In this study, the effects of redesigned modeling activities on the academic achievement of 7th grade students and the student’s view about these activities were investigated. We use explanatory sequential mixed method design that is one of the mixed research methodology for this investigation. The quantitative part of this research established according to semi-experimental study with pre-posttest, and qualitative part of this study execute with the case study. Quantitative data were collected with multiple choice academic achievement tests, and qualitative data were collected with study papers, observation forms, forms of student’s view, and semi-structured interviews at the end of all activities. The quantitative data were analyzed with covariance analysis. Qualitative data were analyzed with content analysis. As a result, a statistically significant difference was found in favor of the experimental group on the academic achievement which influenced by modeling activities. This difference has been influenced by the presentation of the learning environment in which the students' attitudes and beliefs towards themselves and the lessons will be positively affected, and mathematical skills will be supported to increase success.

This study aims to examine the effect of “Formative Assessment (FA)” practices in “Assessment and Evaluation in Education” class on the academic achievement levels of prospective teachers. It uses a mixed research design. Quantitative data were collected by using double pretest-posttest design, which is one of the complete experimental design structures; while a semi-structured Interview Form was used to collect the qualitative data. The study group consists of a total of 220 prospective teachers who participated in a “Teacher Training Course” in Faculty of Education in Yildiz Technical University, Turkey during the 2017-2018 academic year. The data collection instruments included a 40-item multiple-choice achievement test (AT) chosen from a question bank in accordance with the course objectives and a semi-structured interview form. For the achievement test, reliability was achieved by the test-retest method (r=.95), and validity was secured by the “analytical” method based on expert opinion. Following the nine-week FA practices using the complete experimental double pretest-posttest research design, it was found that these practices (what do I recall? and what have I learned?) resulted in a significant difference in favor of the experiment groups. The responses of prospective teachers to the semi-structured interview form developed to collect qualitative data for the study were categorized into common themes, which demonstrate that the quantitative data are confirmed by the qualitative data regarding the FA practices. This harmony between the quantitative and qualitative data showed that FA practices (independent variable) are strong enough to affect the achievements of prospective teachers (dependent variable).

The general aim of the research is to examine the effect of field-related and technology-aided measurement and evaluation courses on students’ academic achievement towards measurement and evaluation and to determine their views about the practice. This research was conducted with a case study design. The participants of the study consisted of 28 pre-service teachers studying in the English Language Teaching Department in the spring semester of 2016-2017 at a state university in the South of Turkey. The study was carried out for one semester. In order to collect quantitative data, the Measurement and Evaluation Course Achievement Test developed by the researchers was applied twice before and after the practice. In the evaluation of the practice, semi-structured interviews were conducted with volunteer students in the study group, and qualitative data were collected. In the context of the analysis of quantitative data, the difference between the pretest and posttest achievement scores of the students in the study group was examined with dependent sample t-test. In the analysis of the interviews within the scope of qualitative data, the inductive approach used in content analysis methods was used. As a result of the research, it has been seen that the field-related and technology-aided measurement and evaluation course increases the academic achievement of the students. In addition, it was determined that the students had positive views about the course, they had difficulties with mathematical subjects and there were generally positive views about Excel practices but there were limitations in various aspects. Finally, it has been determined that there are positive views regarding the integration of the course with the field teaching, recommendations are made to improve improvement of the course about time and duration, and the course has various contributions to the professional life.

The flipped classroom has been widely applied in many educational settings. Thus, it is significant to understand how its implementation is perceived by students. This mixed-method study aimed to find out the fourth-year students’ attitudes at a university in Indonesia on the flipped classroom they attended. It was also aimed at exploring their perception of the benefits and pitfalls they experienced when attending the flipped classroom. Employing a convergent mixed-method design, the quantitative data were obtained from 75 students (n=75) who were asked to complete a questionnaire. For the qualitative data, 13 students, divided into two groups, were invited to participate in a focus group interview to explore their experiences in attending the flipped classroom. The findings indicated that the students had positive attitudes towards the flipped classroom (M=2.87) and reported several benefits they perceived. Nonetheless, aspects regarding motivation (M=2.50) and the use of videos (M=2.49) and other technological supports indicated negative attitudes and were considered as pitfalls in the implementation of the model. Implications and recommendations were addressed for the better implementation of a flipped classroom.

