unhusk ears respectively. Highest percentage of double ears at 29.69% was attained on the plants applied with 40 t ha-1 vermicompost + half of farmers’ practice. The yields of sweet corn applied with vermicompost alone were not comparable to treatments applied with inorganic fertilizers.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the tolerance of guava rootstocks under salt stress in the initial development stage. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse in a randomized block design in a 5 x 3 factorial, consisting of five levels of irrigation water salinity (0.6, 1.2, 1.8, 2.4 and 3.0 dS m-1) and three guava rootstocks (‘Crioula’, ‘Paluma’ and ‘Ogawa’), with four replicates and four plants per replicate. Emergence, growth and phytomass accumulation were evaluated 30 days after sowing. Increased salinity restricts guava emergence, growth and phytomass accumulation, and the most drastic effects occur at levels higher than 1.8 dS m-1. The cultivar ‘Crioula’ is more tolerant to salinity in relation to ‘Paluma’ and ‘Ogawa’, and can be indicated as rootstock.

Crop interference and weed-competitive cultivars are a component of integrated weed management, but their use requires understanding the extent to which rice can interfere with weed growth and how weeds may respond to rice interference. Growth of blistering ammannia was studied in a screen house by growing it alone or with rice seeded in rows (20 cm) or broadcast at the rate of 25 and 75 kg ha−1. The growth of blistering ammannia was similar whether grown with rice seeding rates of 25 or 75 kg ha−1or with broadcast or row-seeded rice, suggesting that the weed is a weak competitor if rice is planted uniformly. Rice interference greatly reduced the number of blistering ammannia leaves and leaf, stem, total shoot, and root biomass. However, the weed showed the ability to reduce the effects of rice interference by increasing leaf and stem biomass in the upper half of the plant, and increasing specific stem length. At 11 wk after planting, blistering ammannia had 71 to 80% leaf biomass in the upper half of the plant when grown with rice interference compared with only 29% when grown without rice interference. Despite such plasticity, blistering ammannia shoot and root biomass at final harvest decreased by 94 to 99% when grown with rice compared with its biomass without crop interference. These results suggest that blistering ammannia is a poor competitor and uniform rice density could be very effective in suppressing blistering ammannia in direct-seeded rice systems.

Homeopathic medicine is a discipline of universal medical science, with increasing application in humans, animals and plants. The acceptance of agricultural homeopathy is increased by the safety and proven effectiveness of its ultra-diluted and agitated medicines, to stimulate the germination, development, growth and production of various plant species. The present work aimed to evaluate the effect of homeopathic medicines on physiological indicators and the development of Yorimón beans (Vigna unguiculata L., Walp.) var. Paceña. A completely randomized design was used with two homeopathic treatments, Manganum metallicum 31CH (MnM-31CH), Magnesium-manganum phosphoricum 3CH (MaMnP-3CH) and as a control treatment destilled water (DW), with six replicas per treatment. Photosynthetic rate, perspiration, total chlorophyll, leaf area and fresh and dried biomass of root, stem and leaves were evaluated. An analysis of variance was applied and when there was a signif icant difference between treatments, a comparison of means (Tukey HSD, P ≤ 0.05). The results revealed a signif icant increase for all the variables evaluated with respect to the control treatment (DW), in the plants that received treatments (MnM-31CH and MaMnP-3CH). Fresh root biomass was the response variable with the highest percentage increase (111.2%) and was recorded in the plants treated with MnM-31CH, compared to the plants in the control group, without medication (DW). Likewise, in the treated plants (MnM-31CH and MaMnP-3CH) there was an increase greater than 40% in total chlorophyll and in photosynthesis. This conf irms the effectiveness of applied treatments and reveals potential of agricultural homeopathy, as an alternative to achieve greater eff iciency in the cultivation of V. unguiculata.
