To make it easier for farmers in terms of maintenance and transportation of community-owned coconut and palm oil crops, the team tried to make a design for testing the thrust of a 250 Watt DC motor powered by solar heat for boat propulsion, by testing the boat propeller with variations in the diameter of the propeller 17.5 mm, 15 mm, 15.5 mm, 14.8 mm, and 14.5 mm, as well as testing with variations in driving rotation and variations in driving rotation with the number of gear teeth 11, 16, 20, and 22. From the calculation of the torque obtained is 1,090 Nmm so that the diameter is obtained propeller is 5 mm. Thrust force test results obtained vary depending on the diameter and variations of the rotation of the propeller drive so that an adequate diameter is obtained by using a diameter of 14.8 mm with a current of 9.2 A with a thrust of 7.5 kgf. Meanwhile, for an adequate variety of the driving speed, the number of teeth is 20 and the thrust is 7.5 kgf and the current is 10. This value meets the requirements because the current strength does not exceed 10 A. From the test results, it can be concluded that the design and analysis are very fulfilling needs.

Increased production of agricultural products is needed to maintain and improve the farm household's economy. Along with the increasing diversity of types of agriculture, especially agricultural oil palm and rubber crops. The diversity of farmers' ways to increase agricultural income by planting oil palm and rubber leaves farmers unfocused on one type of crop to be planted, some even switching from rubber to palm oil crops or vice versa. With the increase and utilization of the produce many farmers are hesitant to plant their land with oil palm or with rubber. To overcome the doubts in the community there needs to be a model with simulated results obtained with area, planting time, the same capital and produce different results. The expected result is to determine the ratio of production between oil palm and rubber.

This research was conducted for evaluation of contamination of pig fat on vegetable cooking oil using transmission polarization method. The sample used is palm oil that has been contaminated with chicken oil and pork oil, with variations of chicken oil and pork oil content. The light source used is a green laser with a wavelength of 532 ± 10 nm. Measurements are made by observing the change in the transmission polarization angle that occurs when no external electric field is provided and by external electric field generated from two copper plates given a voltage of 0-6 kV. Test results show that palm oil contaminated with pig oil has the greatest change in polarization angle compared to pure palm oil and palm oil that has been contaminated with chicken oil. This is because the content of saturated fatty acids in pig oil is greater than pure palm oil and chicken oil. With these results, the transmission polarization method is expected to become a method for the evaluation of halal of cooking oil. Keywords: Transmission Polarization, Electrooptics, Cooking Oil, Impurities of Lard, Halal

Lightweight concrete (LWC) has been identified as an innovative technique for construction purposes. Lightweight concrete can be categorized into three different types which are no-fine aggregate concrete, lightweight aggregate concrete and aerated concrete. This paper studied the characteristic of the lightweight concrete in term of mechanical properties utilizing the palm oil clinker (POC) as lightweight aggregates. Two mixes of lightweight concrete were developed, namely as POCC100 and POCC50 where each mix utilized 100% and 50% of total replacement to fine and coarse aggregates, respectively. The fresh and hardened POC concrete was tested and compared to the normal concrete (NC). The hardened state of the concrete was investigated through density test, ultrasonic pulse velocity, cube compressive, splitting tensile, flexural, modulus of elasticity and Poisson's ratio. From density test results, POC falls into the category of lightweight concrete with a density of 1990.33 kg/m3, which are below than normal weight concrete density. The mechanical properties test results on POCC100 and POCC50 showed that the concrete compressive strength was comparable about 85.70% and 96% compared to NC specimen, respectively. For the flexural strength, POCC50 and POCC100 were comparable about 98% and 97% to NC specimen, respectively. While splitting tensile strength of POCC50 and POCC100 was only 0.6% and 4% lower than NC specimen, respectively. In terms of sustainability of solid waste management, the application of the POC in construction will reduce the redundant of by-products resulted from the palm oil industries. After undergoing various testing of concrete mechanical properties, it can be concluded that POC aggregates was compatible to be used in ligtweight concrete mix proportion.

Synthesis of palm oil-based polyurethane (PU) and the formation of nanocomposite from a mixture of PU with clay filler has been performed. Polyol which is the basic material of PU is formed by epoxidation and hydroxylation process and then mixed with isocyanate. Clay used as filler in this study was obtained from the local area of North Aceh, which is a type of swelling of clay that has been modified with cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide surfactant. Nanocomposites are formed from PU with clay fill variations of 3%, 5%, and 8% by weight of the total mixture of 40 g. The resulting material is tested in character by some type of characterization. Based on the test results with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, the hydroxyl polyol group was obtained in groups of 3390.870 (O–H) and –NH as the PU microdomain structure was obtained at a wavelength of 2987 cm−1. Morphological test results using scanning electron microscopy revealed that the addition of modified clay increases the adhesion in the paint and PU coatings and also increases the gloss from the surface and homogeneous material. The thermal endurance test with thermogravimetric analysis reported that the addition of clay fillers in PU showed enhanced effects for better thermal stability in nanocomposite materials when compared with neat polymers. Samples of PU/clay nanocomposites with the addition of 8 wt% clay filler were the most optimum composites among other variations with the thermal degradation temperature value of 296°C. This research generates prospects for applying various industrial surface coatings that are resistant to corrosion and heat, have good mechanical properties, and are more environmentally friendly.

At present oil palm growers are facing problem to extract crude palm oil in Bangladesh. Processing of palm oil categorized into various forms but basic processing stages are essentially the same including harvesting, sterilization, bunch stripping, digestion, crushing, clarification and drying. Extracting of palm oil is very difficult by traditional method and oil recovery rate is very low. Although mechanical processing is costly but produces good quality Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and oil recovery rate is high. An electric motor operated oil palm crusher was designed and developed and tested in laboratory under the Department of Farm Power and Machinery, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh for processing of crude palm oil from fresh fruit bunch. The crusher was designed by using Auto-Cad software. It was fabricated according to design parameters. The major parts of the crusher were screw shaft, cylinder, hopper, hollow bars, pressure case cap, jamnut and frame which were fabricated by mild steel (MS), ball bearing, gear and pinion, line and idle shaft and spring were fabricated by carbon steel (CS) whereas driver and driven pulley were fabricated by cast iron(CI). Crusher was mounted on the frame. A 9 hp electric motor was used as a power source. Crusher was tested after fabrication and 3000 gm fresh fruits were used. About 700 gm crude palm oil, 800 gm oil cake, 1400 gm skum were collected from 2700 gm pretreated fruits. The crushing capacity and crude oil percentage of the crusher was 6.49 kg/hr and 25.93%, respectively. Rotating speed of screw was 40 rpm for smooth running. The weight of crusher was only 70 kg which is easy to operate by single person. The developed oil palm crusher may fulfill the demand of smallholder growers to extract oil from fresh fruit bunches.