Background. Occupational Performance Coaching (OPC) aims to help mothers plan and manage theirs and their children’s occupational performance. Purpose. To assess the effectiveness of OPC in improving occupational performance and parenting competence of mothers of children with disabilities in an Indian context. Methods. Mixed method design was used. Thirty-six mothers were assigned to intervention or control groups. Occupational performance and parenting competence were measured at three time points. Semi-structured interviews were used. Findings. OPC had significant effects on children’s occupational performance ( p < 0.001), mothers’ occupational performance ( p < 0.001), and self-competence ( p = 0.003). There was also a significant difference between control and intervention groups in occupational performance ( p = 0.001) and satisfaction ( p = 0.003). Interviews revealed three themes: acceptance, self-learning, and challenges during OPC. Implications. OPC is effective in improving the occupational performance and parenting competence of mothers of children with disabilities in varied cultural contexts.

Textbooks are one of the essential types of materials that are extensively used in English as a second language classroom instruction. The current study tries to evaluate the textbook SUNRISE 9 based on six categories. This study intends to cover how those categories are represented in SUNRISE 9. The categories are the layout and design, activities, skills, language type, subject and content and conclusion. The present study aims at answering the questions about SUNRISE 9 from teachers’ and students’ opinions and finding out whether there is a statistically significant difference between the teachers’ and students’ responses with regard to the strengths and weaknesses of the textbook which are used in language classrooms in all basic schools in the Northern Iraq. Two data collection tools were carried out in the current study. The quantitative data were obtained using questionnaire for teachers and students with a total number of 375 9th grade students and 40 9th grade teachers. They were chosen randomly from Sulaimanyah city in the North of Iraq. The qualitative part of the study, semi-structured interviews were held among 13 teachers to gather more neccessary data. The findings reveal that the teacher participants have negative opinions towards most of the sections of the textbook and some others have not stated any opinions but the student participants generally have positive opinions about SUNRISE 9. For this English textbook SUNRISE 9, an empirical evaluative study and an in-depth method evaluation are also suggested to be conducted to find out more important results.

The important mediating influence of Coach Educators (CEs) delivering a programme of learning has been largely ignored in research seeking to find the key to effective CPD. This paper aims to bring CEs to the fore by reporting the experiences of 7 CEs and 2 Programme Managers delivering a sport National Governing Body coach development programme. Qualitative data were collected via semi-structured interviews and interpreted through the theoretical lens of relational interdependence (Billett, 2008) using a retroductive research strategy. The findings identified the subjective and idiosyncratic processes through which CEs developed their understanding of the programme resulting in individual differences in construal. The high degree of workplace affordance gave CEs autonomy to deploy their personal agency and intentionality to shape practice leading to wide variations in CPD delivery. The results suggest the subjectivity of CEs can have a potentially significant impact on the fidelity of the programme being delivered.

This study explores the perceptions of EFL instructors about their reflective practice and its effect on their professional development in a Saudi Arabian university. This study adopts an explanatory sequential mixed-methods approach to collect quantitative and qualitative data. Two study instruments were used; a survey questionnaire with a study sample of 100 male and female participants and semi-structured interviews with a study sample of seven female instructors. The findings show that some instructors in general have a positive perception of reflective practices and they utilize a diversity of reflective tools. Female instructors show a greater degree of involvement in a reflective practice than male instructors in three of the four examined dimensions (cognitive and meta-cognitive, moral and learner and reflective teaching in general). However, no significant difference is reported between males’ and females’ perceptions in terms of the fourth dimension (practical). Based on the findings, recommendations have been made to encourage reflective practices in the Saudi EFL context.

