This study investigates and summarises the results of physical measurement of the indoor environmental quality (IEQ) in hospital building wards in Plateau State, Nigeria comparing two hospital settings. The results indicate that the mean indoor air temperature in the case study hospital ward buildings exceeded the range of 23-26oC as recommended by international standards. The temperature levels in the teaching hospital ward buildings were relatively lower than what was obtained in the specialist hospital whose ward buildings lack proper ventilation. The amount of daylight requirement on an average were below 300Lux in the specialist hospital whose façade orientation and window-wall-ratio (WWR) could not allow for maximum sunlight penetration, while it was above 300Lux in the teaching hospital. However, the sound intensity level in both hospital ward buildings ranged between 52.7dBA and 71.3dBA. This study therefore recommend that, hospital building design or retrofitting should employed common strategies towards increasing ventilation and daylight with minimal energy consumption.

The purpose of this paper is to solve issues in current hospital such as complex process, large time-consumption and monotony of space design. The research in the paper introduced the principle of matrix with sections and departments as elements, streamline traffic as transmission path of signals, people seeing doctor as method of signals. Therefore, a fresh model of hospital design was made. The result of the research showed its guiding line for hospital design under the new condition. The unique feature of the research is that design innovation was made in hospital design by integrating of knowledge of different disciplines.

Based on the research theory of internal relations among various functional departments of a hospital building system, this paper firstly puts forward the new design concept of “functional zone, functional circle, and functional group”. This concept focuses on the optimization of medical functional flows and the improvement of service efficiency of a hospital building. The hospital design in Bayan Nur City is a domain in combination of new concept and hospital design, as well as desirably reflecting the feasibility and advancement of this concept. This concept is expected to get the recognition from hospital architects, and to realize this new concept will be general guidelines on hospital design in future.

Building designed has 1 to 8 floors with the quality of concrete f'c of 33.2 MPa, steel quality (fy) 400 MPa, and shear stress of 240 MPa. The building is analyzed by 3D structure modeling through ETABS Version 9.7 program by following all the rules and regulations applicable in Indonesia, such as the guidance of building structure and non-building, SNI 1726: 2012. This building design system is a high-rise building structure planned with a portal frame system with beams and columns as the main elements of structures made of conventional concrete. The beam carries the load transversely of its length and transfers the load to the vertical columns that accumulate it. The column accepts the load axially by the beam and transfers the load to the foundation. This building structure uses a special moment frame structure system (SRPMK) structure, considering that the hospital building is safe against earthquakes and complains about the strong column weak beam concept.

Research on the improvement of Indonesian seismic hazard maps has already been carried out by the National Center for Earthquake Studies in 2017. One important global data obtained from this research related with all earthquake sources mechanism which might be used for building design and evaluation. Based on this research there are two important and closest earthquake sources to Semarang, Lasem fault (strike slip mechanism) and Semarang fault (reverse mechanism). This paper presents the dynamic structural evaluations of the hospital building (approximately 49 meters height) located in Semarang, Indonesia, by conducting two seismic load functions, two-component surface spectral acceleration (X and Y directions) developed from Indonesian Seismic Code SNI:1726-2012 and three-component (North-South, East-West and Vertical) of surface acceleration time histories. All acceleration time histories were modified from three earthquake events which represents Semarang fault earthquake scenarios and developed from earthquake events with magnitude from 6.3 to 6.9 Mw and the maximum distance of building to earthquake epicentre 15 Km. Based on the floor deformation and the drift ratio results calculated using dynamic analysis, the building is predicted has the capability on resisting earthquake scenarios up to a maximum magnitude 7 Mw with minimum epicentre distance 10 Km.

The accessibility of the hospital building design in Indonesia has not been accommodated optimally. The guidelines regarding the universal design standards arranged by the government have not been implemented as a full assemble, considering hospitals are places where the patients may experience various physical conditions. Patients might need assistive aids such as canes, crutches, walkers, wheelchairs, and gurney to support their mobility, along with the helper. The existing elements of hospital buildings are supposed to be part of the accessibility standards thus the patients and their helpers could access facilities and circulations conveniently. The universal designs are vitals, especially at the Outpatient Installation. It requires comprehensive accessibility due to the various backgrounds of the outpatients. The objective is to investigate the accessibility level of patients according to the existing implementation of the universal design guidelines in the hospitals. The case study is conducted at the Instalasi Rawat Jalan zone of RSUD dr. Iskak. This research is performed by using the quantitative descriptive method while the questionnaires are analyzed by using the statistic descriptive analysis approach. The result suggested that the hospital has not implemented the universal design guidelines as a whole while most parameters are part of the accessibility standards.

A hospital is a health care institution providing patient treatment, with a complex building system. In Indonesia, there is a regulation for hospital building system set by The Republic of Indonesia’s Minister of Health arranging laws on hospital zoning plan, patient flow management, room requirement and size spesification, and structural and utilities system plan. Banyumas Dictrict Hospital is classified as type B academic hospital established in 1925. In order to develop hospital facilities and increase hospital bed capacity, Banyumas District Hospital demands area expansion and new buildings construction. This periodical development leads tol building system problems as zoning, hospital entrance and accessibility, and building flow system. Banyumas District Hospital is in need of post-occupancy-evaluation which is used as redeseign method, with the intention of restoring hospital to the regulation on hospital building by Minister of Health. Redesign result realized through the processing siteplan design, building design, and material application.
