Purpose The present study aims to investigate the relationship between intellectual capital and the readability of financial statements with the mediating role of management characteristics of companies listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange. In other words, this research tries to find the answer to whether intellectual capital can positively affect the readability of financial statements. Design/methodology/approach A multivariate regression model was used to test the hypotheses for this purpose. The research hypotheses were tested using a sample of 1,309 observations listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange from 2012 to 2018 and a multiple regression model based on panel data and fixed-effects models. Findings The results indicate that intellectual capital has a positive and significant relationship with the readability of financial statements, which means that with increasing intellectual capital in companies, financial statements’ readability also increases. Based on the hypothesis test results, it has been determined that narcissism, accrual and real earnings management have a negative effect on the relationship between intellectual capital and the readability of financial statements. Originality/value Since the present study examines such an issue in emerging markets, it provides users, analysts and legal entities with useful information about management’s inherent and acquired characteristics that significantly impact the purchase of audit opinion. This study’s results also contribute to developing science and knowledge in this field and close the literature gap.

Every company listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange is required to submit financial reports periodically. The financial statements shall be submitted no later than the end of the third month from the end date of the financial year. In reality, not all companies submit the right reports on time because of the audit reports, so that the company's financial reporting is not effective. Delays in financial reporting are closely related to audit delays. This study aims to analyze the factors that affect the time spent in auditing financial statements. The sample in this study were 15 real estate and property industrial companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period 2013-2017. Determination of the sample in this study using the purposive sapling method. The analysis used is multiple regression analysis. The results showed that company size had no significant effect on audit delay. Meanwhile, profitability has a negative effect and the size of the public accounting firm has a significant positive effect on audit delay. The size of the company cannot determine the audit of the financial statements to improve the accuracy of the submission of financial statements. What must be paid more attention is the level of profitability and the public accounting firm that will be used.

Regression analysis is used to find out how the influence of independent variables on the dependent variable with a significance value of 5 percent. While the determination coefficient analysis is used to determine the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable. From the partial hypothesis test (T Test) that has been done by the author, it is obtained that the Loan to Deposit Ratio affects Return On Assets, Capital Adequacy Ratio has no effect on Return On Assets and Non Performing Loans has no effect on Return On Assets. This research employs a survey method with questionnaires. The population of this research consists of auditors who work in Public Accounting Firm (KAP) in Malang. Data analysis is performed with validity and reliability test, and classical assumption test whereas hypothesis test with multiple linear regression method. The researcher uses and obtains the primary data by distributing questionnaires to 33 respondents. The result concludes that independence has a partial effect on the quality audit with significant level of 2,049. Simultaneously, the independence and the experience of the auditors affect the audit qualitywith significant level of 8,645. The sample of this study is a manufacturing company from the basic industry and chemical sectors listed on S&P Global during the 2017-2019 period, with a final sample size of 225 samples. The data analysis method used is a multiple linear regression model using STATA software by testing two research models, namely model 1 (model without moderating variables) and model 2 (model with moderating variables). According to the results of the model 1 hypothesis test that has been carried out, it shows that audit opinion has an effect on audit delay, while audit tenure and profitability do not have a significant effect on audit delay. Meanwhile, the results of the model 2 hypothesis test show that the public accounting firm reputation able to moderate the relationship between audit opinion and audit delay, while the public accounting firm reputation is unable to moderate the relationship between audit tenure and profitability.