Purpose: The study sought to examine the influence of mobile phone use on sexual behaviour of university students: a case study of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kenya. The study specifically, sought to examine the effect of characteristics of mobile phones users, uses and gratification of mobile phones and the frequency of using mobile phones on sexual behaviour of university students in Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kenya. Methodology: The research design that was adopted was descriptive in nature. The study also used both quantitative and qualitative data obtained from the respondents using questionnaires and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) guides. Quantitative data was collected using questionnaires while qualitative data was collected using Focus Group Discussions. The study adopted a stratified random sampling technique to select the sample size from the three strata, which are the various Faculties in JKUAT. The study then used Fisher’s formula to arrive at an adequate scientific sample size of 384 students who were targeted using convenient sampling, that is those that are ready to respond to the questionnaires and the Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). The quantitative data in this research was analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics using SPSS v22.0. Results: It was concluded that male students are more likely to use protection consistently compared to female students. In addition, the findings imply that consistency in condom use is a factor that is dependent on the age of the individual. In addition, relationship status is a contributor to the behaviour of the students sexually. For those that are in serious relationships, their use of protection declines due to the build-up of emotional and intimate trust towards each other. The findings likewise indicate that the student’s usage of mobile phones correlates significantly with the consistent use of protection for safe sex. Those students who have had their phones since they joined Campus are more likely to practice safe sex. In addition, heavy users of mobile phones are likely to practice safe sex including those who browse the internet for news updates. Unique contribution to theory, policy and practice: The study recommends the media practitioners need to step up the production of morally acceptable media content and offer a platform for advertising and campaigning for sexual conduct by encouraging and stressing the use of protection. The Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education should actively involve the undergraduate students in reproductive information awareness campaigns for ensuring positive attitudes towards responsible sexual behaviour and promoting best sexual practices.

This research aims at examining the difference of aggressiveness in students Senior High School of First Muhammedan (SMU MUHI) Yogyakarta from parent’s rearings and parent’s jobs. It based on phenomenons, such  increase of fights along students, behaviors of students less polite to teachers, and others, especially that occurs in Yogyakarta. It indicated of aggressive behaviour. It may be caused of not right of parent’s rearings, and parent’s rearings has correlation with parent’s jobs. From these phenomenons, reseacher want to investigated about difference of aggressiveness in students Senior High School of First Muhammedan from parent’s rearings (authoritarian, democratic, and permissive) and from parent’s jobs (entrepreneur, official civil servant/PNS, and military) point of view to aggressiveness. Two hypotheses tested are as follows: (a) that there is a difference of agressiveness in students Senior High School of First Muhammedan (SMU MUHI) have parents tendency to authoritatif, democratic, and permissive, and b) that there is a difference of agressiveness in students Senior High School of First Muhammedan (SMU MUHI) have parents as entrepreneur, official civil servant, and military. Subjects of the research include seventy six students of first class and sixty seven students of second class in Senior High School of First Muhammedan (SMU MUHI), Yogyakarta and their parents, totally is one hundred and sixty person. The two instruments administered in data gathering (quantitative data) include parent’s rearings scale for students’ parent (within there was a identity of parent’s job), agressiveness scale for students, and interview (qualitative data). Variance analysis 2-stripes (Anava 2-jalur) were applied to analyze the data. The outcome shows the following: (a) there is a significant difference of three parent’s rearings to bring about aggressiveness with F=366.479, standar error p=0.000, and difference average is: authoritarian=69.344; democratic=79.283; permissive=87.862. (b) there is not a significant difference of three parent’s jobs to bring about aggressiveness with F=0.054, standar error p=0.583, and difference  average is: entrepreneur=77.632; official civil servant=76.436; military=76.960. From the result of parent’s rearings appeared that permissive is the most influential from all (authoritarian and democratic) to bring about aggressiveness in students of Senior High School of First Muhhammedan, Yogyakarta, and parent’s rearings hasn’t influence to bring about children’s aggressiveness.

With the development of sensing technology and the popularization of quantified-self devices, there are increasing types of health-related data that can be sensed, visualized and presented to the user. However, most existing quantified-self applications are designed to support self-management and self-reflection; only a few studies so far have investigated the social aspect of quantified-self data. In this study, we investigated the social role of quantified-self data by introducing the design and evaluation of SocialBike—a digitally augmented bicycle that aims to increase the user’s intrinsic motivation in physical activity through on-site quantified-self data sharing. We conducted a controlled experiment on a cycling simulation system. Two forms of SocialBike’s on-bike display were evaluated with 36 participants. We used the Intrinsic Motivation Inventory to collect quantitative data about users’ intrinsic motivation in physical activity; the cycling simulation system recorded quantitative data about user behavior. Qualitative data was collected through semi-structured interviews. We conducted paired sample t-test to analyze both types of quantitative data; qualitative data were analyzed by the method of thematic analysis. The results show that SocialBike’s front display significantly increased users’ intrinsic motivation in physical activity. A total of nine themes were identified from the qualitative analysis, providing supplementary explanations for the quantitative results and additional insights into the overall design.
