The main purpose of this paper is to present how an intensive collaboration between the National Portuguese Reading Plan and the School Libraries Network Programme plays an important role in the promotion of reading literacy as a baseline to develop all kinds of other literacy abilities and empower the role of school libraries and the collaborative work between the school community and the school library, by reporting on one of the most significant projects, which shows the relevance of this partnership. School libraries are a privileged structure in the school for skill development, not only in accessing information, available locally or remotely, enabling students with critical thinking, transforming information to knowledge, supporting curricula, but also in readers training and the promotion of reading habits, which is a basic tool for lifelong learning.

This article presents data on the impacts and changes caused by the Covid-19 pandemic on librarianship within the context of rural school libraries. We understand the work in libraries as a special activity that is only valued if contextualized. Thus, we question the role of the library and the librarian practices in the current pandemic scenario with the purpose of updating the debate on librarianship in rural schools. To this end, we conducted a bibliographic and exploratory field research mediated by the application of a questionnaire. We conclude by highlighting the precarious situation that prevents actions and activities to encourage reading and the dissemination of pedagogical resources to support school and school-community libraries.

How can a school library shorten the distance between institutions, professionals, students and teaching methods? How can a Teacher Librarian and a School Libraries Inter-district Coordinator cooperate to conceptualize new strategies, expand students’ learning experiences and reinforcing their involvement with the school library? How important is it for students to engage in different reading activities with partners from other European countries? How can a “Reading Plus Project” evolve to a “National Merit Idea Project” and to a “Comenius Project”, where the role of the school library as an open door to intercultural competences is emphasized? How can we take advantage of the new technologies to modernize the school library and promote digital literacy? With this paper we aim to give an example of good practices in school libraries in Portugal, hopefully giving inspiration to others to overcome barriers inside and outside their country.

Starting with a rereading of the information literacy theories, we characterized the development of this concept, distinguish it and relate it with associated terms. After this theoretical framing, we focused on the role of the information literacy in the school context. We present our study based in the analyses of information behaviour, reading habits and information practices of students in Vila do Conde municipal area, using the school library collections and technological resources, considering also the location, access and use of information. We do a brief general view over this group of school libraries in this municipal area, but we focused our analysis of the research universe in three schools of 1st level, one E.B. 2,3 and another secondary school, using an inquiry by a questionnaire. To better contextualise our study we also make the characterization and framing of each school library in its surroundings (city, rural and piscatorial) in order to allow a comparative analysis of the results.

This research is the extent to which efforts to optimize literacy culture through school libraries during the Covid-19 pandemic carried out by SD N 1 Pageraji Korwilcam Dindik Cilongok, Banyumas district. Data collection methods used in this study include: interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis technique is reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Programs in an effort to cultivate a literacy culture are compiled periodically, the daily program that has been implemented is by holding non-lesson book reading activities before learning begins, by sharing literacy corners throughout the school environment. The weekly program includes posting pictures / stories of activities on social media and making scheduled visits to the school library. Monthly program by making observation forms to assess students' progress in literacy. Semester program implemented by giving awards to teachers and students. These programs are implemented with a pattern of cooperation from all elements, namely the principal, teachers, education personnel, which will make the school library utilization program implemented properly.

This paper provides a study of the school library programs sponsored by the Evergreen Education Foundation (EEF) and identifies the vital role of school libraries in improving students’ information quality. Based on analyzes Strategies for building literacy skills in the library of Tianzhu No.1 High School, the study confirmed the program developed reading and literacy skills among students. As EEF programs continue to expand into other locations in China, it is the authors’ hope that this study may provide useful information and analysis based upon which decisions about future programs can be made. It is also their hope that this study provides impetus for more studies on the rural library programs in other areas of China or programs in other underdeveloped regions of the world.

In most countries, the introduction of computer technology in schools has seen the role of school libraries transformed. Adoption of new technologies are now seen to be enhancing school libraries’ ability to perform their mission, vision and role, that is, providing learners access to a wide range of reading material to enable them to acquire knowledge as well as ability to read books online. The Impact

The Carnegie Corporation of New York has embarked on a revitalisation programme of some African public libraries. The Corporation has made grants to those public library systems targeting previously disadvantaged communities. Those aspects of the programmes that the grantees have drawn up which could impact school library development in the recipient countries are highlighted here. The selected public libraries of Botswana, Kenya and five provinces within South Africa, as grantees of revitalisation awards are the objects of focus here. Seven other African countries that have benefited to a relatively lesser extent are mentioned as issues emerge that relate to them. Suggestions are made as to the impact some of these public library programmes could make on school libraries and school pupils.

This study intents to look at the English Language reading habits of Universiti Technologi MARA Johor undergraduates for the purpose of finding out the reading culture among the undergraduates and the strategies to enhance life-long reading habits. It will thus look at the internal and external factors such as self-motivation, availability of reading materials, role of peers, role of motivators (i.e. family, teachers, government, media) and competition from modern devices (i.e. computer, video games, television etc) that challenges the acquisition of life-long reading habits.
