In the context of current problems of sustainable development of the modern city, the issues of present and future of coastal areas occupy a key place. In large cities there is a shortage of the natural component of the coastal zone environment, while the priority is given to transport infrastructure, which leads to environmental degradation and deprives the coastal strip recreational use. For many coastal territories the main problems remain: expansion of transport infrastructure; intensive process of urbanization and building up of coastal territories; loss of natural components and landscape identity of coastal strips and water areas. In Moscow, these problems are complemented by the monotony and typical character of the architectural design of coastal areas. Integrated development of the environment of coastal zones can be realized by various methods, created on the principles of a balanced infrastructure. Bight of Benin coast is highly vulnerable to climate change and one of its negative effects: sea level rise. It affects the coastal zones of Ghana, Togo and Benin. Within these areas, a substantial impact is expected not only on livelihoods but also on key infrastructure in coastal areas, leading to the destruction of coastal line and its habitats, socio-economic mutations and beach erosion increase. In Togo, the erosion retreat, due to improper coastal and infrastructure management, has been estimated between 5 to 10 meters per year during the period 1955-1985 and 20 to 30 meters per year during the period 1985-2009, forcing the coastal road linking Lomé to Aného to be moved twice. Taking into consideration climate change, this figure will progressively increase. Under the African Development Fund 13th cycle (2014 - 2017), the African Development Bank (AfDB) is supporting the Togolese government’s effort of strengthening regional integration through the financing of transport infrastructure, in particular the “rehabilitation of the corridor Lome-Cotonou and transport facilitation project”. The main objective of AfDB project is to finance the related infrastructure and capacity building that will make coastal infrastructure, roads in particular, climate resilient.

Objective: This article describes and analyzes the main concepts of coastal ecosystems, these as a result of research concerning land-use change assessments in coastal areas. Design/Methodology/Approach: Scientific articles were searched using keywords in English and Spanish. Articles regarding land-use change assessment in coastal areas were selected, discarding those that although being on coastal zones and geographic and soil identification did not use Geographic Information System (GIS). Results: A GIS is a computer-based tool for evaluating the land-use change in coastal areas by quantifying variations. It is analyzed through GIS and its contributions; highlighting its importance and constant monitoring. Limitations of the study/Implications: This research analyzes national and international scientific information, published from 2007 to 2019, regarding the land-use change in coastal areas quantified with the digital GIS tool. Findings/Conclusions: GIS are useful tools in the identification and quantitative evaluation of changes in land-use in coastal ecosystems; which require constant evaluation due to their high dynamism.

The coastal zones of Siberian large cities are characterized by high demand at various historical stages. Coastal territories are considered as potential reserves of the urban environment, their functions have great dynamics and high natural potential. The objective of the research is identifying the influence of environmental factors on the zones’ landscape and town planning reorganization in the structure of the Siberian large cities' coastal territories. Research methods are an integrated approach which involves considering the research object as an element of a single town-planning structure, excluding the possibility of making limited and incomplete decisions. The study results are to build a green river facade as proposing solutions to environmental problems of “buffr zones”. Significance of the study is to preserve the environmental balance of the large Siberian Rivers’ territories. This comprehensive approach involves consideration of the research object as an element of a single town-planning structure. First of all it requires the identification of optimal territories for placing point objects in a complex terrain territory and choosing the most cost-effective and efficient reconstruction and revitalization methods, within the development of methods for their application in local conditions.

The analysis shows influence of a coastal relief on planning and functional development of big cities coastal zones of the average Volga region.

The work presented in this paper is twofold. We first outline the architectural design, the functional requirements, and the user interface of eMatch, an Android application which was inspired by the idea of fighting the loneliness we all witness in large cities. eMatch has the goal of connecting people with common interests that happen to be in the same geographical area. We then propose EgoSimilar, a new algorithm which computes the similarity between users and is implemented in eMatch. The algorithm is compared against two other well-known and widely used similarity computation methods and is shown to outperform them in terms of the most significant metrics used in our study.

The article proves that a systematic approach to the urban organization of coastal areas includes complex environmental and recreational tasks. The study examines in detail the need to create a comprehensive strategy for the restoration of the coastal zone. The complex of measures is substantiated, among which the activation of water protection functions of coastal areas, rehabilitation of disturbed territories, use of recreational and town-planning potential of coastal territories for formation of recreational base along water area, development of integrated system of management of processes of coastal zones and integration of ecosystems. The work separately highlights the possibility of creating a recreational cluster that will ensure the continuity of the natural framework, given the multi-vector formation of the urban environment. It is established, that the connection of the recreational cluster with the suburban green strip and water area will create a pedestrian recreational corridor in the city and beyond, as well as contribute to the greening of the city and influence the modeling of ecological infrastructure.

In the process of urbanization of large cities in different countries, there are similar problems of reorganization, involving the demolition of physically and morally obsolete buildings and structures, as well as the subsequent construction reorganization of the territories vacated or re-cut to the city. In the process of demolition of obsolete buildings and structures, as well as the construction of new buildings, inevitably significant amounts of waste and construction debris arise that should be recycled as much as possible into secondary building materials (to carry out the so-called «recycling» of waste). Types of construction reorganization of urban areas are divided into traditional, widely known and standardized (repair, reconstruction, restoration), and innovative, arising in the processes of reorganization of society. Among the innovative types of construction reorganization, renovation is currently the most relevant, meeting the need to renovate the dilapidated housing stock of cities. The article discusses the main types of construction waste generated during demolition and new construction, as well as the technologies used for recycling these wastes during the renovation of territories and pavements of large cities.

it is common knowledge that the transport problem is one of the most pressing problems of large cities and megacities, acquiring an increasingly acute urban development economic and social nature. Therefore, the relevance of the research topic has been dominated by the need to upgrade transport infrastructure of the Russian Federation. The creation of transport hubs (TH) is one of the most advanced areas of upgrading and development of transport infrastructure as it helps to improve the conditions of transport accessibility and form the unity of the entire urban space and its surroundings. In this research work, transport hubs (centers) of large cities were considered and analyzed. Drawing from examples of transport hub formation on the basis of stations with signs of transport intermodality were identified. The main goal of this study was to identify the main problems, current trends and advantages of creating such objects. Complex analysis is needed to achieve the goal of research studies, as well as experience in domestic and foreign practice of the formation, functioning and development of transport hubs. In view of the foregoing, it is safe to say that the formation and modernization of transport hubs are the primary tasks due to the real possibility of solving of urban problems.

Seawater temperature is an extremely important factor as it affects the ecological balance of marines ecosystems, the continental weather, and the earth's atmosphere. However, the pressure on both coastal and marine resources, the use of oceans as a wastes deposit, the increase of urbanization, and anthropogenic activities in coastal zones are all causes of thermal pollution. The degradation of water quality by any process that changes ambient water temperature constitutes a significant danger in many coastal areas in the world. The region of Tangier-Ksar Sghir overlooking the Mediterranean Sea is experiencing growth of population and increasing urbanization and human activities, in addition to the industrial and touristic activities along the coastline. These activities are the main sources of thermal pollution that have effects on human health and the environment in the region. So, it is very important to examine seawater temperature in order to protect the marine and coastal areas from thermal pollution. In the current study, an approach based on TIRS thermal band data was used to estimate sea surface temperature. The results showed a good correlation between in-situ measurements and the estimated values from Landsat8 images along the coastline of the study area.
