This paper deals with optimal injection molding process parameters for minimum short shot. In this study, analyses of injection molding process parameters were carried out to reduced defects and minimize short shots. Optimal injection molding conditions for minimum short shot were determined by the DOE technique of Taguchi and the analysis of variance (ANOVA) methods. For this study CPVC plastic specimen was tested. Determination of the optimal Injection molding process parameters were based on S/N ratios. According to results mold closing speed had significant effect on quality characteristic. Mold pressure and Injection pressure had no significant effect

The main aim of this paper was to describe the viscosity and injection mold filling behavior of PA6 with 15% of glass fibers. Injection molding is one of the most widely used processes for polymer products. The quality of these products is directly linked to correct choice of process parameters. It is necessary to understand the filling behavior of the polymer material during the injection molding process. The spiral flow test was carried out in this study to explore the effects of several injection process parameters. The resulting lengths of spiral flow were compared. The polymer material under test was Polyamide 6 with 15% of short glass fibers (trade name: Durethan BKV 15). Virtual testing as well as real testing was performed. A predominantly linear relationship between the flow length and the mold temperature, melt temperature and injection pressure is described here. A special mold was designed for this test.

Kata kunci: Reka bentuk eksperimen, mesin suntikan plastik, analisa varian, analisa regrasi This paper illustrates an application of design of experimental (DOE) approach in an industrial setting for identifying the critical factors affecting a plastic injection molding process of a certain component for aircond assembly. A critical to quality (CTQ) of interest is reducing process defects, namely short–shot. A full factorial design was employed to study simultaneously the effect of five injection molding process parameters. The five process parameters are backpressure, screw rotation speed, spear temperature, manifold temperature, and holding pressure transfer. Finally, the significant process parameters influencing the short–shot defect have been found. Empirical relationship between CTQ and the significant process parameters were formulated using regression analysis. Key words: Design of experiments, injection molding, analysis of variance (ANOVA), regression analysis

The present study analyzes the important characteristics of plastic injection molding machining process. The polypropylene (PP) material has used as a specimen and effect of melt temperature, packing pressure and injection pressure has been investigated on the tensile modulus and elongation. Total 20 experiments have been performed to analyses the results. Response surface methodology (RSM) was adopted for optimization of injection molding process parameters. The experiments were conducted by using central composite design. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) techniques was used for selection of significant and non-significant parameters. The experimental results show that the RSM influence elongation by 87.04%, 11.52%, 1.43% and tensile modulus by 85.35%, 11.4%, 3.25%. Keywords: Injection molding; polypropylene; tensile modulus; elongation

Short glass fiber reinforced plastics (SGFRP) offer superior mechanical properties compared to polymers, while still also enabling almost unlimited geometric variations of components at large-scale production. PA6-GF30 represents one of the most used SGFRP for series components, but the impact of injection molding process parameters on the fatigue properties is still insufficiently investigated. In this study, various injection molding parameter configurations were investigated on PA6-GF30. To take the significant frequency dependency into account, tension–tension fatigue tests were performed using multiple amplitude tests, considering surface temperature-adjusted frequency to limit self-heating. The frequency adjustment leads to shorter testing durations as well as up to 20% higher lifetime under fatigue loading. A higher melt temperature and volume flow rate during injection molding lead to an increase of 16% regarding fatigue life. In situ Xray microtomography analysis revealed that this result was attributed to a stronger fiber alignment with larger fiber lengths in the flow direction. Using digital volume correlation, differences of up to 100% in local strain values at the same stress level for different injection molding process parameters were identified. The results prove that the injection molding parameters have a high influence on the fatigue properties and thus offer a large optimization potential, e.g., with regard to the component design.

Abstract Energy efficiency is an essential consideration in sustainable manufacturing. This study presents the car fender-based injection molding process optimization that aims to resolve the trade-off between energy consumption and product quality at the same time in which process parameters are optimized variables. The process is specially optimized by applying response surface methodology and using nondominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA II) in order to resolve multi-object optimization problems. To reduce computational cost and time in the problem-solving procedure, the combination of CAE-integration tools is employed. Based on the Pareto diagram, an appropriate solution is derived out to obtain optimal parameters. The optimization results show that the proposed approach can help effectively engineers in identifying optimal process parameters and achieving competitive advantages of energy consumption and product quality. In addition, the engineering analysis that can be employed to conduct holistic optimization of the injection molding process in order to increase energy efficiency and product quality was also mentioned in this paper.

In order to obtain the optimal combination of process parameters for vertical-faced polypropylene bottle injection molding, with UG, the model of the bottle was drawn, and then, one module and sixteen-cavity injection molding system was established and analyzed using Moldflow. For filling and maintaining pressure during the process of infusion bottle injection molding, the orthogonal test table L25 (56) using CAE was designed for injection molding of the bottle, with six parameters such as melt temperature, mold temperature, injection pressure, injection time, dwell pressure, and dwell time as orthogonal test factors. By finding the best combination of process parameters, the orthogonal experiment was completed, the results were analyzed by range analysis, and the order of influence of each process parameter on each direction of optimization was obtained. The prediction dates of the infusion bottle were gained under various parameters, a comprehensive quality evaluation index of the bottle was formulated, and the multiobjective optimization problem of injection molding process was transformed into a single-objective optimization problem by the integrated weighted score method. The bottle parameters were optimized by analyzing the range date of the weighted scoring method, and the best parameter combination such as melt temperature 200°C, mold temperature 80°C, injection pressure 40 MPa, injection time 2.1 S, dwell pressure 40 MPa, and dwell time 40 S was gained.

Metal Injection Molding (MIM) is a wellestablished technology for manufacturing a variety of complex and small precision parts. In this paper, fundamental rheological characteristics of MIM feedstock using palm stearin are theoretically analyzed and presented. The feedstock consisted of gas atomized 316L stainless steel powder at three different particle size distributions and the binder system of palm stearin (PS) and polyethylene (PE). The powder loading used was 60vol % for all samples (monosize 16 µm, monosize 45 µm, and bimodal 16 µm + 45 µm) and the binder system of 40vol %(PS/PE = 40/60). The viscosity of MIM feedstock at different temperatures and shear rates was measured and evaluated. Results showed that, the feedstock containing palm stearin exhibited suitable rheological properties by increasing the fluidity of feedstock in MIM process. The rheological results also showed a pseudoplastic flow characteristics, which poses higher value of shear sensitivity (n) and lower value of flow activation energy (E), that are both favourable for injection molding process. The green parts were successfully injected and exhibited adequate strength for handling by optimizing the injection pressure and temperature.
