Purpose: To compare the efficacy of two different suture types in levator plication for correction of congenital ptosis. Subjects and methods: Prospective comparative interventional randomized study involving 42 eyes of 42 patients aged more than 6 years with congenital ptosis and good levator action. The exclusion criteria were as follows: bilateral ptosis, history of previous surgery, fair or poor levator action, and associated other ocular diseases. Patients were randomized into group A, in which double-armed 5/0 polyester Ethibond were used, and group B, in which double-armed 5/0 Coated Vicryl® (polyglactin 910) suture material we used. Outcomes including eyelid height and stability of eyelid height over time were compared with follow-up data. The MRD was 4.05 ± 0.36 mm and 3.95 ± 0.34 after 1 week for both groups A and B, respectively. At the end of study follow up period (24 weeks), the MRD was 3.60 ± 0.42 mm in group A, and 2.52 ± 0.85 mm in group B. Conclusion: No difference in eyelid height between two groups in early postoperative period, but the postoperative eyelid height was more stable over time in the 5/0 polyester Ethibond group (group A) than in the 5/0 Coated Vicryl® (polyglactin 910) group (group B).

A clinical trial was conducted to evaluate the hematological and biochemical changes related to methotrexate in the treatment of lichen planus. A total of forty four patients with lichen planus, attendign at the department of Dermatology and Venereology, Bangabandhu Seikha Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka, Bangladesh durign the period of january 2009 to December 2010 were enrolled in this study purposively. Of them, 23 patients in group-A (case group) and 21 patients in group-B (control group) were selected randomly. The case group was treated with oral methotrexate and the control group was trated with betamethasone oral mini- pulse therapy. A decreasing trend of hemoglobin level and platet count was observed between two groups. An increasing trend of SGPT was observed among the case adn control up to 6th week of observation and then it decreased. This study also revealed abnormlity in platelet count and liver function test in both the groups. But the overall effects were less in cases than control. So it cand be concluded from this study that methtrexate can be used as an alternative saf drug therapy for the treatmetn of lichen planus. Aims: Intravenous cannulation causes pain, anxiety and frustration in patients along with changes in hemodynamic parameters. Infiltration of local anesthetic lessens the pain of intravenous cannulation. This study was performed to compare cardiovascular responses and verbal rating pain scores in two groups with and without local anesthetic infiltration prior to venous cannulation. Methods: This was a randomized study conducted in 100 elective surgical patients, divided into two study groups with 50 patients in each: group A (Control) and group B (local anesthetic infiltration). Prior to venous cannulation in group B, 0.5 ml of 1% lidocaine was infiltrated at the procedure site at dorsum of the wrist. Patients in group A were cannulated directly without local anesthetic infiltration. The hemodynamic changes pre and post cannulation and verbal pain rating scores were recorded by blind observers in all patients. Results: Demographic values in two groups were similar. Increase in heart rate from baseline value was significant in control group (p < 0.05). Post cannulation heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure were significantly higher in group A compared to group B for the first three minutes (p < 0.05). Amongst higher number of patients in group A, verbal rating pain score was significantly higher. Ninety-four percent of the patients in group B were pain free, comfortable and satisfied with the procedure. Conclusions: Intravenous cannulation can be made pain free with patient satisfaction and hemodynamic stability if carried out with prior local anesthetic infiltration. Background: Kidney stones has got high prevalence worldwide especially in our part of world and per-cutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is gold standard operative modality for renal stone management. Pain control after PCNL is the most important task for treating surgeon as effective pain control causes smooth patient recovery in post-operative period. For analgesia, many drugs can be used, out of which tramadol and nalbuphine always been in comparison for effective analgesic activity. Objective: To compare efficacy of tramadol and nalbuphine as potent analgesic in patients after PCNL. Study Design: A prospective randomized study. Settings: Department of Urology and Kidney Transplantation, Allied Hospital/Faisalabad Medical University, Faisalabad and Department of Urology, DHQ Hospital/Faisalabad Medical University, Faisalabad Pakistan. Duration: From September 2016 to September 2020 (4 Years). Methodology: 286 patients undergoing PCNL for either gender and sides enrolled in study according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Patients divided into Group A (Administered with tramadol) and Group B (administered with nalbuphine) and patients evaluated for pain up to 48 hours after surgery using 11-point numerical pain rating scale rating from0-10 where 0 is no pain, 1-3 mild pain, 4-6 moderate pain, 7-9 severe pain and 10 as worst pain and use of rescue analgesia observed in either groups. Data obtained and statistical evaluation done. Results: 286 patients enrolled from age 15-75 years with mean age of 40.2 years. Among 286 patients, 161 were male and 125 were female patients. Both groups A and B having 143 patients each. Analysis showed that tramadol has superiority over nalbuphine and need of analgesia is more in patient given nalbuphine (118 vs 31) as maintenance analgesic agent in post-operative period after PCNL. Conclusion: This study showed that tramadol has superiority over nalbuphine for analgesia after PCNL.

The purpose of this study was to compare the mechanical behavior of combination of microplate and miniplate with two standard miniplates for fixation of mandibular fractures in the interforaminal region on the basis of bite force and other clinical parameters. A prospective randomized study was conducted on 20 patients with mandibular fracture requiring open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) who were randomly categorized into Group A and Group B with 10 patients in each group. Ten healthy persons whose age and gender matched with study groups were included in control Group C. Pre- and postoperative bite force was measured at specified intervals in both the study groups and was compared with the control group. The bite force values were comparatively less in Group A than Group B, although there was no statistically significant difference. Also, bite force values were less in both the study groups when compared with the control group. No statistically significant difference was found in other clinical parameters such as infection, fracture mobility, and hardware failure. The results were suggestive that the use of microplate and miniplate combination in management of minimally displaced mandibular fractures in the interforaminal region provides stable fixation comparable to two miniplate combination.

This study aims to evaluate the effect of the frequency of playing a board game that simulates entrepreneurial experience called “Traders” on the university students’ resilience and self-esteem. Traders Board Game (TBG) was developed in 2015 with an aim to improve several entrepreneurship skills among young adults, and resilience being one of them. Pre and posttests of resilience have been done to 12 participants before they were divided into three groups: the control group, who did not play the game, the experimental group A, who played the game once a week for three weeks, and the experimental group B, who played the game twice a week for three weeks. Resilience was measured by adapting Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, whereas self-esteem was measured by utilizing Mruk two-dimensional Self-esteem scale. There was a statistically significant difference among the the three groups in resilience improvement, where the experimental group A scored the highest, and no significant difference was discovered in terms of self-eteem improvement. The results suggested that playing TBG in certain frequency significantly improves resilience among the participants.
